what does this mean???

I got an email about a status update and here's what it says...

"The committee's file review indicates that they would like to consider your file further. We are now in the process of scheduling interviews and will continue to do so through February. Unfortunately, the committee indicates interest in far more candidates than we are able to interview. Since we are dependent on the Committee member's schedules for interview spaces, we are unable to predict when or if we will be able to schedule you this year. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken."

So do I have through Tuesday to hear from them??? What are my odds here?

Wow, that's weird. You should call them on Monday. Maybe they extended their interview cycle if a lot of people canceled or something. Good luck! :luck:

I just called the admissions office, and was told that the class will be filled March 15. *hugs* to all of you waiting with me.

Howdy,
I'm applying this coming cycle, but my girlfriend has applied this cycle and just called admissions to clarify her vague e-mail about "further considering her file." They told her tomorrow, Feb 28th, is the last day of interviews, so if you don't have an interview with them yet, expect some bad news from VCU. Also, they said they interviewed a significantly larger number of applicants this year than last (just a little factoid for anyone keeping track of that sort of thing). Good luck to all of you still waiting.

Awesome. I was told "mid to late March" when I interviewed, so the 15th is the early end of what I've been expecting.

SO.... we're looking at... SIXTEEN DAYS?

please please please please........................................ :hope:

I have been accepted to VCU and they stated in the terms and conditions for matriculation that I must complete the remainder of work "satifactorily". My GPA is really good, but at this point I'm tired and would like to cruise through my last semester of school...Anyone out there know what this means in terms of grades/semester GPA?

Also, good luck to everyone for the March Invite!!!!!!

here's my guess with absolutely no facts to back it up - get Bs. B- s even. maybe a C or two. anything lower than a C looks mighty bad. however, by satisfactory, usually all they mean is pass, graduate and don't do anything really stupid.

16...wow... ok kinda scared now. so how many acceptances are we expecting??

Well, according to current counts I think they have only put out 100 acceptances. So we're looking at a minimum of 84 acceptances going out (seeing as how a few of those acceptances already given out have been withdrawn from).

How about gut out? I'm there.
Anyway, if anything the good news could be that we won't have to wait anymore (either accepted or rejected) or I'm going to die. Just do something so I can move on and get going. either way will be a relief. 😀

should be a quick turnaround for interviewees this week i suppose... Wahoo!!

So there have been four Mondays since I've interviewed (which is when they vote on applicants, right?) and still no status update as to whether I'm on hold, or rejected right away (hopefully not).

I wonder what's up. Maybe they just have a lot of people left to review. One of those Mondays was President's day, so that could be the reason too. Yeah, I'm kind of rambling now, but I don't know where else to go to express my feeling of unease.

I'm wondering the exact same thing, although I interviewed 3 Mondays ago. Right now my status is telling me to complete the post-interview survey.

Sounds like they're behind in discussing interviewees... I'm a little skeptical of the March 15 date for offers, unless they pick up the pace

I interviewed there yesterday, and Dr. H told us they typically interview 750 ppl every year. However, there are 900 interviews offered this year. I am assuming those extra interviews are OOS.

I absolutely loved the school. This school is arguably my number one choice, other than a school near home.

She said the admissions is 3-4 weeks behind, and the last batch of offers will go out near 3/20.

I hope I get in, but it seems like it will be tougher to get in this year. I loved my interview and the whole atmosphere. Top notch place.

Weird, I thought I remember her saying that usually it's 650 but this year it's 700. Can anyone confirm? This makes me sad... 🙁

I don't remember exactly what she said, but the MSAR says they interviewed 670 total for the 2004-2005 first year class, if that helps.

No, it is about 900 interviews offered this year. I gotta assume those interviews went out primarily out of state. It's not like VA's population increased a lot (I would assume).

