Anybody hear from ECU?

Hey ECU still has interviews until 28 April. I called last week and was told that we should hear something by mid May.

Does anyone know what kind of movement the Wake Forest waitlist has after may 15th or so? Is the list ranked in order of desired applicants, or by who was waitlisted first? And does anyone know if a lot of people are accepted during the summer? It's been driving me nuts. I know someone also mentioned that Wake has their own May 1 deadline, but that doesn't really make sense to me. How can Wake have two deadlines?

Yes, Wake ranks their waitlist. I met with admissions last year in Feb. and was told I was around the bottom of the top 1/3. The fact that I met with them may have moved me up (showed interest) because otherwise that would mean Wake got down to atleast #100 on the waitlist (I think they waitlist around 300). I was accepted June 26th and know of atleast 6 others who were accepted after me. Keep the faith! Wake's waitlist moves a lot!

No new news from UNC today, but they said i should be getting my letter tuesday or wednesday, doesnt look like its gonna be good news either way. But I was just curious has anyone heard of anyone getting an acceptance letter around this time without a phone call, this yr, or last yr? Also does anyone know how many people wake took off the waitlist last year.

Nope, they always tell me it isn't ranked, but they might just be trying to avoid telling people where they stand. The one woman who I always get on the phone says that the associate dean of admissions reviews all the waitlisters once spots open up. This doesn't seem plausible, considering how many they waitlist, but I don't really feel comfortable questioning her further about it.

Either way, we might start hearing something next week!

I'm sorry to hear that, dude. I know it doesn't help much but you're not alone. There were a lot of rejections last year (including me and Bust) and I was rejected pre-interview this year.

That was me last year. Welcome to the club. I got rejected over the phone after 10 months of waiting. I'm not sure if this makes you feel any better, but the vast majority of the waitlisters might as well be rejected right now too. Is it kinder to waitlist them first? I'm not sure. Anyway, I was extremely melancholic for days (maybe 2-3 weeks). I think the best way to get over it is to make other plans that you can be really excited about. Maybe a trip to Amsterdam where, while studying the effects of marijuana on your own brain, you will meet and fall in love with a Dutch supermodel and the two of you will live happily ever after.

Or, as someone told GDubb last year "maybe you could just marry a doctor instead." 😱 Anyway, sorry to hear about the bad news.

Haha, thanks for advice, i was looking into getting with a supermodel anyways, i guess i might as well do it now. haha, Oh well, sucks not to have a back up plan and graduation is in 2 weeks 🙁 , but wut can ya do.

I'm waitlisted at Wake still, hopefully there will be MASSSIVEEE movement on that list soon, but after waiting this long for unc and getting rejected, i kinda feel wake is just puting off the inevitable, but i guess we'll see in the next few weeks. Other than that I got nothing, no acceptances, and no plans for next year. I think i might just sleep alot, and beg my parents for rent money, haha, but they might kill me, but then again it might be worth it 😴 .

Well.... NC med schools didnt show me much love this time round

I really wanted to go to med school in North Carolina. Ive lived here since I was five. I chose to go to Duke undergrad over UNC because it was a little cheaper for me, but Ive always had a love for Carolina. I got rejected from ECU in Febuary, which was a kick in the nuts, becuase I, unlike lots who apply there, really want to be a family doctor in NC, I guess I just didnt convince them of that in the interview.

I interviewed at Carolina back in November. At the interview, the dean of admissions said "sonny, think of this as a recruitment session". This statement had me hopeful, but as you can see, things dont always turn out as you plan. To make matters worse, I heard through the "grapevine" that my adcom interviewer never went to the meeting to present me, he instead decided to tell another doc about me. This kind of sucked becuase due to my slightly lower stats I was hoping to impress with the interview. Unfortunately, my interview meant nothing, as the person that presented me never actually met me.

However, I still consider myself very lucky. I got a couple of waitlists, and an acceptance at Loyola in chicago. I loved it up there and will be very happy to go, its just kind of sad to say good by to good old NC for the next 4 years!

Virginia beach, here I come! I am glad to be able to end the emotional roller coaster and go on with planning my life. Better this than hoping on the waitlist till the end, only to be disappointed. Sorry that you weren't able to receive better news. I'm waitlisted up at EVMS as well and I really enjoyed them and hope to join you up there in the fall (I at least know where I stand with EVMS and I will just have to hope and pray for UNC).

Does anyone have any idea about the size of the in-state waitlist for UNC? Is it huge or do they keep it to a reasonable number knowing most NC people don't turn down an acceptance? Last I heard that UNC accepts 180 for 160 spots. Schools will do this because they know there have never been less than 20 people decline an acceptance. As a result, only after 20 have dropped does the waitlist start to move. Obviously this makes for very little waitlist movement (i.e. less last minute scrambling for UNC) which is in the best interest of the admissions office (although not in your best interest). I would not be surprised if the number 6 (for in-staters) is accurate. The OOS list will move quite a bit more since OOS acceptees at UNC a much more likely to get into a top 10 school (which may tempt them with more name recognition or scholarship money).
