Question for an active duty dentist in the Army.

I'm currently about to finish up with dental school and will be moving to Ft. Bragg, NC for my Comprehensive residency. I'm trying to figure out what my yearly pay will be and I'm getting about 20,000 different answers so I was hoping someone in the know would help me out.

I know I'm entitled to Base Pay, BAH, and BAS. My question revolves around VSP, ASP, and DASP. Are we entitled to any of these as a licensed dentist our first year out of dental school?

The way I understand it, we get VSP of $250/month and DASP of $10000 in a lump sum for our first 3 years and then our VSP gets larger. Is this correct?

Your understanding in your last sentence is correct.

ASP and DASP is the same thing. Salary will be on average around $85k/yr depending on the varying range of BAH based upon zipcode.

You will no longer get the ASP and DASP...the new CSP (Consolidated Special Pays) will be what you receive. The requirements are completion of BOLC and having a state license. It is around 20k/year paid out over 12 months. Add this to your Captain <2 years salary, BAH and BAS...and you are set..

Have fun at Bragg...the residency is awesome there...I wish I was still in it there...you will learn so much and realize how little you know now...

A great dentist once told me..."when you graduate from dental school...you will be the worst dentist you will ever be."

Dang..he was so right..
