The letter came today from ECU and it was an acceptance! Go Pirates!!! I'm so tired from calling everyone who's helped me out that I think I'll take a nap now. For all of you re-applicants like me, don't give up hope. It happens. 😉

Congratulations! Have a good nap. 😀

This is so awesome! I am very happy for you. I knew it would be an acceptance.

Sorry, I don't mean to flood this thread with my posts. But uncgirlriah, I was wondering if you could write a little about what kind of things did you do differently in the second application cycle. Did you re-take MCAT, did you do any ECs, did you take additional classes etc.

Enjoy your achievement now though.

Thanks sweetdoc and congrats again on UNC! :luck: <---- Here's hoping all the regulars on this thread hear something good in the next few months.

Just withdrew my acceptance from UNC - so I've started SOME waitlist movement for y'all!

Alright here it goes:
I actually did not retake the MCAT. I recieved a Frances Phillips Travel Scholarship at UNC and traveled alone for six weeks pursuing black and white photography with my subject being castle, cathedral, and abbey ruins in England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland (photography is my number 1 hobby and I process everything in my own darkroom). I decided not to pass up this opportunity and I thought that when I got back I'd still have enough time to restudy for the MCAT. It turned out that when I got back I just did not feel motivated to take the MCAT so I decided not to risk getting a lower score than my first score. My MCAT score by the way was a 28, so not that great. I was going to retake it in April.

Since August I have been a TA in the UNC-CH Dept of Biology (something that I had done as an undergrad) to bring in income. That is what I did Thursdays and Fridays. On Mondays and Tuesdays I set up a "shadowing experience" in my very rural hometown, about 2 hours NE of Chapel Hill. I set it up through the somewhat local hospital and my contact (Director of Clinical Education) basically helped me find different doctors to shadow those days. I think I shadowed around 10-12 different doctors in different areas.

The only other thing that was different was that I was awarded Phi Beta Kappa at UNC-CH. I don't know if this info helps you out any but it gives you a rough idea about my application.

I would be the first one to shamelessly say I would love to take your seat at UNC 🙂

So, where are you going? Any particular reason for withdrawing from UNC.. don't mean to be nosy..but I was just curious.

In at Baylor. Classed as out of state at UNC. $$$. Simple as that.
Some complications?
To me, Progressive curriculum > Traditional curriculum. The less didactic time the better, and I despise PBL.
Putting off OB/Gyn 'til 4th year is a possibility at Baylor. 🙄
Get better "vibes" at Baylor than UNC
Snobbishly want to go to a private school at least once in my life (have been at public since kindergarten)
Didn't want to hold more than 2 acceptances, even before May.
On the other hand, though, my parents do actually live in Wake Forest, NC.

Thus, I'm still holding out for Duke.

Cool! Awesome that you have multiple acceptances. Best wishes at Baylor or Duke for that matter. I guess, for some reason I assumed you were in-state at UNC.

Best wishes all.

For what interview dates are these final decisions?

The results come out tomorrow for the meeting on January 25. Anyone interviewed before then could be accepted or rejected tomorrow (by email).

Regarding in-state, out-of-state for Chapel Hill, does anybody know how an out-of-stater may become an in-stater? Is it relatively easy after the first year?

Thanks so much.

I was considered an in-stater and I have lived here since July 2004 (1.5 years) and I worked here, paid taxes to the state, and my car is registered in NC. The form you fill out asks those things and then they ask about where you have bank accounts and where the majority of your personal property is located.

I see, thank you for the info. I interviewed on Jan 25th, so I should hear in February. I thought Wake sends out final decisions by reg. mail. I suppose e-mail is better since it's faster :scared:

Good luck to everyone waiting on Wake today! The decisions will probably come out soon, probably in the next hour if they keep true to their old habits! I hope a lot on NC regulars get some good news!

Anyone heard from Wake???

Nothing here, but I haven't heard a peep from them since my waitlist in December...thus I am not getting my hopes up.

Same here 🙁

Anybody heard from wake??, they usually send out emails right at noon. I was waitlisted in december, hoping for some good news, but looks like i get to wait some more.
Goodluck to everyone else,
Kevin P.

I was waitlisted at Wake 12/19 and havent heard a word yet.....looks like nothing today either

It's amazing to me when you look, at least at the list on this thread, at how many Wake interviewees are waitlisted as opposed to accepted. Do they waitlist almost everyone at first or what? It's so crazy.

Hey guys, guess we have quite a few waitlisters on the forum, but i just called the admissions office(for the first time). They said that they are accepting and rejecting applicants off the waitlist at each meeting. If rejected you get an email, if accepted you get an email and a letter, but most of us already knew that. Also for everyone like myself (waitlisted 12/19), the decisions from jan. 25th meeting havent gone out yet, and they cant tell on their computer what the decision is/was. But they said the decisions will go out tuesday or wednesday(email). So I guess this is good news, but will most likely just result in more waiting....if we're that lucky.
Goodluck,
kevin p

Wow...thanks for finding that out kevin p 🙂 I guess on the brightside, I would rather be waiting on the waitlist then rejected from it....

