Thanks so much for the reply! Do you think my other MD schools are reasonable? I thought about U Cincinatti as well since I have ties to the area, but that feels like a hard reach with their stats. You could try Belmont too when it opens. Remove IU and Wisconsin, their OOS spots go to high stat applicants and/or those who fit a particular profile.
For DO, add:
KYCOM
PCOM
DMU
West Virginia
ACOM
VCOM
Campbell
WCU
LECOM
NYIT (both campuses)
KCOM
Awesome, sounds good. I have been in contact with some folks at UK med school admissions, I definitely thought hard about it before deciding to do ED. Thanks again!FIU also takes few OOS students and has a small class size to begin with. You could try Nova MD instead.
I would not suggest UC, especially if you will be having a later app submission. I do not know when UK will inform you by, and that impacts your chances at all other MD schools. You should meet with them now before submitting an ED application.
I am definitely planning on submitting primary early June and having secondaries (mostly) pre-written to submit them ASAP. I am starting to doubt early decision again, even though I think UK is by far my best chance 🤔Submit your secondaries as soon as possible, to increase your chances of MD. You can also add NYMC, Drexel, Temple, and Quinnipaic if you so choose for MD.
Do what chilly_md suggested to gauge your odds the best.I am definitely planning on submitting primary early June and having secondaries (mostly) pre-written to submit them ASAP. I am starting to doubt early decision again, even though I think UK is by far my best chance 🤔
Thank you again for the advice. I just sent an e-mail to admissions to ask some questions about ED. I have spoken to some folks in admissions about this before, but I figure based on your and chilly_md's advice that I should speak to admissions directly through the official e-mail.Do what chilly_md suggested to gauge your odds the best.
I think MD is a realistic option for you this cycle because of the application as you present it currently, just being early is the key between a WL and an A for you.
Yes because being forced to submit your other secondaries late, especially at schools that you are "above average stats" for, is a shame in terms of getting your chances of your foot in the door!Thank you again for the advice. Right. It's a pretty big downside. I'm hoping to have a long chat with admissions and some friends who have gone through admissions before making that final decision. I truly do prefer going to my home program and being a KY-born, trained, practicing physician is a dream of mine. But I certainly can't do that if I don't get in anywhere at all. Tough decision!Yes because being forced to submit your other secondaries late, especially at schools that you are "above average stats" for, is a shame in terms of getting your chances of your foot in the door!
Thanks so much! The director of the MS program is actually writing one of my letters (took several of her courses) and she thinks I am a good ED candidate but also thinks I could realistically get an A applying regular decision. She has mentored several people from the program and says people with worse stats have gotten admitted to UK after doing well in the MS program. She also encouraged me to meet with admissions to discuss it further, which I am scheduled to do here in a couple weeks. Also trying to schedule a meeting with Louisville admissions to go more in-depth with them about applying.Congrats on your MCAT! Great work addressing the experience deficiencies from before.
Your MMS program directors at UK should also have given you insight on your ED candidacy. What feedback did they give you? You may have an ace in the hole due to your background and upbringing which is not clear from an internet post.
