Has anyone heard anything lately about Cincinnati or their waitlist?

i just gave up my spot today- hope it helps you! good luck! 🙂

nope... kskuwik, did you send a letter of intent? I'm wondering if it's too late to send one in. Also, what did you like about Cincy that makes you really want to go? I was only there for one day because my flight was delayed pretty badly the previous afternoon. I didn't get to see very much of it. 🙁

Lemme know if you hear anything~ Good luck! :luck:

I sent a letter of intent in April and have sent two updates since then. So hopefully that has had a positive influence on their decision.

I liked Cincy because they seem to be moving in a good direction with construction of the new building, increased research funds, and they have been moving up in the US News rankings the past couple of years. Also, the students I talked to seemed really nice and I also liked the way the curriculum was put together. So I definitely want to go there. Hopefully the waitlist will get moving shortly so we can get in.

Also, where are you on the waitlist?

Hi there,

Thanks for the quick response! 🙂

Do you actually know your position on the waitlist? I called them at the beginning of May, and the lady refused to tell me my position. Is it because they haven't decided the positions back then? Or are they just not allowed to disclose this information? If you know, do you mind sharing how you found out? I would very much like to know where I stand, so I can better prepare for my life 2 months from now. Thanks! 😉

I haven't heard anything regarding the waitlist other that I am on it. I have sent one update to them a few weeks ago. The weird thing is that just the other day I got this huge letter in the mail from them which turned out to be financial aid info, when I haven't received an acceptance offer from them as of yet. Good luck to everybody in our position

I was sent an email and a letter that said I was in a "special group" at the top of the waitlist and was rated for an acceptance as soon as an opening in the class occurs. I'm not sure how many people received that letter though. I also received that big financial aid info package. From other posts I've read, I think everyone on the waitlist received that package.

Yeah, I got both the financial aid package and the letter saying that I'm in a "special group," too. I was a bit surprised that the lady told me that we are not ranked when I called, and I was pretty confused about how they are going to decide which person to take off the waitlist. Anyone has a clue?

I was looking for this thread after I posted but someone beat me to it.

I have to call them back tomorrow for more information and I'll decide by friday.

Congrats on the acceptance. When did they call you? I was just curious because I have been waiting for my phone to ring since May 15!

Hey congratulations! That's great! 👍

But would you be going to Ohio State or Cincy? Also, did you know your waitlist position prior to being admitted?

Thanks for answering the questions in advance~

they called in the early afternoon. Right now I am leaning towards Ohio state but I have another complication where another school has offered a full scholarship.

also i did not know my waitlist position

Hey Guys,

I go to OSU and am on the UC waitlist. I really hope I get in there, it was my favorite school I interviewed at. Its driving me bonkers, I really hope I get the call...

I replied to their e-mail to put me on the waitlist the same day. They said I was in the "special group" but I don't know where on the list. I got the financial aid info, but haven't sent it in. I think I will send it in today. I sent them my transcripts to update my information. Should I also send them a letter of intent or sit on my hands and wait?

Also, how are you guys deciding between two schools, Its klling me, I have 5 days and am losing my mind! I have to decide between Wright State and NYMC. I know the choice seems obvious, but NY is so far away, and the people don't seem as warm as the typical mid-westerners...

I was wondering the same thing. Is it too late to send an update letter/letter of interest?

I'm also waiting on OSU and the CCLCM (although it's doubtful since their class is full.)

I've been doing some calculations and according to US news, cincy has an acceptance rate of 17.4%. With about 4000 applications that means 696 students were offered an acceptance. Having a class size of about 155, would suggest that a lot of students are pulled from the waitlist. I guess that's why they never officially reject anyone post interview because they potentially could accept everyone who interviewed (about 700).

I'm just trying to make myself feel better while I wait for what seems like an eternity to know if I'll be going to med school 3 months from now.

I'm from Cincy, and just went down to see if I could get some info from the admissions office. Got 0 info.

from what i know Cincinnati publishes an 11% acceptance rate, 700 interviews, and 350 acceptances for about 160 spots. 17.4% seems too high. i know schools like wright and mco publish around 8-9% acceptance rates. i hope 17% is correct, so that i can get in.

actually, i think i got my numbers off an old MSAR. i'll have to look at that again. i dont think us news is getting their numbers out of thin air...

overall numbers are great, but i'd like to know how many people on the waitlist and how many people are accepted from the waitlist....that's the only acceptance rate i'm concerned with.

you're right... i tried asking and they wouldn't tell me.

I am new to this so I have to ask a couple of dumb questions. What is the "special group"? I have a letter that states merely "very much interested" in. If you have better great for each of you. If not please let me know. In so far as knowing your position on the list if you call, not a chance. I have ties with the U and trust me no info is getting out. Even last years info is tight. The letter of interest is different to me. I merely wrote a TY note to Wexler, Fooks, my interviewer, and let them know that (honestly) UC was my first choice. I stated as much in the email that placed me on the alternate list. Best of luck to all. Hope to hear a reply.

I just called the admissions office, and it is true that they don't give out ANY numbers. Not only do they not give out your position on the waitlist, but also they don't let anyone know the size of the entire list. I also asked them about being in a "special group." The lady said that if the letter says so, then we are really in a special group. 😕 What's a little bit more comforting is that she said not everyone received that letter. (Even though I've not heard anyone say that s/he received a different letter....)

