Thanks for the encouragement, guys. I can't wait to meet CanI and Bust, and seethrew if she is available and i6 too. And the peeps from this year's thread, too, of course!

I remember gdubb very well, and so I have absolutely no expectations going into this program. I think good letters of recommedation are always helpful, but I know there are no guarantees. But I'm gonna work hard and have some fun too. 😛

I can't wait for all the good news next week (or this week or whenever it actually happens!). I hope everyone hears by this time next week. Good luck, guys!

i61164 where you in this program? I heard it was rigorous. Just curious if you had first hand knowledge.

thanks

I have not done the program but it has been discussed on SDN before. The word was that this program can help you get accepted to med school, but only if you do really well.

dr. hoole told me, during my interview, 'you have a superb application. your academic record is excellent, just like the rest of our OOS, except for they've done things.'

clinically-related things.
public health don't count.

I might as well go first. Waitlisted. Postmarked yesterday. There's a short form they ask for you to return by May 15th.

:barf: . I feel sick to my stomach. Dreading getting the mail when I get home.

:luck: to all of us.

Oh wow, guys. I remember that :barf: feeling myself last year. Not fun at all. But just remember that you will know your status soon, and it might just be good news.

Congrats, Dr. Giggles! Waitlists are much much better than rejections. And like some people on this thread have said, there might be a lot of waitlist movement this year. Good luck and I hope everyone gets a big envelope!

For anyone waiting for Wake:

I just talked to someone in the admissions office. They expect movement after the 1st of May because that is their deadline and again after the 15th because that is everyone else's deadline. Then again later on in early July.

:luck:

Dr. Giggles..

If I were in your shoes (they don't stink right?), I would be happy with a waitlist. Of course, no one would hear any complain about an acceptance.

Best wishes..

Thanks.. I quit calling Wake after I got the "you're "special" because you can't count 3 wks between adcom meetings so you call us" attitude. Yeah I'm glad to hear that there may be some movement.

What kind of gpa and mcat score do you have to have to be accepted to an NC school as an out of stater?

Aw, bust, sorry to hear that. I've never had a root canal but they don't sound like a pleasant experience.

I'm having an upper GI with SBFT tomorrow, so rest assured you are not alone. I think I'd rather have a medical procedure than a dental one anyday! Hope you feel better soon! 😉

Well that was a long walk home but no news for me today, and I only live a couple of blocks away from the medical school ... I shall just continue waiting 😀

Congratulations on the waitlist!

Dr. Giggles, Congrats on the waitlist! I am hoping for that... I learned yesterday that my PI (UNC Faculty) has known for about a month that I will NOT be getting an acceptance, but maybe WL. But nothing today!
Bust, that sucks. You hanging in there? You didn't get it done for free by the dental students, did you?
GL everyone!

Well, I know it beats a rejection, but I don't know if I can take another interminable month of waiting, let alone four (and I only interviewed in February). Maybe I'm just a half-empty guy. But thanks to you guys for the congratulatory remarks.

I might have been the first person to turn in the alternate form (~4:30 today, in the admissions office). Hopefully that counts for something.

I called the office today since I have not received my letter. Last week Lisa told me they would be able to tell us over the phone by now. The guy I talked to said that he couldn't tell me because not all the decisions had been made. He told me mine had, of course he didn't tell me what it was, but I was really surprised to hear that they haven't finished making decisions, whats with that?

I got the same response when I called. That guy in the office just won't crack. Even though he's staring at my file right in front of him, there is no amount of charrm, cajoling, or desperate pleading to make him give me even a hint. I have of course assumed that it is because I'm getting a big fat rejection letter (more likely a small, skinny rejection letter) and he doesn't want to be the one to let the bomb drop.

I'm a man, I can take it! Just end the madness!

Well, let me go second. Waitlist for me as well. I'll take it. Postmarked the 19th. Good luck to everyone waiting to hear and Congrats Dr. Giggles.

With Dr. Giggles and Dave_med on the list, I feel like I am joining some good company... waitlist here as well. Postmarked 4/19. Good luck everyone!

Congrats Dave_med and jwnduke! how many people do they typically waitlist? Anyone knows?

Thanks!

P.S: I just called admissions. They said my letter went out this morning. I should get it next week..hopefully tomorrow though. I wish they told us the decision over the phone.

Congrats, guys! 😀 Hope there will be a lot of movement this year!

Good luck, DEG. I"m crossing my fingers for ya!

Congrats to all the waitlisters, hopefully I'll be joining ya. But I havent gotten a letter yet, I did call today however, and they said that they started sending letters wednesday, and sent them thurs and friday as well. She said they will continue to send them through early next week, as they are still waiting on a "handfull" of decisions to be made by the committee. For some reason i get the feeling that this time no news is NOT good news, but we'll see.
Goodluck everyone,
Kevin P.

2Deg, I hope you get good news. I'm not sure how many are on the waitlist, but it seems like last year there were about 45 including OOS. Not sure though.

Kevin, I wouldn't worry about the "no news is NOT good news". This is UNC we're talking about. They do things in their own "special way", i.e. when they get good and damn ready. Best of luck to you and everyone waiting.

