1 interview- should i be freaking out yet?

I applied pretty early (late June) and I've only received one interveiw invite so far. My applications have been complete at most places for about a month. I'm starting to get nervous that if I was going to get interviews they should have come by now. I have pretty decent stats. Any thoughts? Anyone else in this situation?
 
I don't know. At least you have *an* interview. Which schools did you apply to?

Wow BRUIN your ego and insensitivity continues to amaze me. Some folks prefer to keep some details to themselves (or on MDApps - learn to create a freaking link).

To OP, don't worry about just 1 interview, as it depends on where you're applying. For instance, UPenn and WashU have barely given out any interviews (if any). U Washington, and some UC's haven't even begun to look at OOS applicants. Some schools take over a month and a half after secondary completion to grant interviews, and don't forget that some do so via snail mail. So, to truly calm your worries, take a look at MDApps for some of the schools you're concerned about to get a sense of timelines.

To the OP... as I have said before, do not worry. You will be fine, and in the meantime, count your blessings over your one interview, which is one more than most of us (including me) have.

Don't become a troll either, though, in terms of rubbing your success in to the rest of us.

A troll is one who intentionally instigates incidents (excuse the alliteration) in posting, whether it be subtly or overtly. For instance, a troll may be someone who brags about his grades/MCAT/EC's/etc. to try to put others down or to make others feel worse about their application than they should... or they may just make snide comments to others' posts repeatedly.. and all that...

A troll is pretty much just an unpleasant and annoying character to have around. I don't think you'll have much trouble recognizing one if you check these posts as a whole even once a week.

Sorry to be a realist you guys...

Seriously at this point interview season is well under way, I only had one maybe two interviews by this point last year and as you can see I mostly faced rejection. I'm not trying to gloat, but I think I didn't show enough interest in schools where I was borderline, so if you're not getting any love, try writing them letters, thats how I eventually got my interview at Sinai and got off the waitlist at NYMC. Good luck I'm only trying to help I know this process SUCKS

once i finished my primary, i was looking forward to a month or so off from doing this....little did i know secondaries showed up immediately. i'm hoping i have at least a few months of time to catch up on some reading (Understanding Health Policy, Lange) of both a health and fun nature. i havent had the time to read a regular ol' book for awhile. worrying wont change anything, so just relax for a bit man.

I also have only one interview, and I am.............................................................................................................................................................................freaking out too. haha
I guess we can't help but be super sensitive about this whole process.

Two bits of re-assurance:
1) "early" and "late" depend greatly on the school. Many Texas applicants have more interviews by now than we would have otherwise, just because Texas schools interview early. Without knowing where you applied, we can't say whether you're in trouble or not.

2) Your completion date may actually be later than you think. I sent everything to Chicago in mid-July, and thought they'd been blowing me off for nearly three months (ie, I could give up all hope of that school)... going through my old e-mail I found a completion notice from them dated 4 weeks ago. Maybe not great, but not as bad. I figure all the completion dates I've been thinking I had are probably slightly or wildly wrong.

Waiting sucks. Nobody can tell you what your chances are. Don't know what else to say. :luck:
 
I'm in the 1 interview boat as well.... People keep saying now that I have one I'll definitely get more, but I'm just not sure how true that is. All I can say is I'm going to make my 1 interview count!!!!

I doubt the interview process is "well under way" there's still got all of oct., nov., dec.,....
my friend last year didn't get interviews until late nov/dec (she applied to cali and NY schools), and now she's going to UCSD. 😱

It is under way alright but Its not late by no means 🙂
 
My secondaries have all been completed for exactly a month but still no word from any schools.. well, nothing positive just a couple pre-secondary rejections and a couple holds... I'm only an average applicant and I know i'm going to have a difficult time this year... am i completely screwed? Someone recently told me that they interview all the way till spring for a reason and not because they have time to kill... But i don't know, i'm totally freaking out!!!
 
Right now is still recruiting season where schools pick those who they think will want them the most and they try and sell themselves to those people as much as possible. Residents especially. So if you haven't gotten interviews, don't freak out. If you haven't heard from your state schools or residency schools in the next 3 weeks or so, then you might worry a little.

WHY DO SCHOOLS TRY TO SELL THEM TO US? I MEAN WE ARE HOPEING FOR AN ACCEPTACNE THEY DONT NEED TO DO MUCH SELLING. IM SURE IF THEY OFFERED AN ACCEPTACNE TO HARVARD NO ONE WOULD NEED SELLING!

I totally understand what you're going through.. i've waited for almost 2 months! hopefully they're right.. we will get some interviews later on in the season!

All this waiting is so scary, i think it borders on cruel and unusual punishment... :scared:

They're selling themselves to people who qualify for their school and have a high degree of actually matriculating there. I think med schools want to grab up the people who have a strong desire to go there rather than picking up people who may be qualified, but would drop them for a different school.

Any adcoms out there plz correct me if I'm wrong, but I was informed that this is still the "recruiting phase."
 
I think we will see lots of interviews in Nov/Dec.

So everyone just chill, I mean cmon we waited for our:

1.) 9 months to crawl out of the womb
2.) 18 years for high school to end
3.) SAT/ACT
4.) College acceptances
5.) MCAT
6.) AMCAS/TMDSAS to get verified
7.) Secondaries to arrive
8.) Files to be complete
9.) Anything else, like job offers, research positions, publications, etc.

You all can wait 2 months for a blasted interview
 
Basically, if you have any interviews at all, I don't think you can complain. Some applicants get ZERO interviews the entire season.

Let's be grateful for what we've got. 🙂

Yeah I was trying to figure out what this process is so much more excruciating than college and I think its because its much more drawn out and proactive.

College you do your essays, send in your forms and then mostly stop thinking about it for like 6 months until March when they send out acceptances.

This you have to do umpteen million things, remember what you like about each school individually, be prepared to take off class/work for interviews, have the money to pay for tickets when you do have interviews, etc. etc. etc.

I think I would be better off if I could just forget about it until March instead of --ooh on 10/15 I MIGHT get an acceptance. Then again I MIGHT get one on 10/16 or 10/17 or...

The rolling thing will be nice to save money once I have an acceptance and can turn down schools I'm less interested in, but otherwise it really gets on your last nerve.
 
i've still got zero interviews and in all honesty, i've gotten to the point where i'd be shocked to actually get one. I've put in my application to AACOMAS and I'm hoping DO schools might be a little more willing to look a little closer at my app. Hopefully I'll get some DO invites in November when I am complete. MD schools I don't see giving me a chance, least of all my state schools. I get the feeling they'd kill my puppy if they could.

Did you just submit your AAMCAS? Because as a non-trad with superior stats and a diverse undergraduate experience, I would think you would have been a shoe in for Harvard!

theres no place on MDApps for grad school GPA. I had some issues in grad school that it seems med schools are not willing to forgive.
 
RELAX! If you havent gotten an interview by APRIL 2007, then i say start to worry, but there is still time left so chill.👍

Nay, every cell should be in a veritable mother******* tizzy of freak out. Vestigial organs that you don't even have should be freaking out. Freak freak freak, out out out.

With only one interview at the beginning of October you might as well get used to your inevitable future career: tie your penis between your legs, head down to the docks and do a little "hustling."
