On my supplemental app, a 2x2 picture is required. What should I wear in the picture? What part of my body should I show, like chest up, waist up? Also I need a good "professional" background idea. Thanks

It's a passport-style photo so it's shoulders up. I just went to CVS and paid $7 for 2. Since they can't really see much below your neck, I just wore a nice shirt.

i just went to CVS and had them do a passport photo for me. if you go to cvs.com, they have a coupon for $2 bucks off, so it was $7.99. a ripoff, i know. but i was too lazy to take a nice picture myself. if you want, have someone take a picture of you with a digital camera and upload it at your local pharmacy and print. have them be close enough so that it is similar to a passport photo. a neutral background works. just wear a decent solid color sweater or something conservative so you won't be judged for any reason. try and look friendly. make sure your hair looks decent too--people judge on appearances!

Try not to over think it. As long as your face is visible you should be good. Take any picture and cut a 2 x 2 piece out of it. That's what I did

Took my own photos against a white wall, cropped to a square ratio, printed four of them to a 4x6 photo at a drugstore for a few cents each sheet, cut off the white borders to size. Easy-peasy.

Just curious, is there any other place I can get those photos cheaper? Please help me. I have about 20 schools to send that stuff too, and I don't enough money for the schools applications as is.

Crop a facebook picture of yourself and use the CVS photo machine. It's only a few cents per picture, easy!

I applied to 11 schools and only 3 of them needed a picture...

Wear a suit and tie, go to Sears and get your picture taken in their studio. Pay the extra 15$ or so for minor touch ups, and choose the background you like the most out of all the photos they take of you. The total cost will probably be somewhere between 50-100$.

Looks matter, don't look like a scrub and don't use a tacky passport photo. Look professional with a nice portrait taken by a photographer. Patients should want to look at your photo and say, "Wow, I want this guy working on my teeth." My honest opinion.

Also, you shouldn't be worried about cost for this. Do whatever it takes in order to obtain the money for this.

100$ for some great looking photos of you is nothing in the grand scheme of things. You are about to go to dental school and be in at least 200,000$ in debt when you get out, if not more. 100$ is a drop in the bucket, and the photo I believe can make or break you. Looks and professionalism do matter.

That might be a little over-the-top. Let's keep in mind the whole purpose of this 2x2 picture in the first place. They're not sizing you up for a plaque on the wall in the lobby of an office. When it comes time to reference the picture it has nothing to do with who is more attractive. Lecture me all you want on how we naturally react more positively to more attractive people. I'll chat all day about marketing and consumer behavior if you want. But that's just not a significant factor in this given scenario.

It better look like you do on interview day or it defeats the whole purpose. If you're going to comb your hair and wear glasses on interview day, maybe you should in your picture. Don't over-do it. Don't under-do it. This whole process is important, but over-thinking stuff is going to turn you into a spaz on interview day.

Shoo...now I'll stress out about my photos, too. I took them myself, print it out on regular paper and glued it on my app. :bang:

I did wear a nice top and smiled...partial credit?

I just plucked my graduation pictures off of facebook. I was already dressed up and my hair looked alright. I printed them off and ka-bam, mailed them out!

I took my photo with my digital camera, cropped it to the correct 2x2 size, adjusted the brightness/contrast, fitted three of them side by side, went to CVS and printed it out to a 4x6 photo for 99 cents, effectively costing me 33 cents plus tax for each of my three schools that required a photo.

Can you beat that?

something like this would be nice.... it shows your individuality

I was planning on going for the Anthony Weiner look.

This is WAY overkill. Look professional in your photo, but don't spend this kind of money for a silly 2x2 photo.

Two of the schools that received my 2x2 photo made from the CVS photo machine gave me interviews. I don't think they care. In fact, the picture wasn't even 2x2...
