Mixtli said:Where's VCU financial aid package? Ugh...it's hard for me to withdraw without aid information. Does VCU give any grants at all to OOS?
bikedoc1021 said:god, i just don't want to do the AMCAS again

Is there something special going on tomorrow?wistarrat said:Bumping this back to page 1.
Anyone going to visit VCU tomorrow? I'm driving down from Philly in the early morning. Lunch, anyone? Or want a ride? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? 😎

bikedoc1021 said:ok folks, i think it's about time to email dr. h. having never sent her an email regarding my waitlist status, i was wondering if any of you who have contacted her could inform as to how you went about asking her. i know its the policy of vcu not to give out an info about rank, but she seems to give out some so...how were you successful in getting some info? basically, how did you word your email? any help would be appreciated.
Bee09 said:i got off the list july of last year....i basically emailed her like every 2 weeks after May 15 "to check on the status of the waitlist" and "see how much movement there has been"....well, may went by, and june went by, so i decided to ask her if i should be sending out my amcas again, just to let her know i was impatient/serious about getting in/scared to death. she told me to fill it out and send it "just in case".
so anyway i filled out my entire amcas (for the 3rd time) and was working on the final draft of my essay, when i got my offer (right after 4th of july weekend, like 2 weeks after she told me to re-apply)
so it just goes to show that they really can't tell you anything definitive, b/c they don't know how many ppl will withdraw.
long story short, you should ask her if you should be working on amcas, and that might give you a clue as to what your status is, BUT be prepared for an ambiguous response from her, b/c she cant make promises and prob. won't want you to jeopardize next year's app by waiting...

crazy_cavalier said:Does anyone know how much WL movement is going on? I imagine the Waitlist moves most rapidly around May 15th, with a sharp drop-off as the days increase past May 15th. Honestly do we have any hope left? Just curious.
itnstalln said:I'm thinking (and hoping, I'm on 6 waitlists with no acceptances) most of the waitlist movement would occur after the 15th. Schools would need to sit down and sort through all the letters/emails people mailed just before the deadline and see what they are working with.
crazy_cavalier said:Not this school. This school uses a computer that does all this automatically. I secretly fear the class is already filled, all 184 seats are full. This is just what I think personally, may not be the case, but it would certainly make sense.![]()
Bee09 said:oh, i forgot to mention that they made four other offers at the same time as me.
FOUR. on one day. in JULY.
that's a lot, if you ask me.
don't forget, you can still get in up until the week of orientation (2nd/3rd week of august). we had 3 ppl that didn't show up on the first day of orientation, which according to SOM policy, meant that they lost their spots and they went to 3 very lucky waitlisters.
mbawife said:I noticed a thread by christi5784 and she has two schools in consideration still. I think some are still deliberating over the schools that they may have gotten into after May 15th - they do have 2 weeks to respond, right?
Vizsla said:yeah...the computerized system along with the fact that they only have 184 offers out at one time makes the withdrawal/acceptance off waitlist extremely efficient. If you think of it in this way, the class has ALWAYS been filled until an applicant withdraws and another offer is promptly extended, thus filling the class again.
WHO said:I'm afraid this is not quite the case. I had a phone appt with Dr. H about a month ago and she said although the computerized system helps sort and rank applicants who have gone before the committee, it does not *automatically* pick the next candidate in the alternate list to send a status update email (acceptance notification). The office receives a withdrawal (either via website or snail mail) and then an admissions official logs into the system to find the next candidate to notify.
Point being: there is a human component in this process hence the lag period between someone withdrawing and the next candidate being notified (on this, I followed up with the admissions office and I was told that even if they receive a withdrawal it could be, at latest, one or two days before the next person is notified). Hope this helps! 🙂
I'm also an in-stater waiting to hear something soon!!
I was wondering the same thing. After reading this thread on SDN I wonder how all of you know so much about the admissions procedure at VCU. It sounds quite intricate. I didnt know there were EXACTLY 184 seats. Seems like a pretty random number doesnt it? And its pretty high for a med school class right?Vizsla said:. Its interesting how we can get so much information out of VCU's admissions office whereas at other schools they act as if it's govt classified...

Dont most other schools have around 100 or so? What does UVA or EVMS have? Anyone know?
Dr.Phil said:BS/MD students eh? ARG that whole concept just makes me infuriated!! 😡 😡 For one this program should not even be allowed to exist because it is simply NOT FAIR to other students... everyone should be on equal footing when applying to medical school, these guys get a huge advantage by being admited so early. Second...statistically speaking these BS/MD F&#$ERS do the WORST academically once they begin medical school compared to the rest of the medical students. These programs MUST be eliminated!!!
BS/MD Student Motto: ALL YOUR SEAT ARE BELONG TO US
ok I am done ranting... kk thanks
Dr.Phil said:Unfortunately there is NO moral revelation once they get into medical school. The cheating still continues albieit in a more discreet fashion, but its a little bit less than in their undergraduate career. This is because in undergrad it does NOT matter if you catch them or not because they will get out of it because they have goons looking out for them unlike the rest of premed population. They are treated like kings while the rest of the premed community are treated like common trash. And yes this is 100% FACT, not rumor or speculation.
