2 years till I apply..need advice

Hi SDN,

Im laying out a plan for myself for the next two years. Im a Texas resident and Im about to finish my second year in college. For Med school id love to stay in Texas. I lack EC's because the first I spent focusing on my GPA which is looking great as of now (3.84). I have a great grasp of the material and I feel I wont have a problem getting 32-34 on the MCAT.

I am going to start volunteering at a hospital this summer, and I am also going to try and get some shadowing under my belt. I recently also got the job of an R.A on the campus.

What other EC's would you suggest?

Research, ideally a year, but at least a semester's worth. Plan on two years if you aspire to Baylor or UTSW.

Continue with clinical volunteering during the school year too, as 1.5 year and 150 hours seems about average. Aim for 60-80 hours of shadowing, split among a few types of doc, of which at least one is primary care.

Leadership and teaching/tutoring/TAing gigs are good to have.

Nonmedical/noncampus community service is nice to see as well, even if only for two hours weekly.