On a somewhat related note...is anyone getting anxious waiting to hear from Duke? Just out of curiousity I logged onto my status page today and looked under the "my history" portion (you never know! 🙂), and it listed activity on Jan 17 about my interview being processed. :scared: I hate waiting.

hey wuts up guys,
Also for anyone waiting on UNC, i called them today too(first time also), i think ill make mondays my call schools and annoy them day, but anyways, I asked if they had any word on my app, since i interviewed late october. They looked my file up, and then asked me if i had gotten the DND letter (they called it something else), I told them that i had about 2 or 3 weeks ago, and they said they are falling behind a little on the apps, but to call them back next mon or tues, and they should have something to tell me by then 🙁 , not sure if that means they'll know if accept/reject, or maybe it means they'll just have a better idea of where they are in the process, but either way pretty scary. So for everyone else waiting, it looks like maybe next week we should start seeing some movement on the acceptance/rejection list, but hey any movement is good movement...kinda, I HATE WAITING.
Goodluck,
Kevin P.

WHY'D YOU TELL ME THIS?! :scared: Of course I had to go check. 😉 Mine was processed way back on 11/07 . . . exactly 1 week after I interviewed. This could either be a really good thing or a really bad thing. 🙁 Oh, did you notice they snail mail the results on Monday the 27th?? AUUUUUUUUUUGH. :scared:

Please excuse all the smilies. I'm somewhat going nuts here.

True, I can't take this waiting...and then there's the anticipation if you do end up with an email...rejection or acceptance?

I will tell you an inside secret. If you want to go to wake forest then you have to write a letter saying how great wake forest is, how its your top choice, and how just thinking of it gives you goose bumps. You need to stroke their ego and say how its been a dream all your life to be a demon deacon (even though the b ball team is in shambles).....

HAHA...mine was processed 3 days 3 hours and 39 minutes after my interview!!! ON A SATURDAY!!! whhooooaaa! THAT MEANS....nothing.... 😉 and trust me the interview was best part of my application, maybe a tie with letters of rec or activities, well GPA not too bad, mcats errrr hey only 27 plus three days left, well 28 for me I can roll over and be in Duke's post-office. :luck:

Mine was processed almost exactly a month after my interview.....I wonder why there is so much variablity

I also heard that students who are accepted get a phone call from Duke before they get the actual letter....great, another couple of days I will be attached to my cell phone and mondays with UNC are bad enough!

Is there still no word from Wake? Perhaps tomorrow.

I didn't get an email....has anyone???

All this talk about Wake, but what is up with ECU? Has anyone heard back from them, or know what is going on? Every time I call the office I get the answering machine.

RE: Wake

I called the admissions office, and they said that the decisions may not be out until the latter part of the week or even maybe next week.

Next Wake adcom meeting is 02/08/06.
Predicted UNC adcom meeting is 02/06/06 (next Monday)

So go do something else 🙂

MarzH05, I called ECU today. Nothing new really. They said they have reviewed my file but no final decision has been taken. Sheila also said Dr. Peden does not want to fill up the class too soon - so that means we are gonna wait till April.

Sorry to hear that. Are you an in-state applicant or out of state?

Out of state, so I wasn't TOO surprised...

I haven't been invited for an interview at UNC yet, but haven't been rejected. Does anyone know if they are still giving OOS interviews?

Hey Seethrew,
i6 and I see each other every now and then. I am of the "no class" faction of the class, so there are a lot of people I only see on test days and some mandatory classes. Enjoying Chapel Hill? Have fun at prom. We did it a couple months ago and it was a blast. Sooo much like HS....having to ask a date.

Congrats Bust!

-Philip

PS: I've seen seethrew naked
😱 now the rumormill gets a grindin!

prom was fun... def like high school. was up til wee hours.
this years class is way cool, we had an awesome showing.
omg cardiology omg neuro omg histo omg omg
i tried to steal cookies from some group of interviwees the other day, didnt happen. 🙁

also: oos'ers - i think it is usually easy to get instate after a year of oos. catch is it is hard to get in oos.

to get instate before classes start you have to have had a year residency under your belt in state. checking account is good. job or other reason to be in state is good (that is other than school.) license & reg & voter registration instate is good too. there are forms i think that are available online somewhere on www.unc.edu - check out the long form for residency.

hey guys,
for anyone waiting on wake forest, they said the dean of admissions was out of town all week, and decisions(1/25) wont go out until next week. She said they may go out monday, but most likely tues or wed.
