I'd like to see participants in this thread put (C) or (A) next to the program so we know where you are ranking the 4-year or 3-year (respectively) program. I know this doesn't count for most of the NYC programs (as they are advance track anyway), but it'd still be nice to see. My suspicion is that most folks are going to rank the advanced programs ahead of the categoricals so they can get a cushy transitional year or prelim year somewhere else anyway.

Advanced = you find your own prelim or PGY-1 spot separately from the anesthesia program and match for a 3 year CLinical Anesthesia spot beginning as a (CA-1) when you are actually a PGY2.

Catagorical= you match into a 4 year anesthesia program that has the intern year built in, which can vary based on the program, but still usually includes some medince wards, surgery wards, ICU, and a mixture of other things, usually no more than 1 month anesthesia if any. You match into this program as a PGY1, but still usually don't actually start actually doing anestheisa until your PGY-2 or CA-1 year.

Hope that helps....

Forgive me for being ignorant on this, for Adv. track will programs accept a transitional year vs. prelim year. If one is not able to secure either of those then what is the alternative. Thanks.
