Congratulations, kgoodz7. That's great news.

Does anyone know where UNC is in the process of putting together their class for 2006? Like roughly how full is the class??? Anybody have any information on that or know the number already accepted?

You can consult the 2005 Applicant Thread for UNC (I posted the link to it on pg. 29 of this thread... scroll down a little in the 2005 Applicant Thread and you will see the final results and acceptance pattern). I think there is still plenty of room for being accepted, though, or at least I hope so!

I think Wake adcom meets at 5:00 PM EST (01/25/06)... so say a little prayer then.. hope they start showing some love to waitlisted people :luck:

Just to let everyone know, the links for the 2005 UNC/ECU thread and the 2004 UNC/ECU thread are on the first page (first post) of this current thread, so you don't have to go to page 29, but just click on page 1.

In response to the question about Wake's start date, I think last year it was on July 25, but I can't remember if that was the start of orientation week or if it was the first day of class. Maybe some of the first years at Wake can answer that for us. It was still pretty early.

Hey guys,
It's been a while. I haven't had a chance to read through any old posts, but I'll help out where I can. Orientation started July 25th last year and I assume it will be the same next year. It is a week long, then classes start. Good luck to all.

Also, I would like to say that I love being at Wake. The curriculum is awesome, and there are a surprisingly large number of "normal" kids in my class. We definely still have our fun.

PS: Wake is the only school I got into, and I got off the waitlist on June 26th. So hang in there!

Yes, I have the 2005 thread...good information on there. But what I'm really asking is something more specific about how full the class is at this point, not just the SDN folks (although I expect us all to be accepted!).

It seems to me the acceptances on this board for UNC have been pretty slowing coming and I'm not sure that's indicative of what's really going on in the admissions office. On another school thread the people seems to know (from the admissions staff) how many people have been accepted into the class. I was hoping someone on here had been brave enough to ask that question and maybe had a more definitive answer.

Sorry I don't have that info. But how was your interview at UNC Dave_Med? I am in a similar (well, a little worse) situation as you are. If I get in anywhere other than UNC, I have to move my family, find a new gf ..errrr..I mean sell my house etc.

I would still enjoy going to Greenville though if they take me! But out of state is kind of a difficult thing to consider for me right now.
Shahab, I haven't been scheduled yet, so I am sitting by the phone. Someone in the admissions office (not Lisa, didn't catch the woman's name) said they had about a 100 people to set up for interviews as of last week. So, I am patiently waiting my turn...............

Dave_med,
I've been in touch with the admissions office more frequently than they probably appreciate and I've asked alot of questions. I spoke with Lisa today and she told me that the class is not even close to being full, but she couldn't quote me any numbers as far as positions offered, positions accepted/withdrawn, etc. She did reassure me that it was still very early in their admission process and that the majority of acceptances will be offered at the end of interview season, which goes through February. So, I'm asuming that most of us will hear something in March. I hope that not all of us have to wait that long, though. Monday nights are killing me. Anyone else ever worry about getting a call after you've had a few drinks? Thought that might make for a good story.
Best of luck to everyone! Keep us posted.

I wish you wouldn't be so negative, Bob. We don't know for certain that a do-not-despair letter means you will be accepted. It's not over until classes start in the fall. :luck:

It doesnt mean you will be accepted but you still have a chance. If you dont get it then you dont have a chance - they are done reviewing you and you are probably rejected. Just what I gather from last years thread. hard not to be so negative when you had the interview experience I did there...

oh well Cinci was amazing yesterday.

BOBODR-san,

I also gathered that the DND letter was an important indicator in the admissions process last year. Interview experience seems to be quite variable.

I thought you might like this for a new avatar:

Hey everybody! (read in your best Dr. Nick voice)

So, I've kinda stopped caring about UNC. I used to freak out every time the phone rang on Mondays, not anymore.

Anyway, I was wondering how you guys determined that the DND letter is a good thing. Did most who got it last year end up being accepted? Where did you find this info? Thanks

Yeah the DND letter was a good indicator but it worked like this. If you get a DND you still have a chance. But that didnt mean a good chance. The farther you go from your interview date the less chance you appeared to have. Exception was the october people who 80 % seemed to get in. Not getting a DND letter I believe meant you were no longer under consideration. People would call and ask why they didnt get a DND letter, UNC admissions would say oh they were behind or lost in the mail, but none of the people wound up getting in, even those who interviewed early. My only hope is I am not at 8 weeks yet (Nov 30) and people who had my date last yr got their letters in the beginning of Feb. We will see but it doesnt look good. I may call tomorrow to get some more info if I get the chance.

