It's only right... if we're gonna list our interview offers, we might as well list the rejections too...

I'll start: Georgetown today.

already??!!! NO! WTF? that is SO rude.

sorry to hear about it

It gets even more rude when you get multiple rejections from the same program, and you get emails from all over the world because some program's office has Outlook infected with a virus.

It's incredible how much of this process is seat-of-the-pants, shoestring sort of stuff.

Not yet. I'll be getting my fair share of them eventually, considering the number of programs I applied to 🙄

Oh Lord. I had this happen when I applied to med school...I got rejected from the same program 3 times, once before they interviewed me, then they sent me a "Oh, our bad! Please come interview!" letter, and then 2 more rejections after my interview. I guess they just thought I was so stupid I didn't get it that no means no the first time...

I haven't heard many people talk about rejections over the last year I've been following SDN. So are we supposed to get an interview or rejection from every program we apply to? I thought that was how med school apps were supposed to be like but I remember not hearing from a few.

Anyway, sorry you've already recieved a rejection. You might want to call and make sure there's nothing wrong with your application. That way you can maybe fix whatever it is before it happens again.

For whatever reason, some programs will not send you a rejection (I'm still wondering if I will interview at UVA). Good luck everyone!

On a tangent, but still...

My senior year in college, the school pub ran a promotion where you brought your rejection letters in and they gave you a free beer for each letter (limit 2).

When applying for med school I actually had the guts to try for Harvard Med. I knew I wouldn't get in, but my mom wanted me to apply and she gave me the money for the fee. So I apply and I wait for my rejection letter. 'Cause I want my beer, damn it! About a month after getting all the interviews I was gonna get, I still hadn't heard from Harvard.

I called Harvard.

They had an answering machine message stating, "If you haven't gotten an interview by now, we appreciate your application but an interview will not be forthcoming." Or somesuch.

I was this close to sending a self addressed stamped envelope to Harvard so I could get my freaking beer.

But I got enough rejection letters to meet my limit at the pub, so I didn't. I still thought that the answering machine message rejection is particularly harsh.

I wont name the program but they sent me TWO invitations to interview.. then i told them thanks but no thanks... Then they sent me 2 rejection letters.. LOL.. I checked i only listed them once...

Well are you sure you're objective on this? . . .Sorry!😀

Seriously, when you've got several hundred of these things to keep track of, even with the electronic application process, it's not impossible to lose track of one.

Happily, I think I've always caught my goofs. But I'm really interested in never ignoring an applicant. So. . .if you think I've messed up, and you care, e-mail or PM me.

I got rejected three times by one institution. The first time I was like Ok, maybe its just not in my future, the second I was like ok, i can understand mistakes happen. The third time I was just like, Ok, I reallllllly understand that you hated my application. Was about to send a letter asking if they will review my application once more.

lol.. so the rejections should appear in the ERAS messages? maybe I don't have enuff megabytes in my ERAS account to receive messages.. how..come.. i .. have NO MESSAGES ?+pissed+

I think it should be mandatory for programs to send rejection notices through ERAS once they've rejected an applicant. When applying 2 years ago, I wouldn't hear anything from a program for months, then I'd call and they'd say "you've been rejected". It would be common courtesy for them all to provide rejection notices, since the applicants have taken the time (and money) to apply to their programs.

For me it was about 60/40 in terms of notice/no notice.

Bro I'm still waiting to hear if Hopkins will offer me an interview for residency.

Q

I personally am still hoping to hear any day now about my pending application with Tiny Tots Preschool.

No BKN not you. A different program. For whatever reason TT wasnt a place I applied. It did not fit into the complex formula me and my wife used. There wasnt a job for her within 100 miles of El Paso.

Now THAT'S funny!

"I applied to over 100 places - and you weren't one of them!"

If there's one thing you can't do about EM, is use a "cookie cutter" approach to who does it. That's kind of funny, because that parallels the chief complaint distribution, roughly - 50% trauma of any sort (and subdivide that down), chest pain, abdominal pain - and then the "everything else". That British decision tree is spot-on.