I hope they accept a lot more people off the waitlist. I find it kind of odd though that only one sdn person has been accepted to cincy off the waitlist when there were quite a few of us in the "special group". I just hope my phone rings soon! Today sucked because I had so many calls but no cincy!

*pat pat* I'm sure that more people will start to receive phone calls from Cincy sooner or later. After 17.x% is a pretty high number for acceptance. Even though I'm not sure where US News got that figure, it shouldn't be THAT far off from what really happened last year.

Kskuwik, are you accepted anywhere else?

This wait is just killing me. UC is my VERY first choice. I might drop Wright State to go to NYMC, I have to decide by monday.

But if UC gave me the call I'd be there in a hearbeat!

I read through past threads about the cincy waitlist (for 2003 and 2004). It seems like two letters were sent out; one saying "special group/top of alternate list" and the other saying "we remain very interested". It also seemed like the special group was numbered around 50 students. I wasn't able to find out whether or not all the special group people were taken from the waitlistfrom these past threads.

But back to my original question...is it too late for an update to cincy? Also who should this letter be addressed to? Admissions committee?

I dont think it could hurt to send an update to cincy this late in the cycle. I sent one about a week ago and addressed it to the admissions committee.

No I haven't been accpeted anywhere yet. I am on three waitlists which is driving me crazy. So hopefully I hear somethings soon.

I'm going bonkers guys...every time my phone rings I get all excited. First it was the doctor, then work, then a friend. I'm just looking fora 513 # on caller ID...

Haha~ I think we are all in the same boat here. *SIGH* I'm also on QUITE A FEW waitlists before receiving my first acceptance. But out of all the schools, waitlisted or accepted, I'm most interested in Cincy (otherwise I won't be having this chat with y'all great people 😉 )

To Nina: Thanks for the great info on past waitlists! That's actually more helpful than calling the admissions, since they sealed their mouths on this matter.

To Kskwic: Don't lose hope yet. The waitlist will be moving for the next 2.5 months. :luck: It really sux to have to wait though.

Based on the other threads, it seems like schools are still trying to determine the number of students they already have. I'm trying to stay calm, since I don't have any acceptances yet and am on 3 waitlists. My only desire for med school was to stay in Ohio.

Looks like we're all in it for the long haul 😳

so you're saying schools are still waiting for snail mail of accepted applicants to say yay or nay? i guess that's the case. is the majority of movement in may? or later? i'm also on three waitlists without an acceptance. i've started to pursue my backup plans but those aren't guaranteed either. when should i start really getting worried??

Bumping from page 7... 😉

I too am on 3 waitlists with no acceptances. I anticipate a lot of movement in early june.

Hopefully I'll know soon so I don't have to register for the MCAT and AMCAS again (my MCAT expired this year!)

I spoke to the admissions office at UC today. Movement is apparently slow right now. The list is set and you can't move up or down, since the AdCom won't meet until the next cycle. I sent an update letter, and was thinking of having a couple of recommendations sent... but it sounds like it won't make any difference. I've always heard that writing letters, sending recs, etc while on the waitlist is a good thing... but it seems like it would be a waste of time since the list is set. Do you guys agree?

Did they mention when they meet next or do you know offhand? Also, when you say the list is set does that mean that the # of people on the list is set or that the position of people is set?

She said they'll meet again in the Fall, which I think means for next year. I think your position on the list is set. They call people in the order of the list. I asked if they get deep into the list... Some years they do some years they don't.

Hmmmmm, if the position of people is set...that could be a good thing or bad thing.

I guess I'll send my update anyway. WHether it matter or not, at least I'll know I tried.

I dropped my letter today also. It seems that other schools and advisors encourage updates, etc. I hope they look at them... although I was told that I couldn't move up or down on the list. They told me at UC that the list is ranked.

thanks a lot for the info- hopefully there will be some significant movement soon and all of us will get in- all of that "special group at the top of the list" stuff better not have been smoke up our collective ass

I agree... has anybody managed to get their rank # on the waitlist? I've had no success whatsoever...

nope...the lady wouldn't tell me anything when i called last week. is the majority of waitlist movement supposed to happen in june??

I hope so... it seems that past years, phone calls have come early AM on a Thursday - I don't know if they'll keep up that pattern. This waiting is beginning to suck; if I don't get in by June 30th, I'm going to the school I'm holding a spot at (MCO), even though Cincy is my absolute top choice. =P

On another note... has anybody from out-of-state gotten off the waitlist yet? Or know of anyone that's gotten in from out-of-state?

I am at the Univ. of Kentucky (also a KY resident) and got accepted in October or November (can't remember which).

Also, I just (literally an hour ago) got accepted at Ohio State from the waitlist and am going to withdraw from UC tomorrow morning. I hope one of you gets my spot 🙂 Best of luck.

someone should be getting a call soon as i declined their offer today
Best wishes for everyone's success!

BUMP!

Any news??

not really. i called today, i got the machine, left a message, they haven't called back.

they called back. told me movement has been slow...bah.

Argh... that sucks! I thought Cincy had high turnover to Case and OSU? Both those waitlists are steadily moving... I hope Cincy is following shortly behind...

Has anyone else on SDN received an acceptance off the waitlist? I just don't understand how there is a ton of "special group" people on SDN and only one person has been accepted off the waitlist. I really wish Cincy would give me a call.
