I'm a fifth year senior graduating in spring '13. I will complete my degree requirements (and then some) this semester and planned to put all of my energy into an independent research course my final semester to remain eligible for NCAA athletics (I play baseball).

Do you guys think it makes sense to take a 100 level chemistry "refresher" course my final semester along with the independent research since I haven't taken gen chem in four years? I will most likely take the mcat in fall '13 or early 2014, depending on where baseball takes me and I find the time to study adequately. The course is geared towards health science students and emphasizes gen chem with a little bit of ochem and biochem.

Maybe I'm being neurotic, but my concern is that adcoms will think I'm trying to bump up my sgpa since it's a 100 level course in my fifth year (not that it really would since I have so many credits to begin with!).

What do you think, should I take it?

Honestly, I don't see how bumping up your GPA could ever be a bad thing. If adcoms are that sleezy...

But for real, I wouldn't take it. I would study EK or something on your own time. A 100 level course just doesn't look right. You never know, it could be a student teaching the class anyway...why waste the money.

I wouldn't advise it, OP. Makes the adcoms believe you're in for an easy A. I believe you already took gen chem requirements in college? If not, take it. Otherwise, don't.

seems like it's not a time efficient way to study for the mcat
