I'm about to go into my junior year with a 2.45 gpa. I was having a very hard time getting my head back into studying and I broke my old study habits because my dad passed away before I entered college. It's been extremely hard to sit down and actually study with excessive anxiety, but with therapy, my grades have been improved over this year. I went from a 1.8-2.4 and I know that's horrible, but I know I can get a 3.0. Do I have a chance to even get into a DO program? I am planning on shadowing this year and eventually going to apply to be a scribe. I know getting into an MD is practically impossible for me since I killed my grades the first two years.

According to AACOM it looks like in 2017 about 10% of the entering class had a gpa between 2.8-3.2. I suspect that number is falling each year as the competition grows.

So, I would say that it depends on how the rest of your app is. A 3.0 is low and will not be looked upon well at any school, DO or not. You will need a solid MCAT, letters, story, ECs, etc to have much of a chance IMO.

You might want to start looking into doing a Masters and maintaining a high GPA. 3.0 isn't lethal, but you will be up against almost everyone else that has a GPA >3.4

I honestly would hold back from applying to be a scribe until you can improve on your academics. Focus on improving your daily routine and study strategy before adding more to your plate.
