Hello everyone, I will be applying to medical schools when the application opens up in 2019 for the entering class of 2020. Just wondering what are my chances if I will have near a 2.8-3.0 gpa and a solid mcat, maybe near 515. I know it would be hard to help me out due to the fact that I haven't taken the mcat but I have been practicing and I have been scoring around 515. I have limited clinical experience because I didn't enjoy the time I was volunteering at a hospital. I literally just sat there and watched other people do their job. I do know that becoming a doctor is not easy but I'm willing to dedicate myself to this wonderful profession. I am an African American male with an illness that hindered my ability to perform well as a student in my early years of college. Now that it's under control I feel as though I'm prepared for medical school. I absolutely do not want to apply to SMP's because I feel as though they are a waste of money. Thanks

If your GPA will really be below 3.0 at application, the rest of your application will have to be strong.

1. What year are you in college?
2. Grades by year - Freshman GPA? Sophomore GPA? Junior GPA?
3. If you have more years in school left, get As on everything. Use the MCAT prep time (that you have been doing)) instead to focus on your classwork to pull up your overall GPA.
4. Get some other clinical experience. You have years to do so. Find something you like. Ideas are nursing homes, hospice, low-income clinic, Planned Parenthood.
