That is an impressive match list. 👍

It is pretty good, huh? Initially I was bummed at having to go to a school with a not-so-good reputation, but the match is somewhat redeeming.

Wow, I know what you mean. I actually turned down an acceptance here because of the "reputation" and the tuition $$$. I would have never guessed the match list would ever be this strong. Chicago Med is starting to make some noise in Illinois.

Furthermore, this match list is stronger than any of the match lists I have seen from the medical schools in Indiana, Tennessee, or Kentucky!

Our curriculum is pretty rough and tests are NOT easy to pass. We learn so much physiology, neuroscience, pharm, and path that when boards come around, some people find it a piece of cake. I'm not kidding. You also have to understand that most of CMS are gunners...or serious geniuses...all my friends are Einsteins and I'm the only normal, anti-gunner one...

Oh crap! Now people are gonna figure out who I am! AHH! 😱

Heyyy! A chick from our school matched into neurosurgery at Brown...whoooaaaa! ROCK ON!!! 😀

can someone explain why the RFUs match list is so nice..filled with superstars...this is def. surprising as I wasn't expecting with looking at their avg gpa/mcat... also is this match list an anomaly or does it follow suit every year...

It's pretty much like this every year. Here's 2004:

http://66.99.255.20/students/class/2004/matchlist.htm

There're a few reasons as to why I think the match is so good. First, there's A-F grading here. I don't care what anybody says, there's a world of difference between students' attitudes in a P/F system vs A-F. We just finished exams, and more often than once I've told myself that if I were after the B, or merely passing the class with a C, then I'd have been done studying weeks ago. If this school were P/F then I know I'd stop studying as soon as I was sure of the Pass.

Secondly, we've got an intense second year curriculum. And the second year faculty is good. Arthur Schneider, who wrote the BRS Pathology book, is the head of the Path department. So students end up very well versed in Pathology. And Step 1 loaded with it. Our Step 1 scores are well above national average.

And thirdly, I think the students here feel a need to redeem themselves. At least, I can say that from personal experience. I didn't rock college like I know I could have, and I barely got in to med school. I feel like I need to make up for the fact that I go to a 'safety school.' I'm sure not everyone feels this way, but I certainly do.

Anyway, I'll try and dig up past match lists and post them on this thread as I find them.

Wow.

This is better than a lot of state schools.

RFU is really making some noise!

Yes its great matchlist. Many students at this school are from CA and all over the country so they are open to seeking out residencies in varied geographic locations which is big plus in residency application.Students at state med schools are from the local area and generally want to stay close to home which may limit residency options.I'm sure the education at this school is very good.It goes to show how pointless the medical applicant obsession with going to "ranked" or prestige med school is. In most cases how you do where you go will count for more than where you go.

If anything proves that US News is BS, it's this.

ITA.

RFU just moved to number 3 on my list right after Jefferson and Mayo.

I'd heard for YEARs how great the instructors were during M1 and M2.

This list just proves it.

If RFU had a bigger endowment and its own hospital, it would shut a lot of people up.

In ten years I predict it will be a top 20 school...

Slow down big fella... For those who are interested I am currently an M4 and this years list will be at least as impressive...

We should have a handful of NeuroSurg about 5-7 Ophtho, 2-3 Derm, 1-2 Plastics combined, and of course our standard 20 or so into EM. Also a decent number into Rads although I must admit I dont know of anyone interested in Rad Onc.

I dont know about the classes behind me but there arent a ton of gunners in my class, although there are some, I imagine like other med schools. Most impressive from last yr was matching ENT at Yale, screw neurosurg at Brown.. Freaking ENT at YALE 😱

One other thing 3 or 4 yrs ago one of the students had the top Step 1 score in the country.. Overall our Step 1 average is above the national Allopathic average.

what was the highest score in the country?

Yeah someone was telling me about that in the CMS library the other day. Didn't he get like a 276 or something crazy like that?

Oh crap! Now everyone at my school is gonna figure out who I am! 😱 😱 😱

Well maybe I jumped the gun a bit, but I still think RFU deserves more respect.

😛

so the question is how much financial aid do you guys get at Rosalind, cuz the school is so dam expensive, is it worth it to go there?

It's all taken care of. I have enough money to live comfortably. Even my pet betta fighter fish are happy and not flaring at me anymore. Oh man, now people are really gonna figure out who I am :scared:

yea its true, I think someone got the one got one of the higest scores last year... but the scores overall are well above average.

The school is great... there is some financial aid... but yeah way more expensive compared to state schools or Canadian schools 😉 . Nevertheless, there are also many schools that are MORE expensive....

Bottom line... glad I picked this school! CMS is very good!

Hey, that's not nice, why are people so mean? what do you have against another human being that would make you hate someone so much?!? Why can't we all get along....... sigh........

so on a more focused note: is Rosalind Franklin more lecture based... do you spend a lot of time in class or do you read independently ... do they require attendance, as I am usually better at teachings things to myself... they hearing from someone else.

on a side note: why did you pick the avatar that you did FireBody

How is the location that RFU is in? Nice? Lots to do? Clean?

Hi,

RFUMS is in North Chicago, not a bad location, but you really need a car to do anything like grocery shopping etc... but the actual campus is pretty safe and the security really good. As for the lectures, attendance isn't required, exept for small lab group work like Anatomy or Intro to Clin Med. Alot of independent studying is req'd especially if you are to do well on exams/tests.

I'm pretty happy at the school and am glad I chose it 🙂

feel free to ask any more questions

I love you too sweetheart 😍

Nah, firebody's just cranky cuz I turned him down last night. That's because he's not any good at giving 😛

Hey Firebody: are you hot 😀 cuz you insulting me is just making me hornay babay...

If you want the truth, RFUMS is in sort of a deserted area, in between a posh place and the ghetto. You need a car to pretty much do anything. But honestly, medical school is really what you make of it. I have a positive attitude, so I've had a good time at CMS. And because Firebody hates me so much, and I've told the world where I go, and that I have 2 betta fighter fish that are mad because I haven't fed them, here goes: oh crap! Now everyone is really gonna figure out who I am 😱 😱

Salami boy! You're back!

P.S. Ladies, he called me something else last night 😉

Are any of you going to this all chicago med student social? I just got an email within the last day about it. Free drinks and no cover... sounds interesting at least...

I went last year and got hit on by psychos. One told me he had problems with his brain. I asked him if he was a medical student, and he said no, which is good because he was obviously a ***** with issues. I then told him I was one, somehow he seemed to think I was a doctor already. He then informed me he had penis problems and if I'd take a look 😱 Needless to say, he didn't score with me that night.

Did u give him a hand with his "penis problems"? 😕

I would if I had a blindfold on to cover up his foul face and a gas mask on to cover up his foul B.O.
