For the people that are experienced in using both types of magnifications 2.5x and 3.5x.

It seems like a lot of people on here are pushing for the 3.5x however after speaking with two different reps, Orascoptic and DFV, they recommend the 2.5x. They say it is all I need for general dentistry and that is what most people get. I would assume they are basing this off experience as this is their job and they talk to dentists all day.

If the 3.5x are indeed better, why wouldn't they push for me to get them especially if it meant more commission for them? 😕 I just dont understand the difference in opinion. Let me know if you have personal experience using both and what you think. Thanks!

I would venture that they want to get two sales out of you long-term rather than pushing for the more expensive one initially...
I have 2.5x, but I would definitely recommend getting 3.5x.

Easy to answer. So you have to buy two products of loupes! Can't beat the 3.5 efx from dfv. 👍

yeah it is probably the fact that I'd want to upgrade eventually and then they'd get two sales out of me.. Thanks for the feedback!

I bought some cheap 3.0x off ebay as a D1 figuring I didn't know enough about how I would want to situate patients once I got on clinic to buy the expensive custom made kind. Then I upgraded to the extra-tiny 4.5x DfVs as a D4 to take advantage of the student pricing and the fact that I knew what my working length was. Warning: if you want to use 4x or higher you will need a headlight and the ultralite style ones aren't focused enough for this purpose. I prefer a headband mounted light to keep the weight off my nose but others like the clip-on style.

2.5x is good for hygiene but pretty frustrating to try to do dentistry with IMO.

Did you go with 4.5 EF?
