They should really be careful about what they put on/take off that page. Every period and space should be as is before decisiosn are actually posted.

I gotta get off SDN...

Yeah. I didn't even notice this withdraw button being gone. If I even did, I would have figured it was b/c a decision is pending too.

Maybe it will be gone for everyone's by tomorrow? Who knows.

ShyRem said:
But blee, haven't you already been accepted?
Yes. I was curious to see whether "Missing Button Syndrome" (MBS) was widespread or localized. So everyone with MBS is not yet accepted, huh? Anyone with no acceptance who still has the button?

I suspect it means nothing, but what do I know?

blee said:
I still have a withdraw button. How strange!

No withdrawal button for me either.

Blee, you may still have a withdrawal button because you've been accepted and thus still have the option to withdrawal. It goes against the first of "Tacrum's Theories" but it's the only reason I can come up with as to why you're the only one who still has the withdrawl button. Or maybe you're just super special! 🙂

Wow, we're a neurotic bunch... myself included, of course

SDN = serially deranged neurotics. 😉

I'm not really this neurotic in real life. Well okay I am, but only lately. That's what no acceptances and an impending final will do to you. :scared:

Okay, "theory" might have been misleading. I should have said "blind stabs in the dark". Basically, there wasn't any news, so I invented some. Muhaha. But the thread is definitely still on page 1 now. :meanie:

Maybe we should honor the discoverer of the condition by naming it Tacrum's Syndrome.

I'm curious to know whether med students are ever as neurotic as they are while waiting for acceptances. Is it like this on Match Day as well? I mean, this could just mean absolutely nothing. Maybe there's a common template for post-interview applicants and the button was accidentally removed while doing other work on it. Or, perhaps one of Tacrum's theories is correct. I'm not affected either way, but even I am interested in what's going on...but I bet it's just a simple mistake. Either that, or they didn't want people to withdraw their applications so close to the final offering date.

I am absolutely at LEAST this neurotic these days. Now, when I'm not biting my nails down to the quick waiting to see where I'm moving my entire family to in 3 months, I'm not neurotic at all. I bake more.

Right now I'd love to be baking (it relaxes me) but I have the carpet folks coming tomorrow to replace the defective carpet they laid 4 weeks ago. My husband and kids are oot right now, so I've been moving stuff (the stereo components, laundry, the 18th century buffet table) by myself. Fortunately, the store is going to bring moving folks to move most things (like the safe, the piano, the entertainment center, the 36" tv, the beds, sofas, bureaus, etc...). But still. My life is in boxes and I can't even do my hobbies. 😡

It'll be beautiful tomorrow I'm sure. If they can do it all in one day. I doubt it. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.................

uhhh.... i can't withdraw my application anymore either.... not that i wanted to. 😕 😕

I can't even get to my oven or my pots and pans right now - the buffet is in my kitchen. I'll have to crawl over it to get to the espresso machine tomorrow morning for my morning cappucino.

I, for one, am conforted by the fact that my mediocre application is currently in the same boat as yours and Em1's.

Firstly, there's no question as to whether it should be named after me, and secondly I have decided to define Tacrum's Syndrome as a cluster symptoms including: inappropriate (and random) attention to detail brought on by stress; hysteria; paranoia; delirium; and a sense of impending doom. It does, however, have some positive effects for cramming.

Oh, blee, I have the most WONDERFUL recipe for a fabulous italian rustic country bread. It uses biga - kindof an italian sourdough - that you can make yourself in 2 or 3 days. The olive oil in the bread makes a fabulous taste and texture - all crusty outside, a fabulous moist crumb texture inside... damn... I really REALLY wish I could get to my pots and pans right now. 🙁

I'd start my biga, but I can't get to my saran wrap to cover the bowl either. 😡

That sounds tasty. 🙂 I'm partially driven by the desire to imitate the calzones, pizzas, and sandwiches that made college so much fun for me. I also just want to make great bread. Plain old "crusty French" for now, since it's about as basic as bread gets. I think I've gotten the proportions and prep right, but getting the desired shape has been hilariously difficult. My baguettes look like footballs, my rolls look like rolls (oddly enough), and my sandwich rolls look like lumpy softballs.

Anyway, back to Tacrum's Syndrome. Maybe some of the morning SDNers can add to our statistical analysis.

