MarzH05 said:Can anyone who has interviewed at ECU give a rundown of how the interview day is. Also, feel free to let me know anything about the school that you think I should know before my interview. I really want to go into this thing knowing a lot about the school so that I will stand out. Also, does anyone know any SDN members that attend ECU medical school?
Interview day is really laid back in BOTH of my experiences (haha). Anyway, you start out right away with your interviews. In both of my experiences one was with a faculty (or former faculty) and a student (4th year both times), but I believe some of the other people were interviewed by two faculty so it may vary. Either way, each interview lasts about an hour. The first half hour or so they generally ask you questions in typical interview style and then really open it up to your questions and just having a comfortable conversation. After the interviews you go on a tour with one or two first year students. The tour shows you the classroom you'll use for all of your classes, the library, and then down to the cafeteria for lunch (its not too bad). They give you a voucher for five dollars, generally it costs a little more, so maybe have a few extra dollars (I like to eat though). Then you come back to the admissions office and Dr. Peden goes over the whole process with you, when you might hear, how the committee works, etc.
Some things about the school. I'm sure you know, their mission is devoted to training doctors to work in rural NC for primary care or specialties of need. As they will tell you and I think this to be true, they really want students who "fit to the mission" that is a huge admissions criteria. That means if you don't want to be a primary care doc its ok, but maybe you have plans to be a ophthamologist in Shelby because they have a big need for one there. That is something that ECU would love. But who knows if you really do want to be primary care then great.
As for a social life, well I don't know, the students do seem to have a fun time, it is pretty close to the beach and not all too far from Raleigh (as I'm sure you know, don't have to tell you that). Anyway, hope this helps, good luck with the interview.