I would be truly surprised if they could interview an extra 150 people. With about 8-10 people per interview day, that would mean they had to interview an extra 3 weeks (if they interviewed every M-F). I'd be more inclined to believe the 700 figure.

But I would look on the more hopeful side of this coin, since I'm waiting for an acceptance and a smaller pool is a better chance for me. I hope.

🙂

Heldberg definately quoted 900 because of the efficiency of the new automatic computer system, thingy.... although i do admitt it is a staggering increase... (believe me she thinks so too...)... And it is why she says they are on target for week of march 20th for next offer batch as opposed to previously quoited march 15th date...

Indeed. 900 makes me cry. 🙁

Hi, I interviewed Feb 2, 2006, and they just sent me a status update email. When i went, all i saw was "your file is under review" and mentioned some hold until the next set of offers....which is March 15 right? Anyone else get the same, or did they get in right off the bat?

The vast majority of us received the same update. Not sure if anyone gets in right away, aside from the very next offer date.

Hi there. A few of us on this thread have been on hold for several months now.

Expect to hear some sort of decision on around March 20-22. You will either: get rejected, get accepted, or be put on an "alternate list." The alternate list means you're waitlisted and might come off the waitlist depending on how many other applicants decline an acceptance.

Are we talking about 900 interviews offered or 900 people interviewed? This might be the point of confusion.

900 people interviewed.

Highclimber, when did you interview? I interviewed on 2/28

It was kind of intimidating to know that your fate is in the hands of 30+ committee members.

Well.... even if 900 people were interviewed, some get rejected off the bat after the interview. And they ended up accepting what... 380? So we've still got about a 40% chance.

I got my status up date today. I'm on hold now too. Yay! Phew, I thought my interviewer, Dr. Brooks, would be mad because I told him I didn't want to do surgery. And that I didn't particularly care for the environment of the operating room. AND that I've found some surgeons to be kind of "aloof" (yes, I used that word) and that I liked the patient interaction of other specialties better.

Yeah...so it turns out he's a cardiothoracic surgeon, which I might have been aware of, had I looked around before I walked into his office and saw the large sign reading labeling this as the department of cardiothoracic surgery. D'oh! I stick my foot in my mouth but good when I go to it! :scared:

Good luck to all of us SDN VCU waiters. I'm especially pulling for you ShyRem! :luck:

So, based on the March 20th date (which seems to be the most-quoted date by Dr.H), we're back to the old count-down, which means:

18 days until news arrives!

I'm about to withdraw my acceptance from VCU. I've been meaning to do it for a while, but procrastinated some. Its kinda ironic though, because they just sent a letter to me two days ago informing me that I have been selected to receive the Aesculapian Award for 8K/yr. I was somewhat surprised but now I realized I should have dropped this acceptance a while back. Nonetheless, I'm writing my withdrawal letter now, and will soon go to their site to click that withdrawal button. Hopefully, someone on here will get that acceptance soon, and maybe, that $8,000.

Good luck.

You can say that again! Try like freakin 5 months now. lol.

Anyway, March 20th? Damn. Will be a bad week for me. Major knee surgery and a VCU rejection after waiting 5 months. Kill me. (at least I'll have SDN and Halo to keep me company during my down times 🙁 )

Okay yes, you too jbone. And cf. And madi. And vizsla. I love all my SDN virtual friends, but ShyRem needs to know sooner than we do, so I was just being considerate. Plus, I don't really know what I would do with myself if I weren't obsessing about med school admissions constantly. I would kind of like to find out though. 🙂

Haha. We're such a supportive (and paranoid) community! I take great pleasure in knowing that if I'm going to VCU, I'll have awesome friends!

Tacrum, I really do appreciate it. I sincerely hope we all get an acceptance. And JT? Thanks. 🙂

Now let's all buck up. Some of us have been waiting since 10/15. What's another 18 days? And jbone, good luck with that. Been there (but on the ankle, not knee - yet). It'll all work out. 🙂 🙂 🙂
