Hey guys,

l

I recently met w/ Dr. H and found out some useful info. Thus far there has been movement on both the instate and the out of state lists but very little. She did recently check the overlaps between schools and found out that of those already accepted to VCU, 40 have been accepted elsewhere. This does not include those people who are waitlisted at other schools and may get in. 🙂

.

Only 40 have been accepted elsewhere? I bet the 40 includes both IS and OOS. If so then thats not very encouraging news as we need more people who have already been accepted to VCU to withdraw. If only 40 can potentially withdraw then potentially we are all via for 40 spots. I know eventually about 80 - 100 people may be accepted for the 40 spots but still I wish the number was higher.

Oh i forgot those already accepted at VCU who are waitlisted somewhere else.

That may increase the total spots to 70 hopefully. Then possibly 100 - 180 acceptances maybe giving out

Thanks, Shy and Apparition. And best of luck to both of you.

Hey, Apparition-- has PSU been good about communications with you regarding your waitlist status? I've heard they aren't always too nice, depending on who you talk to. If you haven't had any luck, have you tried to email Dean Davis? He was a non-nonsense but very nice and loving his job in admissions type person (not unlike Dr. H!)...

FD

Well I got the hold letter in Novemeber and sent them a letter of interest, so far it hasn't helped. Their admissions office is not very friendly and won't reveal any info. I haven't tried to e-mail Dr. Davis. I thought it would be too much. What can I say to him? Ask him about my status on the waitlist or just reiterate my interest in the school?

Thanks for the info. When I emailed her, she said she couldn't give me a guesstimate and to try back at the end of May if I hadn't heard anything. Your info helps me fully accept that I'm at the bottom of the list-oh well. 🙂

We're doomed nolamd2b, that's what I got too! 😳 🙁 😡

I'm planning on waiting until about May 10 and sending her another email to ask how things look. When I wrote to her she did say something like 'it's hard to tell', but if the list continued to move at the current rate they would get to me but not until 'summer' but also reiterated that the committee thought I would fit in well at VCU. She also said I was absolutely welcome to stay in contact with her over the next month or so and see how the waitlist was playing out. Seeing how the list has been moving lately and May 15 is coming up, I figured I'd wait until D-day of one acceptance to see where I stand again.

(hope hope hope hope hope hope hope)

Maybe she is just getting tired of everyone writing her. I don't think anyone who has received a response in the last week or so has had a very long or promising one.

Hmm. I was going to try e-mailing her. Maybe I'll hold off a while. I don't really feel like getting all depressed anyway. If I get an acceptance soon, fantastic, if not, ignorance is bliss. Or at least less stressful.

Same here. I really don't seen any point in trying to gauge one's position on the waitlist prior to May. Everything seems to be up in the air at the moment and I don't want to heighten my anxiety level anymore than it already is.

Whatever happens, happens. Shigata ga nai.

I gues it matters more which school you want the most. If you are madly in love with PSU, then you should be able to write a heart-felt letter to Dr. Davis about your interest as well as requesting some insight into your position on the waitlist. Anyway, I've always found that if you are being honest with yourself and with people like him, you can only command his respect (and hopefully get some semblance of an answer).

But, of course, here I am hijacking the VCU thread. 🙂

So, likewise, if VCU is THE place for you, I'd tend to approach it the same way, only with Dr. H. Of course, she is really not able to give many answers until mid-May, so you may be better waiting until then if you go gangbusters and guns blazing for VCU.

But, yeah, just PM me with additional questions so we don't turn a VCU thread into a PSU thread. 😀

Anyway, sorry everyone for the hijack. I really loved both schools and it came down to letting fate/family decide for me. In the end, things always seem to work out for the best, however bittersweet it is right now for me.

Way to go VCU...lost another fantastic student. 👍 👎

😍 Thanks for the kind words. I'll be sure to Western Union the cash to you as soon as I sign off.

Well, fortunately for VCU, there seem to be plenty of them still hanging around and waiting here. Yes, you all still waiting, you keep in mind that VCU will be as lucky to have you as you will feel lucky to attend!!