Perty mouth. When he auditioned for the part, that was the scene they had him do. He was hired instantly! The director kept saying stuff like "I've never seen that kind of enthusiasm in my entire career!". lol

Okay, so I had no idea what the heck you guys were babbling about, but fortunately, google came to the rescue. Is this the clip?

You peeps need to get your minds out of the gutter.

On an unrelated note, here's something to help pass the time until D-day...

edit: Oh yes, and...7

Although I didn't actually watch the clip (didn't want to register), I'd have to say yup, that'd be it!!!!!!

Hahaha. I guess I'm showing my age... that's a pretty old movie. But you youngsters will appreciate that Angelina Jolie's daddy is in the movie (and, no, he's not the one with the perty mouth). And Burt Reynolds doesn't look too much like a leather purse at that point (c'mon, Burt, ever heard of SPF20??!!).

So I guess Blee and Shy decided to clean us up by talking about bread and other baked goods. I won't mention that there's a bakery near me that specializes in x-rated cakes. LOL

BTW-- my coping mechanism is to think random thoughts. I can't help it if my random thoughts fall into the sick and twisted. No, I won't take my meds...

I'm w/ ya here FDoRoML. I've been scuba diving all over the world. Hawaii, Jamaica, Thailand, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Moterey, and the Great Salt Lake etc. (jk about the last one)
I love diving...just another one of my "hobbies"
We'll get along just fine 👍
scuba-diving.jpg

Hey, you make the Great Salt Lake joke, but I had to train in a quarry (northern MD and southern PA are full of 'em). OK, I didn't have to, but I wanted to be sure it was reputable. I heard some bad stories from people who trained out of the country (at resorts)... even if they took the full open water course, bad things happened. One girl, prone to panic, surfaced and found that everyone had left her... 1/2 mile out. She freaked and they finally came back for her after an hour... never dove again.

I've been diving twice off of SoCal and I've pretty much decided I'm finished with that one-- murky as hell and friggin' cold!! Yeah, I don't have a lot of "extra" on me at all but I was in a 7mm and got hypothermic after 20 min. That sucked. But the 400 lb sea bass was kind cool to see (what I could see of him, anyway!). I went diving farther south off the left coast (Zihuatanejo) and that was a little better, but if you're accustomed to crystal clear waters, it's just not as fulfilling. My best times have been in the Caymans, Bay Islands (Honduras), and Belize. Ah, but I hear so many scary things about dive groups in Belize-- and I don't drag anything but my own wetsuit, fins, and mask... so I worry about equipment issues.

So, yeah, if we both end up at VCU we can trade diving stories. 👍

See... there I go off on a tangent again. At least it's not dirty this time. Oh, unless you count that weird group that likes to SCUBA nude (are they called "NUBA" or something; can't recall). If you ask me, between the fishies and the coral and the rapid loss of body temp, I think they're nuts and should just go skinny dipping in their heated pools!! Fish and marine mammals are smart enough to wear some protection; leave it to the stupid naked apes to do something so silly.
😀

I go to bed, and miss an entire page of posts over night, haha.

scuba diving nude? I'd be worried about something... nibbling... on my... um... parts. Or perhaps that's the lure of nude scuba? That's getting close to something a little sick....

Not to mention the really nasty scrapes if you get too close to a coral reef. (ouch!)

You don't have to register - the clip plays in the upper left hand corner. Just click on the 'continue' box. I didn't register either and saw both clips just fine.

I want to be on at least page 100 before offers come out next week. Better pick it up a little. Come on all you neurotic/psychotic VCU wantabees out there, pick it up! :scared: 😀

100 here we come! Would that be a record?

Hey bone, you gonna participate in some noob destruction today??? This whole countdown thing is too much like the last week of a mission and the 6 months we've been waiting almost seems like two years. They have free tickets to the NCAA tourney at the Hummer/Pontiac dealership off 106th, you just have to go test drive a new pontiac and they'll give you tickets. I got mine last night.

I better break up my posts if we want to get to 100. I think Shy should send us a care package full of delectable goodies, what do you think guys?

What can I say, I was bored...

I'm all for a goodie package!

OK, c'mon Page 100.