No, I knew that. I was just teasing you in the first paragraph and talking to anybody applying this year in the next two.

BTW, I stayed in your town on a trip in July. Temp was 110 when I came out of the hotel at 9 am. Made El Paso look good.😉

Ask 3 class mates, if they all roll their eyes or say "..uh-h", it's psych or em for you.

+pad+ Wait a minute, "F***cking crazy" and "crazy" aren't really the same thing! I've never been just called "crazy" before... 😎

Say, BKN, do you automatically REJECT all SDNers??? I didn't see you giving any promises of follow up on the interview thread. :meanie:

If I was him, I'd reject all of us too.

Of course not, if I didn't embrace the crazies I wouldn't have any residents.😀

Uh. . .remember, I picked EM when it wasn't even a specialty and there was no guarantee that it ever would be. :wow: You can imagine what my friends said about me.

but right now it is insanely nice. the weather here is perfect right now. I cant wait for things to normalize here (with my life) so i can enjoy the weather a bit more.

definitely true, generally after being with someone for about an hour I let some 'crazy' comment slip. But people generally like me, at least I think....

Haha! This reminds me of the Scrubs episode where Elliot talks about "hiding her crazy" in the early stage of a relationship.

Tee hee, so true! But then you end up with boring people. Fortunately it turned out my husband was also hiding HIS crazy, so we hit it off!

Any Day now (crossed fingers- baited breath) I am expecting to hear from U of Chicago and ECU.

Don't sweat it, if I can land a residency than any other angler sure as heck can. Good luck on the trail, and good luck.

Interviews will trickle in and then come in a flood the first week of November, just be wise about scheduling, and research the program before just applying to geograhic areas, as when I showed up to a certian new program I immediately thought "oh crap I just wasted a lot of money." And they didn't even serve us a good lunch, a party sub left over from an office party - high class!

Best Wishes

The Mish

Anyone call and ask why they were rejected?

but i guess it cant hurt. I did that at one place and they didnt give an answer.

Way back when, I did. The program director re-reviewed my application, and told me, "I stand by my decision".

Straight-up answer. I respect that.

But WHY? Just not thrilling enough?

The Boston Children's pedi EM rejection letter arrived with the mail yesterday.

It was the suck. 🙁

i have a feeling king/drew will be sending a rejection my way soon

FMG with ****ty numbers.

I'm much more thrilling in person (really - I used to "look good on paper", but, as that kind of went away, I didn't learn how to 'buff' the paper, and the money was in me in person).

Aw, poor you - well, things turned out alright, didn't they? I was just wondering because it seems like people that matched at great places were nevertheless rejected by others. I suppose alot of the difference is in how many people a program would like to interview for X amount of slots. Wouldn't think most would like a program that was too shallow, anyway. Thanks for sharing! 👍

Bummer about the rejections peeps. I haven't even put my app in yet, you're all making me feel way behind the game. Gotta get going on those rejections. I know.....I will apply to a ton of programs, really crappy ones too, then I can just reject them when they offer me an interview. Maybe I'll send 3 or 4 letters, just so they know how much they suck! Too bad I'm too broke to apply anywhere else. Have they been sending letters or emails for rejections? Good luck.

The good thing about applying to alot of programs is that the program to reject you may be a program you didn't care too much about, anyway. I just got rejected from Leigh Valley Hospital transitional year and when I read the email I was like, what's Leigh Valley Hospital, did I even apply there... I checked my eras and yes, I did apply there. It's in Pennsylvania. Oh well.

Serious question: will be get rejections/interview invites via ERAS, e-mail, or snail-mail?

Thanks,

VAL

It can happen either way. I send them by snail so the poor guy/gal can tear it up rather than breaking their monitor.

My first real rejection came today from...UAB.
I actually wanted to interview there...oh well

Rejections from:

1) Summa
2) U of MD

1 interview, 2 rejections.
IMG here, with 3 lors in, and still waiting for CS & CK results.
