Thank you in advance for any of your opinion or advice.
I graduate in SP2025 with a degree in PSYC. As of now my GPA is pretty low and so is my science GPA. I have not taken my MCAT yet but on practice one's I've gotten 505-512. During my 1st and 2nd year I had no idea as to what I wanted to do and my advisors recommended me to explore courses until I find what I'm passionate about. At the end of my 3rd year I decided that I wanted to give back to the community and decided to start my journey towards becoming a doctor. The first two years I did not take much of my classes seriously and received D's and C's in my science courses (Bio 1,2, Calc, and Phys 1). For context, I am 23 years old and 1st gen college student.
As I started researching more into it I realized the importance of my GPA especially for Medical School. Since then I have the following hrs: Clin Volun: 100hrs, Clin Exp at a Cardio Hosp: 3k+ hrs, Shadowing: 10hrs, on a research team: 300hrs, etc. This is around the time I decided to major in Psych and picked the pre-med route.
Past week I scheduled a meeting with my advisor and asked if I can retake all science courses from first year (Bio 1,2 and Phys 1) will that help me get my GPA up enough? The Advisor told me to look into post-bac option since retaking courses won't help my GPA much or spend a year or two trying to bring my GPA up after graduation. I've been worried and extremely stressed out since I do not know what my next step should be.
I still have a semester left and these are the courses that I have yet to take: Ochem 2 with lab, Ochem 1 lab, Phys 2, and Biochem 1. If anyone can give me their thoughts, I would greatly appreciate it. I would like guidance on what post bac programs accept applicants with my grades or if any med schools will accept any with a good MCAT score, as well as a general advice on things and hours I should improve on and what steps I need to take in order to eventually get into medical school if the MCAT doesn't go well.
