I don't know why, I did just what everyone said to do.

I keep trying to put this rad picture of Jbone up but it only appears just after I post it and then when I refresh the page there is a blaring red X. Anyone know what is going on???

Rem, I've read your last two posts and I don't know what the hell your talking about. What did inverted tell you? What happened to my banana cream pie? Who killed jfk? Does cf take it both ways? 😕

Before you post it with the pic, preview the post first to make sure it works.

I think it's all the porn on your computer.

Cav, your money this Wed. Your in for sure. Just remember the little (big) people. 🙁 Send me a postcard of VCU when you get there.

Not to interrupt the interesting dialogue, but I was curious about parking at VCU - when I was at my interview, they mentioned getting on a list for a parking spot in the I or D or some type of lot a few blocks away as soon as you're in (I've lived in plenty of cities, and having a parking spot is important...). Do any of you know how to do this or what lot I should be looking for a spot in...I have been putting this off for months now. Thanks for the help.

I was wondering the same thing. When I went to interview, there was little or NO parking. I had to park in the west hospital's pay lot. Ticked me off. Good question. Does anybody know? I hope they give us parking, or it could get ugly.

No real idea about the parking... I think the med students said something about a lot down the hill that was WAY cheaper than anything VCU had to offer. And they said the lot across the street was WAY expensive.

And, jbone, the forbidden thing was because when I clicked on inverted's hyperlink, I got:

And if inverted is telling me that THAT is the message I'm going to get on decision day, I'm gonna puke.

I mean, seriously. Could you imagine? Log into the VCU status page and get in great big letters across your screen:

FORBIDDEN. You no longer have permission to access this server.

How cruel is that?

Ugh, the parking situation stank on my interview day as well. I went back to see the school again last January, and getting to that lot was a pain in the arse even at 8:00 in the morning. I took me 15-20 minutes to get to campus from my hotel and another 20 minutes just to park the damn car. Since I'd be living out in the burbs, I would really need to find a better parking solution.

Wow. When I went, we ended up parking behind the construction in a garage. It was really an accident to end up there, we just kept following detour signs and it dumped us in this garage. The attendant was *very* sweet and refused to charge me for parking when I told him I was there for an interview. He just wished me good luck and helped me figure out how to get out of the construction maze when I was all done.

I'm thinking public transportation is going to be my friend if I end up with an acceptance. Besides - I can use the commute time to study. 😀

Anyone have any idea how many people will be rejected, or large the waitlist size will be after Wed?

Thanks 🙂

I got my fingers crossed for us SDN VCU applicants.

Dr. H. said there may or may not be rejections- depends on the distribution of priority scores.

She said that about this year?

Oiy. Great. Perpetual purgatory. I'd *almost* rather be rejected than be dangled on a string for months, hanging onto unjustified hope.

Can't believe it's so close now :scared: . As a OOS applicant, I'd be really happy with the waitlist, worried only about rejection on Wednesday.

Apparition said:

If I remember correctly, she said applicants who would have no chance of getting off the waitlist may be rejected in mid March, so they can know right away instead of waiting several more months.

At this point, after being on hold since October as an oos applicant, I have a bet with my husband about Wednesday: if I get accepted outright, he wins (and I give him a 30 min. massage). Waitlist: I win (and he pays for me to go get a facial at a spa).

Can you tell I'm thinkin' waitlist? If by any chance I get accepted outright I think I'll pass out.

I totally agree. I'm honestly just praying for a waitlist. The chances of me getting accepted this week are slims. I know my #s are not going to make the admissions committee go GaGa, even if I had a great interview, etc.

I want to make the waitlist if there is a chance I would get in. No point on being on the waitlist, praying and hoping for 4 months, and then realizing you were at the bottom of the barrell.

I hope all of us get in. You guys would make great classmates.

I think that is what Dr. H said at my interview session.

I got to think, that if waitlisted, you gotta be optimistic. Especially, if there is a lot of movement like last year. I think someone mentioned earlier in this thread that 75% of OOS last year came from the waitlist?

Nas23 said:

Where does that leave us in-staters?

madi said:

You have more chance to get in straight through. There is in-state WL movement too, just not as much as out-of-state.

I don't know madi.

I know that Dr. H said the waitlist movement is slow for in-staters. I would think this is because the instaters accepted would only change their decision if they were accepted to a school with better financial aid or personal reasons.

The reason for the out of state movement, I would think is because if a kid gets accepted by his/her state school, he/she would likely go to it b/c of the lower tuition.

BTW: Looks like last year acceptances went out on TUESDAY night around 4:30 ET (the first one on the thread was 6:38pm MT). But the page didn't update with "we've given out offers" and waitlist info until the next day. Perhaps we'll hear tomorrow night?

I remember one of our guides saying that she "just walked up the hill" to get to campus. But, she was obviously close enough to do that. Not sure what others do, but I'll sweat that if I get in! lol

Good luck everyone! Shy, do you have anything you can sacrifice to appease the VCU adcom gods?

Yes, good luck to everyone tomorrow/Wednesday!

 Not really, but since my husband and I have a bet on about whether I get flat out accepted or waitlisted, he's considering threats at this point. See, if I get accepted, I give him a 30 min. massage. If I get waitlisted, he pays for a spa facial for me. He really wants the massage.

Hey, gd! How come you're not drunk yet? You should be so happy over your CU acceptance that your typing should look pretty darn funny by now........

Good luck there madi. I'm pulling for you.

