i scheduled my test for July 11 which is exactly 2 months from today. Is this enough time to study for it? I had to make a trade off. I know it's good to apply as early as possible but I also want to do well on the test. So i thought mid July would be a good time to take it. Is it too late? Is there enough time to study?

Do you think I'll be considered for interviews in sept. and oct. and have a good chance at a Dec. 1 offer of admission? My GPA is decent (3.65 overall, 3.55+ science) and I have some pretty cool ECs.

Advice....?

I scored a 23 in 3 weeks...two months is MORE than enough

Hopefully. I think the science will be ok...just need to get some PAT practice

you'll be fine considering your GPA. i applied in May and took the DAT in late Sept. you have a better GPA than me and i still got interviews and an acceptance. 🙂

You should also consider then time you spent on writing PS, getting LORs...
These are all time consuming.
Last year I wasted my time on these craps and my DATs score didn't reach the schools until late Nov.

i studied hardcore for 2months. I was underprepared in the pat sections, though. The actual PAT is harder than kaplan makes it seem. 2months is enough if u take a course like kaplan. Good luck!

Two months for you, who knows. Well really only you know. Let me tell you why. Here is a story of me and three friends applying to dental school.

Guy #1) 3.3 gpa spent 2 weeks studying and got an 23aa

Guy #2) 3.5 gpa spent 2 months studying and got an 18aa

Guy #3) 3.4 gpa spent 2 months studying with Guy #2 and took DAT same day and got a 21aa

me I have a 3.6 and spent 10 days studying and got a 20aa

So a clear answer is, it all depends. None of the above did bad at all, actually I think we all did really good. I think an 18 is a solid score. Its all how you retain and apply the info.

One more question...if I take the DAT July 11 and do relatively well, do you think I'll have Dec. 1 acceptances?

Yes. I took mine July 2nd or so and I had acceptances on December 1st. The critical thing is to get your AADSAS application out early. In regards to study time - two months should be more than enough. Then again it all depends on how well you make use of that time. Best of luck! 👍

it also depends on how much background info you have, and when u last took courses.

Yes because your grades are considered "above average." You can probly even make an 18aa etc and still get into good schools. You are fortunate in that you will have your choice of the schools with the cheapest tuition.

Don't forget to apply to McGill because they place value on EC's and LOR's and the essay. They are looking for well-rounded students. My friend had a 3.55 and got an interview there this passed year.

if you know your sciences (like if you remember wat a redox rxn is or what oxytocin does) then i think that 2 months of GOOD studying is okay...

if ur not too confident about the sciences then i dont suggest taking it in 2 months.

i studied like 2 months for it while taking a summer school course and i got a 22aa and 24sci......i knew my sciences pretty well though and i need to brush up...

yes PAT is alot harder than kaplan has it and you should def get some harder material.

what do you guys think the latest date we should consider writing DAT?

this is by far the best post I have ever seenl I feel like it all depends in the real world. I'm so jealous of guy #1, he mustve been SLY.

I think I'd rather have a 3.6 and a 20 DAT...I could be wrong though

Looks like it wasn't long! Shucks, guess I just lost a friend. That means I'm back down to 1 (if turtles count)

On the topic, I agree with the last post. If you did well on your science tests with minimal studying you'll probably do the same on the DAT - but if you had to spend several days studying for each chemistry test then you should plan on at least a couple months.
