I heard a rumor about there being 1800 U.S. applicants for this years match! Anyone know if there be truth in this here scuttlebutt?

I seriously doubt it. I mean there are only 16000 total US Med school grads. Of course the FMGs are there but I doubt over 10% of people want ER.

DonC I think last yr it was like 1100. for 1050 spots or so.

Categorical Positions: 1286
% US Seniors Matched: 93%
Unfilled Categorical/Advanced Positions: 23
Unmatched US Seniors: 70


2002 US Seniors Applying for EM: 992 (don't know 2004 #'s...but 70 unmatched seniors works out to ~1000 US Applicants)

I heard from a program director at one of my interviews that there were about 1400 applicants this year. Don't know if that's true or not...

I also heard that most programs were still interviewing the same number of people, so if people got a good number of interviews they should be in decent shape.
