Maybe they didn't give out as many acceptances in December this year?? Just trying to maintain hope, but Dr. H did say that it varies from year to year.

Congrats to those of you that did get an update. 😳

maybe. you never know. also, 30% OOS's out of approximately 80 offers is a relatively small number, if they kept the percentages true. so there should be more to come. i wonder how many OOS offers have traditionally been filled off the waitlist?

would they have offered interviews today as well?

Or should I plan on a big fat rejection if I haven't been offered one yet (complete middle of November)

I think its a little unfair to let OOS know much later.

OOS pay much higher tuition.

OOS have to relocate (and for those of us who own a house and want to sell it would really help to know early so we know when to put our homes in the market)

Thirdly for those contemplating retaking the MCAT, knowing early sure helps. Stressing all the way to March is torture.

Just venting a bit guys. VCU is still much nicer in response time than most schools I have applied to.

Anyway hope next round brings better fortune for everyone.

I'm too stressed to keep working(im at work) so I'm out. Going to see a movie or get a drink or get laid or something to get my mind of it.

Cheers all

It's not that they wait to let OOS'ers know, it's just that more OOS'ers traditionally turn down acceptances to VCU (probably because of OOS tuition) and thus more are pulled off the waitlist as others turn down their own offers.

I feel ya brother...i didnt believe my buddy last year when he said "if you thought studyin for mcat was bad wait till you apply"...i could envision that acceptance coming but yet the time has not come.....

i guess its smart that they update at 6 so they wont get bombarded with phonecalls

I'm kinda pissed that I didn't even receive that confirmation email about my file having been reviewed! I interviewed the same day as jon0013!

I got accepted to VCU today. I'm OOS.

Good luck to everyone else waiting.

Wow thats awesome!!!

I thought acceptances/hold/rejections are given out 12/15. Let me go check my email.

Coolz, they have the status change thing 1 day early, I just checked mine. After, 9 interviews, 1 waitlist, 1 hold, I got my 1st acceptance as an out of state resident. Wow that felt good, I don't feel like studying for my p-chem final now.

Good luck to other "anxious applicants" waiting.

hey everyone....i was wondering for those who got in today, when did u guys interview? i interviewed early nov., but did not get an email..should i assume i'm on hold??

I'm in the same boat as you. I never received an email despite having interviewed there a month ago.

I interviewed on ~10/25. You should have gotten an email around a week ago that says be ready for another "status update". That means the adcom has reviewed your file. Then, you should hear back from them 12/15, 1/30... If not, then that means you are not hold, and the comittee hasn't reviewed you yet.

i got an email on Dec. 8 for a survey...is this the email that means the adcom reviewed my file..or am i supposed to get an email that says adcom reviewed ur file..wait for an answer on 12/15? they mentioned in my orientation that our batch may make the cut..who knows? thanks a lot for the info 😀

Only approximately 40 days until the decision!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let's start the countdown! lol

Yeah, no in-state love for me 👎 👎

gawddammit... o well at least it's not a rejection. aaaannd, I still have you, Drexel. 😍

Time to move on and put this out of sight and out of mind. I'm convinced that by virtue of the fact that I think about the schools, I wind up not hearing anything from them. I'd draw on that "watched kettle never boils" analogy, but right now I'm too tired and simultaneously elated to be done with finals.

   Dude, your killing me. You mean like what the farmers do to their sheep, (tie a rubberband around them, and they eventually fall off. Sort of like that, but the farmer got impatient, tied the rubberband to the bumper of his big-ass ford and floored it 😱 . That is more like it.

Yea, but apparently, were too dumb to know how to tie those shoe laces.

After all is said and done, my analogy comparing this experience to a honeymoon was right on the money. A big build up, lot of excitment, lots of anticipation, then poof!...nothing 😱 . Just left with somebody who's pissed off while the other is crying while calling home to mommy. I'm doing both. Isn't this great! 😉

I'll second that one, except that I just called home crying to mommy yesterday over the UVA rejection. *sigh*

Yup. My kids. And that's gd's boy in her avatar. My kids are great. Except I wish they'd clean their rooms more often....

Do you ever wonder why we care that their rooms are clean? Sometimes I look around my son's room: books scattered across the floor, the Brio trains in every corner, his kazoo in his bed and I think "Look at EVERYTHING my 20-month old can do!! He must have had a great day."

Don't get me wrong, I clean it up, but I do wonder why.

I just want to be able to turn off her radio when I go to bed without killing myself. I like to tuck my kids into bed before I go to sleep. I want to be able to cover my son's feet which are ALWAYS sticking out of the bed at some weird angle so I know they'll be warm. But I don't want to kill myself doing it. I don't want their room to be SPARKLING.. but I should be able to walk through it.

My husband and I have seen some pretty bad stuff. And for us, if we can walk through the house without getting attacked by dust bunnies, without falling over stuff, our bills are paid, our house is warm, life is pretty good. I don't have a picture perfect house - but I have a home. You can wear dirty shoes in my home. you can go barefoot and put your feet on the coffee table in my home. And if you spill stuff on the carpet, I have a carpet cleaner. It's a home - not a show house.

But I should be able to walk through it without destroying what's left of my already permanently shredded ankle.

