I just received my copy of a 20 year old transcript and found 2 F's on it. I thought I had withdrawn the courses and now they are on my transcript -- how bad is this?

It was 20 years ago...what matters is what you have done in the last couple years and your recent grades/scores. I think you should be fine 🙂

I'm still sweating...I had gotten pregnant my fresh year at college, moved home with my parents, registered for classes, started them, quit them (thought they were W's, apparently not) moved back with baby's dad, just not good judgement times in my life. I eventually got married to a wonderful man (not daughters dad, he was bad news) went to hygiene school and was on the dean's list for the last year there...got my hygiene degree.

Honestly, if anything they should see that those grades were in the past and that you have dedicated your life to the dental profession. You have a hygiene degree and everything in life is a learning experience. I'm sure they will overlook it. As long as you have your recent grades showing that are A's and B's, you shouldn't even worry about it. Make sure everything else in your application is stellar and hopefully you get into your dream school 🙂

Most important will be your overall/science/BCP and especially your last 2-3 years.

I have an F on my transcript from 2005, my freshman year of highschool. Took a college class and thought I was dropped...guessed wrong. Talk to the admissions office of the school, they usually have an academic forgiveness policy-if you have taken more than 70credits elsewhere they'll forgive the class, and change the units to zero so it doesn't count against your GPA. I called AADSAS and confirmed. No way to remove from the transcript, but it's the next best thing

I'll try that. This was from 1995, 2 classes. Kinda bummed me out. Also the same school called not starting classes a W, so I have like 6 W because I registeres fro classes in1992 and never started them, it says on the transcript that they withdrew me on 1/12/1992, which would indicate that I never started the classes (I had just had a baby)

Just called the registrar, talked with his secretary, explained the situation, and he is at a conference. She said to call back on Wed at 10:30 to explain the situation with him. I was planning on submitting my app today (finally was able to get everything done for it) should I wait until Wed? I had already had the transcript sent to AADSAS b/c I did not know this stuff was on it.

As long as when they calculate you GPA is over 3.o you should be fine!! Because those F's you have will be calculated into your final GPA 🙁

I had an F from five years ago and I got in. Also a hygienist.

Well, I contacted the registrar. There's nothing they can do about the F's (only if I take 12.5 credit hours at their college and maintain a 2.5 GPA) but they are looking into taking the W's off.

That's great news! Hopefully they take off the F's. You should be fine nonetheless. As long as they see that you have been focused on your classes, only the last couple years of your academic career should be taken into account!!

They said they will not remove the f's. That brings my gpa down to a 2.995 with them there. I'm screwed. Gonna go cry now.

When you say your GPA is '2.995 with them there' do you mean just at that particular school? What is your overall GPA when you combine all of your undergrad? That's the number you should be concerned with. I was in a similar situation, dropped out of a military academy 20 years ago and received 2 F's, 6 W's. My GPA on that transcript is a big fat 0.0, but I'm going to dental school.

Just calculated my GPA and it's 2.975 overall, with 3.168 science.
