Dr. H said on or about March 20 all seats will be filled and a waitlist created. So the next date, VCU will have out 184 acceptances. From previous information, it seems about 100 seats have been offered. On SDN alone about what.. 6 or 8 folks have declined their acceptance so far. So it seems they should be handing out about 90 acceptances in March.

Previous years' threads have lots of waitlist movement in April and May and very little after that, so there is hope.

Because all of us VCU waiters are just awesome, social people. If you were awesome like us, you would have already known that. Geez! 😉
actually this is not true...I'm a dork. 😉

Well then I'm sorry, but I'm afraid dorks aren't allowed in medical school. It's basically a popularity contest anyway. 🙄

Good luck to all of you waiting for March decisions. 🙂 As for me, I've narrowed down my own decision to VCU vs. Georgetown, and it's a big complicated mess of a situation. Still, I would say there's a 51% chance that I'll be joining everyone else in Richmond this August.

I got the following update this morning: "Your application is being placed on hold for action at a later date"

So I'm assuming, the admissions committee has calculated my points on the range of 1 through 5? And, it's just a waiting game from here on out?

Blee, I am sure that at least Jbone and CF David would agree that Georgetown would be so much better of a choice than VCU. Just look at the cool basketball games you can go to and I think that Bone's scholarship is including Georgetown as well. 😉 Not that we don't love you Blee, but we just want to look out for your best interest. 😀

I know when I went to my interview, Dr. H said they ended up interviewing more people than usual this year. She said since the applicants have become more competitive over the past years. That a 2.1 - 2.3? was typically the cream of the crop, but now that is around what it takes to get in. Applicants, in years past who had a 3.0 would have gotten in, but now that is iffy. Which means that more people will be rejected. I do know know at what stage these rejections will occur. Is it during the waitlist, or right up front?

I guess let the countdown begin...

Good luck to all of us!

I believe there will be some who are rejected on march 20 (as in yrs past), some (around 90 or so) who will be accepted and the rest waitlisted...I dont think any of us have a clue as to what priority number you need to not be rejected come March 20

Who will be the lucky poster to be the first on page 50???

Visla, let's race 😛

The way I see it is if we alternate posts we have a 50-50 chance of being able to brag about pretty much nothing. I only wish my chances of getting into VCU were that good. I swear that Dr. H said if you were interviewing and were and out of stater then you had around a 60% chance of getting in, maybe I'm wrong, but that's what I recall.

sadly I really have nothing better do...

i think i have the bird flu

Yeah, I'm just procrastinating reading a book for my Med. Anthro. class. We have a midterm tomorrow so I should probably at least try to finish the last couple hundred pages.......nah there's no chance.

Yeah, it is about the 'Hmong' and their experiences with the US health care system after they left Thailand. It's called "The spirit catches you and you fall down." It is actually very interesting.

what the hell is wrong with this page?! wont it end already!? i guess my posts are too short...ive always been a man of few words...of course, this could be due to the fact that I only know a few words

They were the mountain people of French Indochina who helped us in the Vietnam war.

If you could see me in the audience you would see my great grandfathers old hankerchief drying my eyes. Thanks, Visla, amidst all the anguish of waiting for an acceptance you have managed yet again to bring tears to my eyes.

Anyways, I really better read a little.

NyQuil will do funny things to your dreams, lemme tell you.

One time after taking NyQuil I dreampt that my family and I were crossing this pit of lava on a tightrope to get into this Japanese restaurant that served nothing but cabbage, and you only wanted to use the purple forks because all of the other colored forks were poisonous. However, my brother didn't actually end up joining us at the restaurant because he turned into a flock of 5 blue birds and flew away before crossing the lava pit. Finally, the entire city was invaded by a mob of Swedish tourists who were driving nothing but Saabs. Saab cars, Saab buses, Saab everything.

NyQuil is awesome. 👍

I so hope you are right. I'll take those %'s

I thought that it was you had a 60% chance of getting an interview if you were OOS and received a secondary. However, it would be great if it was both. 🙂

From the MSAR numbers someone posted from last year, it seemed like you had 50-55% chance of getting in. Dr. H said they interviewed about 200 more people this year. I just assumed it was OOS, and would play the percentages that way... meaning the chance of getting in dropped to about 1/3.

Someone mentioed earlier that 90 acceptances are going out in March. I think Dr. H told my interview group it was about 45. I think they sent out like 80 acceptances in Dec?

I thought there were 20 offers on Oct 15, 80 on Dec 15, ~10 or 20 end of January...and then at least 5 or 6 have withdrawn. When did Dr H tell you guys that there would be 45 offers this time around Nas32? Im sure she would have a better idea than the rest of us. wow...45 really sucks...

I interviewed at the end of February. I am human, so I may be wrong (depending on my memory). Your numbers do seem appropriate: 20,80,20, meaning we got about 60 offers left?

I felt like it was 45, with the chance of more offers being available if people have chosen other schools.

What I have said is not written in stone. The only one who knows how many offers will actually go out is Dr. H and her staff.

all I know is that on the mid-March acceptance date, all seats will be filled and all candidates on hold will be either accepted, waitlisted, or rejected.

I felt the initial status update indicated a rejection or wait for the next update. On March 20th, will more rejections be handed out? Or is that update provide two outcomes: an acceptance or waitlist?

It has been different in previous years - one year there were rejections from the mid-March decision date, one year there were not. So who knows.

Generally, mid-March means people on hold find out whether they are accepted, waitlisted, or rejected. Last year, they notified some people of acceptances via status change. Then the admissions office posted on the website that they will be forming an alternate list from remaining people and may reject applicants whose priority score means no chance of acceptance. After reviewing the remaining number of people, however, they placed everyone on the alternate list. Apparently there were many withdraws. I believe 75% of people who were on hold eventually got in. I'm sure this year will be different as they dramatically increased interview slots and there will most likely be many rejections in March 🙁

10!

Btw, 5pm yesterday to 10am today... that's like the record length b/t posts for this thread...

Apparently last year they had some kind of message about now that said how things were going to go on acceptance day (but I don't think they actually said WHEN the acceptances would go out).

I'm trying so hard to ignore this thread and immerse myself in my work. It's just a reminder of the waiting that still remains... but, this thread is like some kind of drug... can't.... kick... the habit!

Seriously, I check on the VCU website every day (errrr... at least twice!) to see if they've posted a message about the impending decision day. I know, that's a really sad thing to confess. <g>

I'm deciding between VCU and one other school which has already said "Yes" (I dropped all of my other acceptances for those out there waiting anxiously!). Of course, VCU could decide it FOR me with a flat out NO.... but rest assured to all of you that i will probably withdraw if they wiatlist me. I'm a non-trad who's quitting a job and dragging along a husband, so the sooner I settle on a school, the sooner we find job/housing/etc.

Good luck to all!!!!!

Howdy folks... I will tell you I interviewed on one of the last 4 days of interviewing this cycel and Dr. H.. very explicitly stated thet there were 44 remaining spots to be given out... She cited that approximately 30% to a third would probably be OOS (citing their proportionality). Further... they had over a hundred people that hadn't been evaluated by the committee yet... hence the delay in offers... Further, since i asked the question as I am oos, the majority of those people who interviewed later tended to be OOS because of the way their computer system worked and the more competitive nature of the review of OOS applications... As a result, it was clear that many OOS applicants were vying for approximately 12-15 offers for the next round... On the flip side, she said that OOS alternate/waitlists tended to move more than thein state list perhaps balancing things out a bit... anyway, just thought i would contribute...

good luck...
