OK (I don't mean to brag) but now I'm up to 15 interviews, and I think I wasted too much on secondaries and now I have no money to fly anywhere. ITS 350 BUCKS to go from SF to Portland and back.... !

One question- Is it feasable to coordinate BU with UPitt (on one trip from the west coast?)

If I am accepted at UCSD this week or next (which is not guaranteed but possible) should I go to the following interviews:

OHSU, BU, UPitt, USC?

I think I'm just burned out on this process and I'm not trusting my judgement right now.

If you get into UCSD, do not go to BU! There'd be no point, ya know? And UCSD tuition is gotta be much nicer than USC right

Anyone want to be my pro-bono personal secretary and decision maker?

I don't mean to brag but I have a 210 IQ, is that smart enough or should I take some more Gingko?

Honestly Dr. Kevin, if cost is your concern, then just stay with the UC's schools if you get accepted to UCSD. If you like, you can still keep your app at the big-name schools like Yale or Stanford.

Oh boy....sarcascism (spelling??) 🙂

I actually am not sure if Gingko really helps. I took some Gingko starting a few weeks before MCAT but I didn't show much improvement 😛

Congrats on all the interviews Kevin. Since you already have an acceptance you need to ask yourself if you should interview at schools that you would go over UMiami.

I would say wait for the UCSD decision. After that you can reschedule if you want your other interviews.

well, once you get an acceptance you can certainly be more picky about where you go.

Yup, if you already have an acceptance triage the schools. I know tezzie did not do that he he, but now she for sure knows which schools to avoid. Like the op I received a ton of interviews but after acceptances started rolling in why go to more interviews unless you are seriosly considering those schools over the ones that accepted you?

I agree...it's just that you have to learn to let go of schools that you don't feel as enthusiastic as U of Miami

Dr Kevin,

I'm confused. After looking at your stats link, I wonder how you could have been rejected post interview from upitt and other schools that are not rolling. Is this from another application season?

Dr Kevin,

After I got my first admissions (University of Chicago), I decided to withdraw my applications and interview invitations to two schools. I didn't apply to that many school, but I am planning to complete 14 interviews (most were invites prior to October)--all six UCs (pending at Davis), USC, JHU, Yale, Columbia, WashU, Duke, University of Chicago, and Harvard (in January). I know it's an expensive process, but it's an amazing learning experience. A lot of my friends are still going on interviews despite admissions into one of their top 5 choices. I would recommend sticking to all of the interviews at schools you are seriously considering. Give the August MCAT applicants a chance for interviews too. Best of luck!

Well i had actually already bought the ticket for the USC/UCLA interviews 🙁 . As far as UCSF/Stanford though go then yes those were the ones that i still wanted to see and interview at. I love SF and both of the schools are very solid so i decided to give it a try.

Had i been smarter in the process i should have avoided all the southern schools since i already knew i didn't want to live there. Oh well.

I was not actually rejected unless I typed in rejected. Wherever it says waiting, I am still waiting... so in the post-interview rejection category, I was not actually rejected from any of those schools yet, does that make sense?

Its 2004 not 2003 but the program will not let you input 2004 yet.

Anyway, with regard to my OP, I just called UCSD and it turns out I have to wait until at least 11/24 for the decision on my file to be made. This seems like a long time considering I interviewed on 10/6. So, I plan to schedule everything else after that if I can.

have to . . . . .
try . . . to be . . .
. . nice

six uc's? am i missing something?

kevin, PLEASE don't be so paranoid. i mean come on... if you have the interview skills to get into miami outa state, i'm sure youll get into at least cornell or ucsd. do one or two more interviews only if you truly think you like those schools and would choose them over ucsd, cornell, and aecom. i mean, isn't all the traveling wearing you down? and how many times do you want to pretend you're seriously interested in a school. just save yourself the trouble and don't be paranoid about it. i know its hard, but at least you're in miami and hands down that's an incredible school despite rankings.

coachB...heheheh..you're right. There are only
5 UCs.

hey kev.

if you get into ucsd...screw all the others.

im sure you can drive to usc if you are in california at the moment.

ucsd is badass and theres no need to go elsewhere.

about corrdinating Boston and Pitt.....they're *really* far away from one another. It would take all day to drive fromone to another, and you'd probably need to fly from Pittsburgh to Boston anyway.

If you get into UCSD, you shouldn't go to another interview again. In fact, you should drop everything and just go there because that's an unbelievable school in an amazing city.

Give the August MCAT applicants a chance for interviews too.

You know, I'm sure you mean well, but this really comes across as a suggestion that without the charity of other kindly applicants, we lameass August MCATers don't stand a chance.

If you're into charity, here's a suggestion. Take the $400 that you were going to spend on your next "amazing learning experience," and give it to someone who couldn''t afford to apply to 20 schools and is going to have to borrow more money to go on every interview (me). I will write a really really nice thank-you note, and I will be very very grateful.

I went to my USC interview after being accepted to UCSD two years ago. I'm currently enrolled at Keck School of Medicine of USC. Go to the USC interview; give it a chance!

I don't know, I hear it's kinda cut throat and mean there. 🙁 Unless you like the competitive atmosphere. I went to school there for undergrad for 5 weeks and it was kinda creepy, I dropped out. I guess that's really just a subjective thing, tho, plus its a different story with med school. And it's in La Jolla, which is like retirement central. Unless the med school isn't on the main campus? I'd choose USC over UCSD because I'd think it would give you more of a real life look at medicine, you will see the worst of the worst there.

and 15 interviews? That's too cool, it must be nice to have choices. I'm holding steady with my precious 2 and I'm actually proud of myself to at least have gotten those. Good luck.

Wow 15! Congratulations. I don't have quite that many (17 schools applied) but this whole thing is starting to wear me out. I've decided to drop two New York interviews as a result. With the success you're having, go to schools you have a genuine interest in. If some schools stress you out travel-wise then skip them unless it's a school you really would like to get to know. I just came back from 3 and now I'm headed to ucsd (from florida) in 4 days. By the way...any suggestions about ucsd are greatly appreciated.
On a completely different topic: after interviews you really wish all schools were on rolling admissions, so you could know once and for all in a semi-reasonable time frame if you're in or not.
