To clarify, they don't accept 2x all at once. According to the info (which is older info located here:
http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=51012)
Wake Forest University Admissions
Total: 5,175 491 274 108 In state: 592 172 103 54
Out of state: 4,583 319 171 54 Women: 2,339 195 114 39
Minorities: N/A N/A N/A N/A International: N/A N/A N/A N/A
Acceptance rate: 5.3%
(format: Applied Interviewed Accepted Enrolled)
It looks like they accept about 2x (not all at once but overall in the whole process) and have a high attrition rate, so the waitlist is more like a queue system. So my previous wording was very confusing in retrospect! But if the above numbers are correct, then they accept on total 274 over the whole process with only about 40 % enrolling.
So system would go something like this:
1st adcom after interviews: Accept x + waitlist desirable applicants
Only
👎(x) will actually end up enrolling (where n is defined as the percentage of candidates that enroll... saying 40 % will actually enroll)
2nd adcom Accept y -(.4)(x) (where y is now waitlist people and new applicants)
complete iterative process until class is full
In essence the message is don't be discouraged if you are on the waitlist.
