If you do then so do I! I am also "working," but on SDN between calling pts and holding for pharmacies! As long as I am getting my work done, right? 🙄

I think I finally figured out why the pharmacists at the drug store tells me to come back in one hour just to count pills. Seriously though, sometimes when they say stuff likt that, I just wanna jump over that damn counter and beat them with a brown paper bag full of medicines.

Anyone check out their financial aid package? I just got mine today

Just got mine - only loans - just as expected. Crunch time now.

Ha ha yo tambien, DrHuang. Me too. I remember Firebird used to have a different avatar of the lovely Keira Knightly. He's got good taste, too bad he's not a hot girl. As another poster once put it, Keira Knightly is Natalie Portman...with an English accent. 😍

Not to take anything away from fantasizing about Firebirdguy being Keira Knightly but anyone on the waitlist hear anything?

 (well I'll just imagine Orlando Bloom or something....)

no news here. I almost spazzed out when I got an "unknown" call today on my phone, but it was just my friend calling me from work! 😡

SLU has a pretty generous financial aid package. $62k total. This is probably because tuition is already like $38-39k. =P

Is the 62K "cost of attendance"= total amount you can borrow up to? 😕

$62k per year. It's probably reasonable considering living expense shouldn't be very high in St. louis (as opposed to where I live right now in West LA).

Yeah, that is reasonable, my state school only allows an additional 12k/year for living expenses when you subtract out tuition and fees.

Heh, I've been to Scottsdale once. During my first year of grad school some classmates and I stayed at one of my classmates' grandma's house in Scottsdale so that we could drive down to Tucson to watch the first round of the NCAA tournament at U of A. UCLA lost in the first round that year. Bastards!

And it is hot as hell in Scottsdale in the summer. 😡

LOL... yeah! tell me about it! High of 106 today I think! It's nice here, but I will be glad to be going elsewhere for med school!

Nope, haven't heard a thing 🙁

I like the cacti in Arizona. I also noticed that the "University of Phoenix" has a bunch of HUGE buildings off the freeway. I didn't know there was a real physical location for University of Phoenix.

Yeah, they do have projects and stuff in small groups that require the students to get together for programs like MBA from what I have heard, but I'm pretty sure it is mostly online. I think maybe there are other companies in those buildings as well, they use the facade of the building for "free" advertising off the freeway rather than pay for a billboard. It's funny, near one of the buildings now there is a huge billboard sign for Arizona State MBA prog that says "Get a REAL MBA"

That's awesome. Although.. I don't think an MBA even from ASU would mean much. MBA programs are so prevalent that you need to get one from a top 10 school for it to mean much. Thank god for MD's you can get them anywhere and they still count. =D

ASU does have some hot women though. I've seen their tennis team at ucla.

ASU has a pretty good business school from what I am told... prob not top 10 though. ASU also has some hot men! 😛 It's a party school at heart! 😍

Not to be a distraction or anything, but I AM Kiera Knightley. I'm giving up acting to become a physician.

HAH HAHAHA

=) sorry guys, i changed my avatar so you can focus. Life is good!

Tuition is estimated to be 42,600 (ouch.. but what can you do about it) which should include the cost of required health care coverage for yourself (which is actually good in terms of lack of co-pays and other out of pocket expenses). 20,000 is plenty for a single person living in STL. I don't live on much more with a family of 4 and we live in the county where rent is higher.

I didn't interview in May but did interview on March 28 and still havn't heard anything...and it's been 7 weeks now...and counting. Seeing as how many people received responses as early as 4 weeks, I'm not sure why it's taking so long. I hope they don't pull a "drexel" on me (a school that has now taken 9+ weeks to make a decision for me). Anyhow, still waiting on both...no acceptances...no waitlists.

Does anyone know whether waitlists at SLU move before all interview decisions have been sent or do waitlists start to move after all interviewes at least have been reviewed and sent a decision.

I interviewed Feb 21! Now that has been a long wait! I received the May 15 email stating I too was now holding a position on the waitlist. Of course they won't disclose my rank/position!

Would love to be accepted. Was a little anxious about the high tuition and rumors (of run-down facilities), but the interview changed all that. Oh... except for the tuition!

Can you share your interview experience? Not necessarily your experience with the interviewers, but with the facilities? You thought it would be run down but it was...... ? You liked the school because... ?