Hey Seethrew,
i6 and I see each other every now and then. I am of the "no class" faction of the class, so there are a lot of people I only see on test days and some mandatory classes. Enjoying Chapel Hill? Have fun at prom. We did it a couple months ago and it was a blast. Sooo much like HS....having to ask a date.

Congrats Bust!

Hey NC buddies..

Feeling restless from all these anxiety and worries. I have been waitlisted at two Out of State schools - both are very expensive. At EVMS, I am in the middle third of their incomplete waitlist. If I get accepted..then what? or should I pre-maturely withdraw from out of state schools after I hear from ECU/UNC around end of April?

Is there any way to find out if UNC/ECU will take it negatively if they saw that I was accepted at an out of state school and yet I didn't go? I wish I could get some feedback from Dr. Hoole and/or Dr. Peden's office.

I guess the financial matters didn't hit me when I decided to apply to those expensive out of state schools. Also, what makes it more complicated is that - we are expecting our second child in August - right when I am planning to re-take MCAT.

I am still hoping for good news this year from UNC or ECU.

I have asked a similar question in other threads..but I thought since my goal is to stay in NC, I would post it here. Any suggestions/input would be great.

Thanks,
S.

When I talked to a dean one time, he said that if you get accepted to a school and pass it up, and another school you apply to sees that or finds out then you are done for. He said it showed you really didnt want to be an Md bad enough b/c you didnt go wherever you were accepted. That was his opinion though. I am not sure how they would know but you will most likely be asked at interviews if you got in anywhere the year before. I was asked that question this year. So if you are a good liar then you might be ok. 😎 (If you dont want to consider those schools anymore like EVMS then withdraw before you are accepted)

B.

Bobodr san..thanks for your input.

I think med schools can query the AAMC database to find out about your status at other school - meaning whether you have been accepted or rejected etc. So, they would know. Also, I would never lie about these things anyways. I guess they would know if you withdrew from a particular school or not too.

At this point, even if I withdraw from those two waitlist, UNC/ECU might still take that negatively. I am not gonna send letters of intention to UVM/EVMS. If they only gave me in-state tuition ...I would go.

I dont think they would know if you withdrawl. They can only see where you have been accepted.... It would be the equivalent of a rejection. 👍

So I broke down and called UNC again....all I got was that they class "isn't near to being full" and they are interviewing through the first week of March and then final decisions will be made. And for those of us that still haven't hear dpost-interview....the do not despair letter goes out 6-8 weeks after your interview and I was told that they go to those that are still in the review pile (whatever that means). So just an update 🙂 Good luck to everyone waiting for Wake's decisions from yesterday's meeting 🙂

No, I never received a DND letter, and after reading some of these posts on here, I am beginning to D. I am glad to see that one poster on here was admitted after not receiving a DND letter, so maybe there is hope yet!

Does it mean anything if you get the DND earlier vs later? and once u get it, is there really anything u can do to speed up UNC's decision?

I interviewed Nov 3rd and got my letter a couple weeks ago. Don't worry about it. Quit being negative and looking into things so much. Forget about what happened last year. Its a new year. Expect only the best and it will come to you. You've gotta have some confidence in yourself. There's plenty other people in the world to put you down...sometimes you are all you have, and you can be your own worst enemy. I guarantee your interview went better than mine, and I'm still hopeful. Things will work out. You'll be fine. Keep your head up. Best of luck!!

Spartanboy, I don't think I have enough fingers to count the number of cle... Well, never mind, I do not know how to spell that word.
Bobodr is not necessarily reading too much to anything; he is just asking the status of myself and others who have not yet received the DND letter. I have certainly used this board to ask questions and sometimes vent and I think he is just doing the same.
Besides, we should not just forget about what happened last year. We are aspiring to be scientists and part of that means we should observe and draw conclusions. Now, admittedly, the world of admissions is not governed by natural laws, but we can assume that UNC has done this for enough years that barring some change in administration (which I do not think they have had from this last year to this) there is no reason for us to assume they have changed any policies.
Good luck to you, Bobodr, and everyone on here!

I am not putting myself down by thinking my chances are diminished by not receiving a DND. I am not calling myself dumb, or something like that. I am making an observation that last year, not getting DND meant not getting in. Am I supposed to be happy? I mean its been over 8 weeks now since my interview that went poorly, and didnt get anything. I have plenty of confidence in myself and my ability but pretending I still have a good shot at UNC is little reflection of that. Althugh I come across as negative I prefer the word realistic....and no, my interview did not go better than yours.

