thank you everyone, and good luck!

Yes, I think you have a very good chance. Sure that 13 in soap carving might weigh you down a bit, but you have good credentials that should outshine this little mark on your application. Best of luck!

Uhhh, if I were you I would be calling schools to make sure my applicant files are complete. Since some schools do things differently than others and some admission staffs are, well, let's face it, ******ed, you really need to make sure that your file is even ready for review. Your stats kick the crap out of mine and I have an int'vw at OSU. And I applied AFTER you. I'm waiting for UOP anyday now. Remember: Follow up is key. No invitation without preparation and follow up. 😉

Wow, I used to think that my stats were pretty good. There really are some heavy hitters this time around.

Most of my stats are in my sig.

As for extra-curricular:
Dentist shadowing (of course)
VP of dental club-check out the link in my sig for the club website I put together. It's still being worked on, but it's the first year we've had a website. 🙂
Participated in week long dental service trip to Honduras. Such an awesome experience.

Man, this year is going to be filled with high quality applicants. That's good for the profession! We're going to have some smart cookies out there. Good luck to you all!

Donkeywhisperer, what made you say that? Who did you talk to and exactly what did they say?

I can't remember her name, but it was something like Karen, any way she basically went through my whole application with me and told me what was good and what was bad, The bad things were that I didn't have a 20 in every subject on the dat. She said that tons of people had applied this year with all scores above twenty. I got a 16 in QR and a 17 In GChem. She also said that they would like their competitive applicants to have at least 40 hours of shadowing, and she made it sound like that was a bare minimun. I only have 35hrs. Then she went through all of my grades, I guess she had my whole app right in front of her. I got an F in the first half of O-chem, mostly because my 1st daughter was born that year with a lot of complications, but then I brough it up to an A- the next time through, and got a B+ in the second half. I also got a C- in genetics. she brought all that up and in the end basically said that over 300 kids applied from my school and that they were only going to take the very top people, apparently I'm not one of them.
She was really nice through the whole thing, but in the end she made it real clear that I wouldn't be getting an invite there this time around.

Thanks for the info. You are so helpful.

Was it Kathy that you talked to? UOP puts everything in their computer, so when you talk to them on the phone they just pull up your file on the computer. I've all but given up on UOP.... I only wish I had applied 3 years ago, when it was still possible to get in with <3.0 GPA and 22DAT (yes, UOP is VERY big on DAT scores... the reason being, since it's a 3-year school, they think you need to be able to cram a large amount of info in a short period of time... kind of like studying for DAT). The sad thing is, it will only get more difficult in the future.

Your stats are still competitive, and I'm sure you'll be able to get in elsewhere. Good luck.

Yes it was Kathy,
The whole reason why I called up was because a friend of mine did the same thing and talked her into giving him an interview. He has much better stats than me, but I thought I'd just give it a shot for the fun of it. So if you do have better stats than me try it out, I don't think it can hurt. And don't give up on them yet, she told me they were way behind this year because so many really good people applied.
Thanks for the encouragment. 🙂

I think I will try the same thing. This is my second year applying to Pacific and I have a 26 on the DAT. My grades were very poor but this was before I decided on dentistry and did write a letter explaining the extentuating circumstances. I might as well give it a shot because I absolutely love the school.

I would if I were you. Especially with that DAT score, I know they love high scores on the PAT. Good luck man. I love that school too, too bad for me. 🙁

donkeywhisperer, did your friend get an interview this year? He must have pretty competitive stats. It was much easier pushing them for interviews in previous years... I know someone with low GPA but decent DAT scores who didn't apply until December (a few years ago), called and pushed for an interview in "March" and got in. Of course, it's all different now.

Raj could you keep us posted on your conversation with Kathy.. thanks!
