boring day at work.....and i kno we're trying to hit 100 pgs here.

anyone hear anything from heldberg lately?

I have. It seems waitlist movement has been impossibly slow thus far, and she won't be able to reveal very much about chances until the pace starts picking up (possibly after May 15th).

Well that's bad news I guess, but not entirely unexpected. Hopefully things will pick up at the 15th.

I finally decided to go ahead and send an e-mail to Dr. Heldberg asking about my chances yesterday. D'oh! Haven't heard back yet, but I'm pretty sure now what she'll say!

:luck: everybody!

And yay for page 91. 13 days, 9 pages. We can do it!

Tacrum you never know. well, I'm off until tomorrow night then when the web update could happen. good luck everyone :luck: :luck: :luck:

Keep in mind, tacrum, that I am in-state. It is possible (and in fact, highly likely) that "our" list is moving much more slowly than yours. Regardless, I am rooting for you and all the other faithful VCU OOS'ers!

got an email reply from Dr. H today, regarding how the waitlist looks. she says they are still full for OOS, and that it will be a while before they know more (basically, they wont know much until after 5/15). she did hint that the waitlist movement is very dependent on the 5/15 turnover rate. so:

IF YOURE HOLDING A SPOT FOR VCU, AND U HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO INTENTION OF GOING THERE......PLEASE BE A DOLL AND WITHDRAW YOUR SPOT. the rest of us are going nuts waiting......

lol thx.

Oh yeah forgot about IS versus OOS, but it sounds like it's going slow for everybody.

:luck:

My husband turned in his (revised) resignation today (we found out if he works ONE DAY in June we get health insurance for the whole month of June. Original last day: May 31. New last day: June 1). He darn near cried when he turned it in last week. He's never resigned from a job before.

And we still don't know where we're going. gd, I would TOTALLY be up for just showing up, but I think they said the auditorium has exactly 184 seats. So there would be nowhere to sit and I'd be busted big time. BTW: if I were near Denver, I'd watch Oscar. I'd feed him homemade cinnamon rolls and stuff him full of sugar before I gave him back to you.

OK, Out-of-staters with acceptances to VCU who are not considering going, let's make a deal. Paste a screen shot of your withdrawal screen of VCU website to this thread and you will be rewarded by a box of ferrero rocher chocolates sent to your home. You are going to withdraw anyway so why wait? For those who don't know what this candy is, the picture is attached (hopefully). Yes, it's as good as it looks. Don't miss this opportunity. Offer expires May 15.

Ok, it didn't attach. But I promise it's really, really good chocolate.

The best part of waking up is Elliot Reid in your cup!

I hope she is not ignoring me or holding bad news from me. I wrote her last Friday too.

I currently have nothing to add on the topic of VCU.

Just adding random posts for the push to 100.

Have you ever forgotten that parking under powerlines guarantees your car will be bombarded with bird **** by the time you return to it?

Me too.

I just noticed this: what's up with the 4-star rating for this thread?

C'mon people, this thread is gold! Let's make it a 5-star already.

 Procrastination, what, that never happens to any of us!

Pooey finals have distracted my efforts for 100

It was 5 stars! Somebody must have voted it 1 star. 😡 Honestly, this is VCU Central. Who does that?

edit: OK, back to 5 stars. 🙂

May I suggest waiting and watching it right before tomorrow's part 2? Less suspense that way.

It's hilarious how each of the doctors on House can do anything. They can break into people's houses, run MRI machines, and perform neurosurgery!

Have you seen Hugh Laurie on Leno? He has a heavy british accent!

Since we're all trying to make up to 100, can I ask a non-relevent question? Is there any good Japanese restaurant in Richmond area? I drove around Richmond (near VCU undergrad campus) during my interview visit and was only able to find one small Japanese restaurant. Since I'm Asian, I'd love to continue to enjoy some Asian culture. I wonder how much Asian culture exist in Richmond area (in terms of food and restaurant such as Janpanese, Korean, Chinese, Thai, Indian..)

And while we're at it...what about any good Indian grocery stores?

madi said:

There are Indian groceries stores in existence? Huh. I guess it makes sense, Indian food does require some pretty exotic ingredients sometimes.

Personally, I don't care for Indian food though. Curry is just...not good. It's kind of strange though, because usually I like ethnic foods, especially when they're a little spicy.

As for something VCU related:

Dean Heldberg (who is so cool and should never leave VCU, or at least not for four more years) e-mailed me back today. I got a definite maybe sort of response, but that's perfectly understandable at this point. BUT the good news is that she mentioned they did have a few more out of state withdrawals today, so the list is moving at least a little. (Sorry Madi, no mention of the in-state list).

*sniff sniff*

Oh well, I'll live vicariously through you OOSers.

tacrum, I *hate* (hate hate hate hate) the store-bought curry powder. But I love making my own curried foods with an amalgamation of spices. Curry powder? Not true curry IMHO. Real Indian curry? AWESOME (but no one else in my family thinks so).

Hmm... maybe today I'll make a fabulous cauliflower/tomato curry just for me. Serve it over basmati rice and melted cheese with lentils and yogurt. YUMMY YUMMY!!

Amen, sister. Store bought curry powder is gross. Real curry is made with a combination of other spices (cumin, tumeric, sometimes cinnamon, chili powder garam masala, etc.) Of course, I'm a palak fan myself.

I make my own garam masala. The curry I'll make today uses cinnamon, cumin, red pepper, ginger, turmeric, chili powder, and a few other things too. Dang. I'm drooling.

Apparition, would you mind telling me when you emailed her? I emailed her Monday afternoon and still have not gotten a response. I don't know what to make of that....since during the application process I emailed her and she w/b almost immediately. Thank you!

I know. they're super-doctors.
that really confused me at first....how they broke into peoples houses...but its fun to snoop....

I havent. Do u know when he'll be on again? or if they have it on google video or someplace else on the web so i can watch it?

As much as I enjoy the random chatter, I have a VCU question: has anyone who's been accepted gotten a financial aid package yet??

I have not- did you get a password for the forum on the oreintation website?

Sorry for the confusion, dakotacassidy, but I didn't actually e-mail her myself. I'm waiting for May 15. I was just thanking Tacrum for the general update about the waitlist. She's probably more backed up with e-mails then before in the application cycle now that May 15 is approaching. Good luck!

I called the financial aid office yesterday. They're planning to send out award letters starting in mid-to-late May. Kind of annoying, what with the May 15th deadline looming large and all...

I have a feeling she gets a lot of e-mails from the people on the waitlist (more now than before), and since she actually reads all of them, it takes a little while. I e-mailed her on Monday morning, so I would imagine you'll hear back soon.

theres LOTS more to Indian food than curry...but I agree, many of the foods are an acquired taste

I got a maybe response too...perhaps we can combine our two "maybes" to form an actual acceptance?

So, I need a break from the drama of counting down until May 15th. Therefore I'd like to call this little segment: "If I were in charge of the application process..."

Personally, I think the SOM's could take a lesson or two from the NFL draft:

One weekend at a nice hotel, perhaps in Miami or another hot destination... Media coverage, cocktails, jerseys for the chosen kids... The whole event could be shown on ESPN--"The Thrill of Victory, The Agony of Defeat... Medical School Applications, 2006". One major benefit: the schools would recruit us 🙂

All of this followed by the week-long party in vegas, matt leinart-style. 😀

Thoughts?

One major loss: being rejected from medical school on national television.

How would a waitlist work? 😛