Well, I guess I make it four for four so far, but I am on the alternate list as well. My letter was postmarked 4/19 but they used my old Chapel Hill address for some reason.

I must say I was expecting an outright rejection, so I'm quite happy to be waitlisted - we'll now see which turns out first, EVMS or UNC ... wheeeeee 🙂

Waitlisted. Letter arrived at my parents house today. What's another 3 weeks to 3 months when you've already been waiting for almost 7 months?

Anybody have any idea how many are on the waitlist or how many are expected to get off it?

waitlisted OOS.
not sure optimism's going to help me out in this situation.

does anyone know if students accepted off the waitlist at UNC can defer?

man oh man.... i've got viruses all over the place. test #2 of block tomorrow.
in terms of meetup sally... probably earlier would be better.
i can suggest places in ch or raleigh if you want.
i vote for ch since it is easier for me and bust. 😉

AWESOME about MED. now rock out!

hey OOS waitlisters... don't lose hope. or do. i actually did and then got surprised when i least expected... reverse psychology. gdubb and i were about to "fork" the front of mcnider this time last year.

damn i miss that lil spitfire.

hang tite folks... :luck:

Congrats on the waitlists, guys. The waiting part sucks, though. 🙁 Maybe once May 15 rolls around it will start to move.

So it looks like the meetup will be good in Chapel Hill. Are we thinking a Friday night or a Saturday afternoon? I vote for Sat. afternoon. 😀 Also, should we go for the weekend of May 26/27 or June 2/3? I'd start another thread to discuss this but I think it would get moved to the Lounge and then no one would see it.

Suggest locations away, super! I'm clueless when it comes to CH.

We could all meet at my place then car pool out. I'm sure we'll change our minds on where to go. Saturday is good. I'm pretty flexible, but it would be sweet to have everyone on the thread thats applied to UNC to show up. Even WLs b/c a bunch are going to get in this year. I'll start a list!

All NC SDN people that want to meet in Chapel Hill to hang out and meet the crew. List name, date available (add anything else that might be important)

UNC-or-BUST, 5/27 or 6/3

I am also a fellow UNC waitlister (out-of-state). I called today and spoke with Eric. He said that there were just under 50 individuals on the out-of-state waitlist.

Okay, the 45 number is not quite right. The post above is from the 2005 UNC thread. It looks like that number was for the OOS waitlist. Just wanted to clear up my misunderstanding of the situation. Sorry guys. I'm hoping we will know more in the next week or so.

UNC-or-BUST, 5/27 or 6/3
mustangsally65: 5/27 or 6/3
vincir: 5/27 or 6/3 (doesn't really matter as I live here)

Isn't 5/27 Memorial Day weekend?

As far as to locations that are nice in Chapel Hill, the West End Wine Bar has a nice area on the roof and good drinks, with lots of other bars within walking distance for afterwards.

That sounds good, I've never been there

for OOS waitlisters, here's what i've found out:

1. Fewer than 50 OOS usually sit on the OOS waitlist.
2. The list is not ranked. When/if an accepted OOS declines admissions, the committee re-reviews every waitlisted OOS application on file.
3. We should check back with admissions every 2 weeks to a month for our status update.
4. Students accepted off of the waitlist *can* defer, pending departmental approval.

Sorry to interrupt your North Carolina get-together plans, but since this thread has recently been hijacked by UNC hopefuls, I thought I'd share a dream I had about Wake last night. I'm on their waitlist, and desperately desperately desperately want to get in.

So my best friend/co-worker and I walked outside of our work building and were stopped on the corner by a woman who somehow knew who I was, and told me that I had been admitted to Wake, and handed me a ticket, which apparently was my receipt and proof of admittance. She turned to my friend, who had been rejected from Wake last September pre-secondary, and said that because of her stellar performances interviewing for some Wake graduate programs (which she never applied for) and scores of 'T' on 4 different admissions exams, the admissions committee had reconsidered her for the medical school and decided to admit her. She also got a ticket. We were both super excited, and then I got mad at her for not telling me that she had flown to North Carolina to interview. But I got over it, and we went back to work and told everybody there that we would both be quitting July 1st to head to Winston-Salem together.

Needless to say, I woke up juiced, thinking my best friend and I were going to Wake. We even went so far as to plan where we would live together before my alarm went off. My dream gods are just plain mean. 😡

Does anyone know what kind of movement the Wake Forest waitlist has after may 15th or so? Is the list ranked in order of desired applicants, or by who was waitlisted first? And does anyone know if a lot of people are accepted during the summer? It's been driving me nuts. I know someone also mentioned that Wake has their own May 1 deadline, but that doesn't really make sense to me. How can Wake have two deadlines?

Yeah, so I think that Wake asks those applicants they have accepted to drop all other acceptances by May 1st. Since they start in July I guess they think thats cool. Somehow, according to the lady in the admissions office, this means that they will have spots to fill using the waitlist. I guess that Wake's deadline forces some people to drop them.
It makes sense, but I'm not gonna start holding my breath until May 15.
