I just got the 7th edition of the Kaplan Blue Book and since I finished some physics work I've been doing I was planning on reading through it until school starts. I'm still a year away from taking the DAT though (I figure sometime around next July) so I'll probably be reading it more like a book rather than taking notes.

What I was wondering is, do you guys see any benefit in taking the practice exam in the book before starting studying? Part of me is definitely curious as to how I would score so I could later see how much the studying helped, but I seriously hate taking long tests and am thinking 5 hours of taking it wouldn't be worth settling my curiosity. Also considering it's about 1 year away I'm not sure I feel like taking it will help me since the real test isn't for so long. And that I'd be "wasting" one of the tests (although this is a smaller point since I'd be buying TopScore for more tests most likely). Mostly it's just because it would be a pain lol but like I said maybe I'm not thinking of some good benefit.

Thoughts?

Thanks

I would suggest to try to do sections of the test if you think you cant thru 5 hrs of the whole test at the moment....Just Take a sample exam from predds.net and break up the sections to see how much you need to work on..

Well it's not that I couldn't get through the 5 hours, it's more that I wondering if there is a point doing it this far out from the exam.

But yea I guess you're right in terms of just to see where I am with each section I could still give myself the alloted time and see how I'd do. I'd probably do a little better though since I'd be fresher for each section.

I think I would keep both tests within Kaplan so I could compare them better. Also it seems the most recent one on predds is 2007?

Man forget about practice tests now, especially if there from Kaplan. All you got to do now is recruit some resources for the DAT. Go out and get your hands on Cliffs AP Bio and possibly DAT Destroyer. This way when school ends in April you can immediately begin studying.
As of right now I suggest reading Kaplan "like a book" while making mental notes. Try to retain as much info without reading it critically. After you do this read over Cliffs AP Bio and make some notes and study it critically. Its a really really goods book for the DAT.

I've actually got the Cliff's AP bio from when I took AP bio in high school and I plan on buying the DAT+MATH destroyer a bit later along with some other things. I do plan on reading the KBB just like that for now.

I think the curiosity thing is getting the best of me though, I have work on the weekends but am thinking of something like 90min science section friday, 60min PAT section monday and 95min of QR and RC on tuesday. Unless others have other opinions they think would be better for me.