I interviewed December 14th and I have not received one yet...but I called yesterday and was told they are usually mailed out 6-8 weeks after your interview and that final decisions are made after the first week of March (when they are done interviewing). Good luck BOBODR and everyone else waiting!!!

I can't remember when I got my DND letter, and I'm too lazy to go back and see when I posted that I got it, but I'm pretty sure it was way after 8 weeks. I interviewed in early October. I bet UNC is behind in sending the letters out, just like they're behind in everything else. So, maybe don't worry too much about not getting one until its been 3 months, cause I think I got mine in early Jan. Hope this helps.

I really didn't mean to come across accusatory. I was trying to give you a bit of a pick-me-up if anything. I understand that its frustrating having a bad interview with no follow up from the admissions committee. Just letting you know that I'm in your corner rooting for you. It took 10 weeks for me to get my DND letter, and I'm still sweating the whole process. I'm with you buddy. Didn't mean to offend you. Keep us posted.

No I wasnt offended, its all good. This whole process has really been hard on me. I just interviewed at Cinci (sorry to mention a non NC school on this thread) and my interview went ridiculously amazing. It was supposed to be 60 mins,it went way over. The lady told me how perfectly I did, how she loved talking to me, and I had to come visit her if I come to Cinci. Usually when I have an interview, the next day I think of all the things I should have said or changed... I wouldnt have changed one thing about the interview. So why am I complaining. Well I found out there class has been booked since December and the interview was only for the waitlist. Well some may say better than nothing. BUT they had 0 movement last year. I am so frustrated. I had a great interview for nothing, I wish I had been told that before I went out there.

Same frustrations at UNC... I just dont feel our interviewer (we had the same) is going to go to bat for us. She seemed apathetic to say the least to me.

I am glad to know your in my corner. I hope everyone on this thread gets into UNC especially goftrippy, duke, shahba, spartan and the rest of the regular posters.

I think I need a break from all this, this is my second year applying and its really taken its toll on me financially, emotionally, mentally, etc......

Bob, I know what you mean...some interviews are great and some are horrible...just how it goes. Hopefully there will be some waitlist movement, because there is no way Cinci can predict how many will decline their acceptance in January so they have to stay on the safe side. I hope it works out for you man, and I agree with the people who think that you probably will get the DND letter, just a little later...but I also know that the UNC admissions staff isn't playing a friendly game with any of us...so who knows. I'm rooting for you man.

I called ECU today to check on my status and they said that a decision had been made and I'll receive a letter in the next two or three days. I got waitlisted last year in May. Just thought I'd share this as I'm waiting nervously for the verdict. 😕

uncgirlriah,

When did you interview at ECU this year? I interviewed in early Jan and am in the same situation you are (waitlisted last year in May). Keep us posted and good luck!!

Hey uncgirlriah! Good to see you in the NC thread again this year. Very exciting to hear that a decision has been made! I haven't called because they told me that they couldn't give out any information over the phone so it wouldn't really do any good to call. But I might just call since they told you that a decision had been made.

When did you interview? I hope you hear good news and let us know whenever you hear. Good luck! :luck:

Hi uncgirlriah

I sincerely hope you get a good news this year. Reading your post made me a little nervous - not sure why. I guess because I am totally counting on either UNC or ECU this year.

I am gonna call them on Monday. I have great admiration for re-applicants. I hope I don't have to go through this process again.

Best wishes all .. keep us posted! Rememebr if you are accepted..your acceptance is not valid until you post here.

I interviewed December 6th - my granddaddy's birthday. Best wishes to y'all too! I'll let you know when I find out.

I Need help!! - I am a reapplicant. I sent in my app to ECU kinda late (cause I was waiting to complete a health seminar so I can talk about it in the essays).

I am thinking about writing them a letter necause I don't think they will call me for an interview for third time.

Can I write them a letter and ask for an interview? What should I say in the letter? Would it be any different than a letter of interest?

I interviewed December 6th - my granddaddy's birthday. Best wishes to y'all too! I'll let you know when I find out.

Since ECU does not give rejections this early, I think you might get a great news tomorrow or next week.

That was what I was thinking, but I didn't want to jinx anyone or get thier hopes up.

Congrats on the interview, jwnduke!

jwnduke.. congrats on your Duke interview. Don't come out of Duke campus without an acceptance. Kick some ass! I hope you get in!

The letter came today from ECU and it was an acceptance! Go Pirates!!! I'm so tired from calling everyone who's helped me out that I think I'll take a nap now. For all of you re-applicants like me, don't give up hope. It happens. 😉

Congrats uncgirlriah! 🙂

Does anybody have any tips for Duke interviews?

TIA,
sweetdoc