I went an saw King Kong last night. Very good re-make. I definitely prefer it to the 1976 version and even the original. They gave the ape much more character and personality (or is it "ape"inality). Anyway it was such a great stress reliever. Now back to the gruelling wait for end of jan.

hey guys, i need some advice. i just got an invite for an interview at vcu. im oos. i have already been accepted to evms (which i liked alot) and are waiting to hear from my state schools(nc). i don't really know a whole lot about vcu, i had kind of given up on them, and wanted your opinions on whether i should interview or not. are they still interviewing for acceptance or just waitlist? how does the school compare to evms? any thoughts? sorry if anyone else has posted this same question is this thread. thanks,
gray

don't know anything about evms. BUT: VCU accepts on a semi-rolling basis, and they have a maximum of 184 acceptances out at any one time (they only have 184 seats in the class). As of today, they have only sent out about 100 acceptances. They accept (approximately) 20 on 10/15, 80 on 12/15, 60 end of Jan, and the rest 3/15. Then the waitlist movement begins. Those who are on "the possible acceptance list" stay there throughout the acceptance process. Each applicant is evaluated on a priority score system, and the acceptance list is by priority score - so interviewing early doesn't necessarily give you an edge over those who interview later.

Bottom line, you'd be interviewing for one of the approximately 84 seats left and also the waitlist. Depends on your priority score when all is said and done.

That's interesting... so a 2.5 who interviewed in Oct is now on the same footing as a 2.5 who interviewed this month if the 2.5 in Oct did not get an acceptance yet? Does this also imply that people who got the 2.5's who did not get in last round may not get in again come end of Jan... since there will be "new" people with better scores (ie. 1.5's) and that the committees will still only accept people with for example 2.0's or better?

apparently thats how it works...they dont review ur file anymore...just based on that score...pretty damn wack...how do you know your score?

I don't, that is just a hypothetical number. I think this is why people say that it does not matter when you interview, as long as you get one.

I just came back from my VCU interview. Dr. H told us that VCU accepted 60 students this round. She said that they are "on track" with the in/out state ratio (~30% of all students accepted this far are OOS). And as of this morning, 2 OOS declined their offers. I guess I will be waiting for the next 40 days with you.

Halleliujah! C'mon you OOS'ers.... reject those acceptances so I get a shot! 'cuz I would ABSOLUTELY go to VCU!!!!!!!!

Wow.. only 60 folks yesterday. that means they're gonna accept 100 (make that 102) folks in Jan and March.

Hope lives!!!!!

Does anyone know how many they actually gave out in October?

Thanks for the update. It really does help those of us that have been waiting so anxiously... (that's an understatement if you review this thread).

I hope your interview went well. Did you like it? Like ShyRem and others, I loved the school.
Anyway, good luck.

I dunno, but at the end of September when I had my interview, Dr. H said they were going to give out 20 in October.

Thanks! I LOVED the school. Who wouldn't? But, my file won't get reviewed until the last week of January or the first week of Feb. The committee is 4 weeks behind and with the holidays, it will be pushed back even further. We were told that the next batch of offers probably won't go out until the first week of Feb, and our group may or may not be reviewed in time for the decision date. I am going to post on the interview feedback later tonight or tomorrow. I'm off for the night! Cya! 🙂

Hey All-- I know this is a hard process and many of us are a little bummed, but I say it's still early in the process and they still have 100+ spots left so let's all just all take a nice break from this crazy process, relax with family and come back nice and refreshed next year 🙂

From what I hear, their wait list really moves so I guess it's definately not the end if you don't get in right away.

Wow, this thread has grown! Anywho, there were actually 40 acceptances back in October. I asked Dr. H a while back and that's what she said.

I dunno-- it's starting to look like the waitlist for me. It's probably exactly what CalBoi82 said. If you are not the cream of the crop come acceptance time, you probably get piled onto the waitlist. 🙁

Well, as unfortunate as it is, if my husband gets a job in Maine before VCU gives me an acceptance, we're going to Maine. I really wish VCU would accept me before then!!!!!

I interviewed at both EVMS and VCU. I thought EVMS was a better fit for me. I haven't been accepted to either school, yet. I liked how close EVMS was to Va. Beach. The students seemed like they all got along and that the class worked together a lot. They have a lot of hospitals to do rotations in and a large population to serve. The clinical skills center seemed cool, but I don't have a lot to compare it too. I like the small class size, it seems easier to get to know everyone and the profs. The things I didnt like about it is that they have tests every monday, a lot of lecture time, like everyday for 5 or 6 hours, thats a lot for me. I'm OOS so there isn't much tuition difference. I like norfolk better than richmond as well. thats my 2cents

This is good info - Thanks. SO that means that at ~30% there are about 27 spots (including the 2 that turned down) left for OOS. That is if as someone mentioned above, they trully accepted 40 in October. Which doesnt really add up because I thought the break down was 104 instate and 80 OOS. 80 is not 30% of 184. So whats the real ratio of instate to OOS?

Dr. H told our group in September that about 40% of the class are oos. Perhaps this means more oos will get offered soon?

thanks pop. 2 cents helped out a lot.

ShyRem said:

I think it just works out to be 40% at the end... but they try to accept the ratio that we were told.