It's fun to be anal, obsessive, spazzed out, etc. At least we know a subsection of our possible future classmates are all like us. 😍

I'd love to.. but the carpet folks haven't come yet today and I STILL can't get into my kitchen 'cuz the buffet is in there. 🙁

And, jbone? I make an OUTSTANDING banana cream pie with real whipped cream on top. (At least that's what I hear - I *hate* banana cream pie). I had one guy even offer me his wedding ring if I'd make him one for himself.

How 'bout basic sauteed chicken breasts with a lovely wine-cream sauce?
Or a pork roast stuffed with feta and spinach?
Roast beef medallions with gorgonzola?
chocolate hazelnut cake with a chocolate ganache?
chocolate brownies with cinnamon cheesecake filling?

To make it simple: homemade guacamole. 7-layer mexican dip. Skinny peanut wafer cookies. Jam bites. Pennies from heaven (small wafer sandwiched with rum vanilla cream inside). Rum raisin cookies. Genoa cake brushed with Grand Marnier, filled with whipped cream and rolled in a homemade crushed pistachio praline on the outside.

I really gotta get my kitchen back. I'm hungry. 🙁

You are killing me. I think I just pounded a whole box of Samoa Girl Scout cookies while reading this over and over. Killing me. Will you adopt me? 😀

how 'bout a nice salad with baby spinach, mandarin orange segments, pine nuts and ranch dressing?

homemade roasted almonds (after blanching to remove the skins)?

Grilled marinated salmon, onion slices, tomatos and zucchini.

dang. Next topic.

Ewwwww. store-bought cookies? jbone, you really need to eat better. Homemade is MUCH better tasting and no artificial anything (unless you put it in there). Not to mention that warm cookies fresh from the oven are just heavenly.

I'll call tommorrow.

I have a separate question on FAFSA etc. Is there anything else we need to do right now (not having an acceptance) other than have FAFSA notify VCU of our numbers?? Do we need to contact their financial aid office to fill out any forms???

Did you end up calling? I wonder how many seats are going to be offered?

Do you guys think there will be a lot of waitlist movement for OOS, like last year? I hope all of us at worse, get waitlisted and not rejected. I would still be optimistic if about 75% of the waitlist gets in, like someone mentioned about last year.

Nas23 said:

According to the admissions committee:

"The Admissions Committee met yesterday but was unable to complete discussions on all candidates interviewed. It will be next week before we are able to complete the discussions. Consequently, the final offers for the last 40 seats in the class will not be made until after next weeks meeting. Those of you who are waiting to hear should expect that we will complete the work on Wednesday March 22nd."

Yeah I saw that, but I know myself, felt the count wasn't correct. I think some of us figured more seats were going to be offered.

Thanks for the msg though Dr. MD

Yea I know, but I was just helping the girl scouts out by eating all of their cookies. Anyway, does VCU rank their interviews? (Interview in Oct. better than in Jan or Feb?)
Looking for every advantage I can get. You are all too good for me. Hide those damn MDprofile links. 🙁

No, not exactly. The way the process is set up, there is still an advantage to interviewing early, but there is no intrinsic numeric advantage to doing so.

In other words, suppose you got an applicant score of 1.8 post interview in September. If, in October, they decide to put the cut-off at 2.0 in order to fill the right number of spaces, you'd be alright. But suppose you interviewed in January and got the same 1.8. Come March, if there are a lot more applicants with scores below 2.0, the cut-off might be moved to, say, 1.5.

The above scenario is totally hypothetical and I have absolutely no idea if it is realistic, but it's at least mathematically plausible.

Anyway, on a related note, I must say that I'm really impressed with all of the faculty and staff I've spoken to at VCU. They've all been responsive and helpful when I've reached out to them.

Well, I think that really stinks. If you're good enough to get in in September then you should be good enough to get in in March. I really feel like VCU is trying to hedge their bets...hoping that if they conduct more and more interviews, then eventually they'll find some applicants that are insanely better than everyone they've interviewed previously.

They really need to decide whether or not they are rolling and then stick with it!

How is that at all different from the process at any other school? Isn't it in a school's best interest to enroll the best students they can find? Similar things undoubtedly go on at every rolling-admission school in the country, and I wouldn't be surpsied if non-rolling schools still stack their better interviewees early.