This is freakin ridiculous.

Heck, the whole app process is pretty ridiculous. But, then, if it were easy, everyone would do it. And we have enough competition as it is. 😀

Keep the faith everyone... Page 100 is not too far away. I know you can do it.

I just want this thread to reach page 100 on principle. =P

Dammit, you people aren't helping. =P

And help from those of us who've departed is just spooky...

"I see dead applicants."

😱

Hey, rejection and withdrawal does not mean it's ok to leave your duty unfinished.

It is the duty of ANYONE who has ever poster here to get it to 100 pages. 😀

I feel like it's cheating to just fill it with posts about reaching page 100, in order to actually reach page 100. The occasional bump is fine, but we need to start getting creative/random if we hope to accomplish this.

I'll start: I drive an Oldsmobile. How do you think that will impact my chances at VCU, and do you think that is an appropriate choice of vehicle for a med student in general?

No way, dude. It's all about the Cherokee. Especially when negotiating the craters they call potholes in New Orleans! 😀

Yes, but this is VCU Central. We need to know what is the best car for Richmond. I'm thinking something with a certain amount of southern-ness to it, a strong engine for going up and down that hill, and quality air conditioning for surviving in the summer heat. Maybe something like a Lincoln?

Very true. A Lincoln might work. But, I'm thinking something convertible for those rare days when we can cruise down I64 to VA Beach might do the trick as well 😀

Honda civic all the way.
I'm totally in on the trips to VA beach. I say we start before med school!

...and the outer banks are only another hour away!

If I went to VCU I could picture myself driving through Richmond in an 80's pontiac trans am...just like the one in Knight Rider 😎

anyone want to buy my gas guzzling '99 chevy tahoe? assuming i get off the waitlist there is nothing i would like more than to cruise down 95 into richmond in a white '67 corvette convertible. if i could find one that is. if not it'll most likely be on my bike which is almost worth more than my tahoe at this point, ehh.

I'm selling my lawn mower, truck, and kit car to buy a hot 66 convertible mustang. The right car for any occasion.

🙂

My interviewer at VCU (Dr. Kravetz) has a '54 Vette, which I must say is pretty pimp 👍 . I have a '99, and it driving it around Richmond was really fun...but I'm not sure if I'd want to leave it there overnight.

Funny my interviewer had a couple of fastbacks. I'm a bit of a fan, so we talked cars and where we found parts the entire time.

My husband (the cop) asked me what I'd like for my birthday. Looking at a $10K bill for moving and med school costs next year, I said "a card and dinner.. that's it". He replied that he bought me a nice compact .45 Kimber "for Richmond" (yes, he's an optimist  ). I smiled, and said "but honey, they won't let me into the hospital with a gun." He looked appropriately sheepish and said he hadn't thought about that. 🙂 Then he admitted he hadn't actually *bought* the Kimber yet and he'd think about my birthday some more. We have a... um... "different" kind of household. At least he wants me safe. 🙂

As for vehicle - well, we have a 10 year old Nissan Maxima that is basically a 4-door sportscar and a 15 yo chevy truck. In Colorado, you gotta have a truck for hauling "stuff". And for the 4-wheel drive for going over the continental divide when there's a foot of snow (or more) on the passes.

Bump. I can't believe you need my help to keep this thread on page 1

GD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think your race team ought to be the Sympathetic Runners, BTW.

I also think we're all busy spazzing, biting our nails, ripping our cuticles, and puking into the toilet waiting for the waitlist to MOVE. I get asked all the time now "when are you going to hear from Virginia?" And my answer is "I'm on the waitlist. And that means... I.... wait." *sigh*

You're getting in. I would just tell people you are going to VCU. Remember our plans for Vermont? I think these med school peeps are too anti-confrontational to say anything if you just showed up to orientation. Put your house on the market now and book your moving company.

I voted for "Will run for otoscope" for our team, but I don't think they're biting. I am still trying to figure out who wants to babysit my son at 6 am (hubby's running the full marathon) Can I sit him in front of 4 hours of Blue's Clues?
