Last time I posted 7 clovers I got in two schools in 1 week, here's hoping...

In the December cycle, WFU notifications went out on the Monday morning following the adcom meeting late on a Wednesday afternoon

And it's Martin Luther King Day next Monday...this is the only time I wish I wasn't actually out of school b/c adcom might not meet. .

I got accepted to east carolina today (interviewed 11-14). Its my first acceptance and I am definitly excited. Ive already interviewed at George washington and Georgetown and I have interiews at UNC, dartmouth, and Pittsburgh coming up.

The admissions people at georgetown and my interviewer said to go to a public school before a private school as it is so much cheaper (a strange thing for them to say i thought). They estimated georgetown would cost 50-60,000 a year including food, transportation, medical insurance, essentially everything including 37,000 tuition. ECU is about 6,000 tuition and fees and housing etc is probably pretty cheap.

Anyway, I think i liked ECU better than both Georgetown and GW. I dont know what I want to specialize in, so I was wondering if ECU might be limiting in terms of residencies compared to a place like dartmouth or pitt and whether the cost of a private school would be worth it in any event? I am thinking of going to the UNC interview but cancelling the rest. any thoughts?

Alan,

First, congrats on your acceptance, you must have really impressed them to get accepted this early. As for your question...going to ECU will probably NOT limit your choice of specialty, because half of their graduates do not go into primary care. However, it will probably limit your choice of residency program, and won't get you into the most competitive residencies in your field. That being said, you can still be any kind of doctor you want...so is going into the most competitive residency programs worth it to you? Thats for you to decide...but ECU is a good med school. Also, Pitt and Dartmouth are better programs than the two Washington schools you've been to, so maybe you want to check them out.

I left mine at home, so my parents can try to understand I'm not on any type of waitlist.. ooohhh old people

It basically says that they operate on rolling admissions but have not made a decision, so don't despair even though this letter does not make sense. You should receive it about 8 weeks after your interview. I interviewed 11/16.. mine was postmarked sometime around Dec. 29 I think and received it on Jan 4. I almost got papercut I was so excited... but alas.. it was nothing.

Did people receive the verfication of your in-state residency status letter? I received that the day after my interview. Both letters so far were sent to my permanent address.

Hey UNC-or-BUST:

Congratulations on your acceptances. I truly feel happy for you! From Sally's post, I gathered you were a re-applicant this year?

I was wondering if you could write briefly about what kind of things did you do to improve your applications. Be as specific as you can. Did you re-take MCAT and what was the score if you don't mind? Did you take additional classes? etc.

If I have to re-apply next year, I would love to know what kind of things I can do to improve my chances. My MCAT score is 27O. I am a non-trad applicant. I don't know if I should re-take MCAT. I am taking couple of classes this semester and will take couple more over summer.

Thank you all for your kind words. If your read the thread from last year, I erased a bunch in August, you can tell I'm not shy. I graduated in 3 years with honrs in biology from UNC, 3.8 GPA. I tutored ESL student, coached lacrosse, volunteered in an ER for a year, 2+ years of research in Transplant Immunology( 1 paper published, 4 on the way) and Radiation Oncology (9 papers pending, 3 conference invites, two abstracts accepted to speak on, one in Barcelona, I've never been out of the country!) MCATs jumped 5 points in summer, go Kaplan., they were up 20s. I was waitlisted over the summer, and took Kaplan, your at a disadvantage if you don't take a study course, too many practice tests to miss out on. Besides graduating the only thing I did different was have fun. I truly enjoy the research and clinical side of medicine, thus I looked for addition projects to get involved with. Spending time with Docs prepared me for the interview, oh and I took ever, ever single oppurtunity I was given. Last year most of the seniors that took the honors class decided not to present their data at a suggested symposia. I meet several individuals there that have aided me in my quest to become a physican.

Thanks, Shahab. Oh, you can bet I will still be nervous! I really liked ECU a lot, but UNC's location and curriculum fit better into my life. The transition there would be so much easier because I wouldn't have to move my family. Don't get me wrong..... I am grateful for the ECU acceptance! It's a good school, but UNC would make my life so much simpler.

Hpm4, I got off the waitlist in the next meeting after I was waitlisted (what was the point haha) but anyway, they always look at the whole group, new and old, or at least a large pile of waitlisted people...they tend to waitlist almost everyone the first time around (at least this year), so don't worry to much, if you are still interested, just let them know. Good luck, you should hear today or Monday.

Nope, not yet. I think I'll call them today, b/c if it's not today then it probably won't be till TUESDAY! (holiday on mon.) I don't think I can wait that long.

hpm4, I am waiting anxiously like many others on here. I did not think about Monday being a holiday. They better get the news out today!

I am on the waitlist, so the only way I will know the outcome is if I a) get a letter with great news or b) get no letter and see some who have on here, so please, post when you get it!