Thanks

I would call them or email them ASAP! I interviewed 2/14, they emailed me with waitlist status 3/17. It should not be taking them this long. Call and find out what's up! :luck:

Yeah, I interviewed the first week of April and got the waitlist letter early May, you should know by now.

I interviewed on 03/20 and got the waitlist notification 04/19. They usually take around 4 weeks to let you know. Call them up.

Strawberry, just out of curiosity, if you have no preference of MD vs. DO, why are you stressing the SLU waitlist? You've got your top choice DO acceptance already. Just curious.

My top choice DO acceptance is not my top choice school overall.
It is my 3rd choice when I rank the individual programs together based on my interviews... with a level 1 trauma/children's hospital right on campus (like at SLU and PSU, 2nd and 1st choices, respectively) you can't beat opportunites for clincal exposure and you know for sure where you will be going for 3rd and 4th year.

My stats were very "borderline" but I have good job experience, ECs and LORs so I applied to both types of programs, esp MD programs with emphasis on the humanities. All in all, I will be happy wherever I go, but I'm still allowed to like some programs better than others, right? 😉

Being waitlisted anywhere just sucks! 😡 and I suppose I am stressed because I just want to know so I can make my plans... which is hard while holding out for my higher choices, you know? 🙄

Aah, ok. My stats are very borderline, too. Thank goodness for schools that see past that. I'm sure you'll hear from one of them soon.

I hope so! I have sent letters of interest, so maybe that will help me! 😉 we'll see...

I got into SLU in Febuary and have gotten a few emails and a financial aid email from SLU so far; but nothin at all through regular mail or email in regards to the real details of school. Nothing about when classes start, when the white coat ceremoney is, nothing about help in finding housing, Nothing. Does anyone know when we can expect any info about anything?

I haven't gotten anything on paper yet either, but when I spoke with the admissions office last week, the woman told me that the Whitecoat Ceremony is August 6 (Sunday) and that orientation and classes would be after that.

does anyone know exactly how much the waitlist moves...like, are we talkin 20-30 or more like 100?

August 6th is the last day of Lollapalooza though! those bastards! =P

Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blues Traveler, and Sonic Youth will be there this year!

Man, I didn't know Lollapalooza still existed. Beastie Boys, Smashing Pumpkins, Chili Peppers 1992! Crap I'm old.

Hi all,

So after waiting about 8 weeks already post interview...I called the school again today and received the same answer that I have been used to hearing..."No decision has been made yet." I don't know why its taking so long...and my interviewer was Dr. Swierkosz who is on the admissions committee so I assume that he wouldn't forget to turn his evaluation in.

May 15th has come and gone so I'm getting a bit worried...I just hope this delay doesn't automatically mean rejection. Any thoughts...?

Or maybe it's an automatic acceptance. There are 2 ways to look at it.

And is it just me or the wailtlist at SLU hasn't even budged. I keep checking the WL miracle, Official 2006 WL and evey other thread with WL attached to it and zip for SLU. Just put me outta my misery at this point.

Yep, I have not seen any WL movement for SLU either (at least not on SDN!) Maybe it's just taking them more time than others to process all of the drops (acceptances and other waitlisters that have already gotten in to a higher choice school) 😕

Plus they had interviews that went into May, so they may still be reviewing apps and letting some people in on straight acceptance, although I'd sure hope they still intend to give us desperate waitlisters some love! 😍 Did you send a LOI to them?

I sent an LOI 2 days after being on the waitlist. I said that SLU is my number 1 choice at this point, I would readily attend. And that after a thorough comparison, it is clear that at this point to me, SLU is indeed better than sliced bread. And I didn't use the regular bread either, I compared it with gourmet banana bread and SLU won.

yeah, it has always confused me why some people frown on SLU... why? because it's not Harvard or WashU? Ack, please! SLU is an awesome med school!!!... I just saw their match list the other day and graduates are going in to A LOT of competetive specialties. And they have amazing rotations, they are known for their patient care training in addition to research. Wow. I couldn't ask for more, really.

Maybe people are put off by the cost? I don't know. I don't have any options where cost is concerned. My state school rejected me, so it's out of state or private= $$$. All I know is that I am honored to be waitlisted at SLU...

and I'd be even more honored to be accepted. yum. gormet banana bread. How about stuffed french toast? 😎 yum!