Also, to my fellow OOS's, let's keep the fingers crossed for an acceptance or waitlist. O.k. back to microbial ecology 👎

I have to pick up my son in a half hour. Once we are safely at home--I have a Reisling that's due for a spanking!

Dagnabbit. Such a crappy day... I haven't been able to get on SDN all day (couldn't seem ot access the page this AM, then all hell broke loose at work). So I missed 2 pages of fun. Grrrrr....

Not that I have anything but frustration and well wishes to all (of course!) to contribute. But at least I get to make it stay on the top of Page 1 for a while. 🙂

Yeah. I remember that hill and I also remember thinking that I was gonna die if I had to climb that thing in an ice storm.

Parking at MCV does blow. Here are the options circa 2001-2005:

1. "Bottom of the hill" parking - a couple of pay-as-you-go lots down Broad St. They have consistently jacked their prices every year, which adds up after awhile. The trek up the hill is pretty miserable, as well. Cars zoom past and blow exhaust in your face, animals die in the brush and stink for weeks. Charming.

Oh, and then there was Gaston, the hurricane that unexpectedly poured 12 inches of rain on the city in late 2004. Here is what the lot turned into:

richmond_storm11.jpg

And yes, my car was drowned. Got a good payout though, since the mileage on my electronic odometer couldn't be verified. Mmmmmm, WATER DAMAGE.

2. Campus pay lots (I lot, etc.) - remote lot that runs a shuttle to campus. A decent option for your 3rd year rotations, since you will be arriving early enough to get a decent spot. It's walkable to campus in about 20 min. One important thing to note is that for certain rotations with horrible hours (surgery and OB/GYN) you can get a temporary pass for one of the decks right next to the med center. This will be a Godsend when you're creeping to school at 4:45 AM.

3. Da bus - when I started every VCU student got a free bus pass that was good for unlimited rides during the whole semester. They later started charging for it. It's a good deal if you don't mind using it.

4. Da shuttle - my favorite. If you live near the undergrad campus you can take the free campus connector shuttle.

5. Bike - some of my classmates were religious cyclists, even in the winter months. I guess there's no accounting for sanity.

6. Abandon class - go study at the University of Richmond Law Library, instead. You'll be glad you did. Only come to campus for anatomy labs, tests and small groups. It only works for two years, but that'll get you half way home.

7. Abandon school - well, not really. There are quite a few rotations that you can do away from MCV, however, at places like the VA (free parking) and Riverside for OB (free parking and free food). If you're sly, you can end up spending a lot less time on campus than you might think, even during clinicals.

Alright! So who just can't stand the wait any longer?? Doesn't it make you feel great knowing that there was probably an AdCom meeting earlier today and the decision has been made as far as the acceptances go. But we've all got to wait until tomorrow or Wednesday until it's posted. :scared:

Just think about that tonight .... all night. Me, ah, doesn't really bother me! 😴

What decisions do the Adcom's make? I thought they get together for your priority score, and depending on your rank, you are accepted/waitlisted/rejected

Hey FDoRoML,

I saw you on Penn State threads. Out of curiosity, would you choose VCU over PSU?

Apparition said:
Hey FDoRoML,

It's a tough call... they are so different and offer different benefits. I might even say they are tied for the different benefits (both have a lab doing research in my future intended specialty, so that's about even!). So I'd look at the aid package, all things being equal.

BUT, I have a sort of special circumstance-- I'm married and if VCU accepts me I will only have ~1.6 months for my husband to find a job, otherwise I would not even consider it anymore. PSU allows us, worst case, to move to York and commute in both directions (he works just north of Baltimore). No, it's not ideal to commute, but it's better than moving to a new place with zero income for 2 people. Actually, correction, with med school borrowing, it would be a negative income!

I liked both schools a lot during the interview and it's tough to compare them. VCU is more like UMD-- more "city" type medicine and living. PSU is more rural and pleasant. I don't mind either way b/c I was raised 1/2 on a farm and 1/2 in the inner city... both worlds are home. I have family in PA and VA, so that makes no difference either. See where I'm going with this reply?? Tough choice except for the whole job thing making the decision for me. I doubt I'll get a great scholarship from either school, so the aid package won't be drastically different either way since I'm OOS for both.

Yep. I have WAY overthought this. I like the people I've met at VCU and everyone I've "met" on this thread. Plus, I have a hard time arguing with the established reputation and pretty darned good boards VCU has... PSU doesn't talk much about this, or about class hours. I had a really wise Dean of Admissions in San Fran tell me that, if a school isn't saying something, it is probably on purpose and a weak point of the school. He is very right... noticed this at all of my interviews.

Wow. That was a long reply! Anyway, either way I will be called "Dr." in 4 years and everything other than that is a bonus. 😀

Your thoughts?

Acutally, I thought the AdCom meets on Mondays... which means our fates are decided and we are basically waiting for Dr. H to enter all the new "scores" into the system and then highlight those top 70% IS and 30% OOS names.... argh. It's somehow worse knowing that someone, somewhere, has an inkling of what our fate will be.... 😱

Yes, but if I'm not mistaken the Adcom meets every Monday to review files and assign priority scores. So today, they should have completed their work and everybody that had an interview has a score. Now, depending on your rank, it's up to them when they send out accepted/waitlisted/rejected notices!! It's all up to the secretaries now!!

So they know, and everbody is in the dark until tomorrow or Wednesday, even Chuck Norris.

edit: check that out, I didn't even see that post above this one before I posted. It was just too much of an effort to scroll down!
