So I will be transferring to a UC this fall, but plan to apply the end of my junior year. I will still be doing 4 years of undergrad, but dental schools don't really take into account senior year grades. My question is, will 2 semesters (3 quarters) of coursework at the 4 year be able to convince dental schools that I can handle the rigor? I will be taking Ochem 1 and 2 at the UC my junior year, and maybe one or two upper div science courses. I will also be taking the DAT junior year.

Would it be best to wait until the end of 4th year to apply and take a gap year, or go ahead and apply 3rd year and hope the 2 semesters will be enough to convince them? (If I do well)

I know a girl that transferred to my university from cc and applied as a 3 year. Her gpa from cc was 4.0 and she got an interview and acceptance after she did get academic update for her fall grades. You will have to have a very competitive application though

Competitiveness is a function of the (quality of coursework) , gpa and dat scores. A little early to be counting your chickens.

Would this not be the typical path for anyone who went to CC and does not wish to do a gap year?

My GPA from CC is likely to be 3.5.
Damn, do you know what her GPA was when she applied?

I think I misunderstood your post at first and was thinking you wanted to apply the summer going into your transfer to university, entering into the next fall class of dental school with only 3 total years of undergrad. This is what the girl I was referring to do and she had all As her year and university before she attended dental school. If your planning on transferring to university and just doing two more years for a bachelor's and applying your senior year, it's not that big of a deal, actually more common than you might think. I got my associates before transferring to a university and even drug out three years at university just to have a more laid back experience. Just keep your grades up and you'll be fine.
