There was like a steam tunnel or something. I remember it was hot as hell walking through it.

Yeah, which is probably nice in the cold of winter! brrrrrr 😎

I have been accepted to SLU and am on some other wait lists. I want to get a general feel for what people think about the school. Having skimmed some of the previous posts, there is a mixed bag of comments. I have spoken with some students that have graduated from SLU. Few, if any, have negative things to say. I remain very excited about attending school there, but am curious as to what some others thoughts are...

Any waitlisters hear anything today? I just want to know if the damn cogs in that machine is moving.

....hmmmm.... I know.... the movement.... of.... the gears.... seems.... a bit.... de.....layed....

🙄 🙄 🙄

Does anybody know what type of teaching method SLU uses? I know they are system based but is it lecture, small group, problem based...?

I called SLU this morning and they have been accepting students off the alternate list. But you wouldn't know it looking around here. Damn you SDN and here I thought you were a good representation of all things med school.

Anybody heard back from their interview in May yet?

I interviewed in early May and just received an e-mail saying that I'm being placed on the alternate list... Anybody else hear back from May interviews??

me too, I intervied in mid April and just got email that I'm on alternate list :scared: Must be at the bottom of the stack! so its basically a delayed denial right?

Does SLU even flat-out reject anyone after an interview? It seems they placed everyone not accepted on the alternate list. And that scares me. :scared:

May 2nd interview here. I emailed them yesterday and they told me they have yet to reach a decision.

Per the WL thread 2002-2005.... SLU waitlisters on SDN got pulled off:

St Louis: 5/21 - 7/23, 5/12, 6/10, 6/13 [mail/call]

I have a feeling since they are still making decisions on those who interviewed in May, the WL might not start moving until they finalize those decisions... June?? who knows... all I know is that I am not very patient in this process... not when it's my life I am trying to plan! 🙁

so I guess wait until mid June, June 15, if don't hear anything then reapply June 16.

It's funny, after waiting 8 weeks or so to hear a decision, I finally get waitlisted and my first response (after being a bit happy that its not a rejection) was to wonder whether anyone got rejected post interview. So that is definitely a good question. The waitlist email itself says that us waitlisters "were chosen as an alternate over numerous able competitors." I wonder by these competitors if it means people who were never even interviewed.

Anyhow, looks like this thread will be one of my favorites till july-august and in the meantime I get to spend my internet time with you guys!

I was also going to write a letter of intent right away, but wasn't sure who to address it to...any thoughts?

Thanks All,
Kitt9000

I addressed mine to the admissions committee. I sent one by fax and mailed the original. I called to confirm that both of them have been received. I'm gonna call and ask 'cause I checked out the 2006 wall of shame thread and nobody has been rejected from SLU.

When they invited me to interview back in March, I called the admissions office to confirm that I would not be interviewing for the waitlist. "Oh no, we would never do that," was the response I got. After being waitlisted one month after interviewing, I emailed my interviewer to find out WTF. He said, "Everyone that interviews at this time of year will be on a waitlist
until May 15 (Monday) when accepted applicants have their last chance to
withdraw from our matriculant list and still receive a refund of their
deposit. Many applicants hold their names on several lists until this
date. Next week we will have more of an idea how many of those we have
accepted are actually coming. Your interview was fine, but the decision
is up to the committee whose scores I do not get to see."

I also called the office after the waitlist email to find out when movement was expected: evasive answer and to find out if some people are rejected after interviewing: I was assured that some are.
Basically, you should ask your questions, in "yes or no" format, about the SLU admissions process to a magic 8-ball.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Rayhan. I did sent an LOI to another school's "Admissions Committee" but wasn't sure whether to address it to the dean of admissions, or just the committee. Admissions committee it is! Oh, and do let us know regarding the "anyone rejected post-interview" question...thanks again!

I forgot about that thread... I have not posted my rejections on there. Maybe nobody else has either!

For everyone who just got the email about being on the alternate list, did your email say something to the effect of
"The Committee wishes to emphasize that you were chosen as an alternate over numerous able competitors."

Just curious!!!

you got 2 letters?

I feel like ****
SLUs admission process - why don't they have a ranked waitlist?

I take it they work late so they can pick and choose the best from the late applicants? guess they put so many people on the waitlist that once a slot opens up, they want to have the option to choose from the even later applicants, which they wouldn't be able to do if they told someone they were ranked 5 two months earlier?

Looks like I just joined the great SLU alternate list. Anybody knows how many people are on this list? 100? 200?

They sent 2 to me. One was specifically addressed to me as to the decision of my interview and the other was a general dear applicant e-mail that was sent to all the WL people of 05/15.

well I don't know total, there are probably at least 5-10 of us that frequent SDN, along with some that have already been accepted 😉 welcome!

No one knows. It like a rhetorical question...there are no answers. Any they won't even tell you your rank although they say that it's a ranked waitlist. Personally, I think they do this for fun..."the waitlist is ranked but we can't tell you your position on the list....cosmic ownage there losers". 👎

See my post on the page before this one. Signs point to yes?

the waitlist IS ranked - they just wont tell where you stand.

as i'm reading the posts... I'm curious as to whether the "alternate list" is the same as the "waitlist" or are these two different lists and the alternate list is less preferred/lower rank?

yes, waitlist=alternate list 😉

Has anyone who interviewed in May not heard anything yet, waitlist or otherwise?

Does anybody know what the dress code is like at SLU?

At VCU they were all wearing shirts and ties.

I plan to attend class in a tshirt and shorts. =P

That's what they do at Loma Linda

I don't think there are any dress codes. But if I don't hear from them soon, I'll invade their campus wearing ass-less chaps or crotch-less chaps...just to create a scandal.

Are the SLU med students required to attend mass on Sundays?

 omg... thanks for the laugh! maybe you should tell them that in your next LOI so they get with the program!! 😀
