Hey guys,
I submitted my AACOMAS application today, yet they still have another transcript to receive. Did I do this too soon? Or will they just hold it until they get the second transcript? :scared:

They'll hold it until your last transcript is received. I submitted before my last one was in, and I'm actually still waiting for that last one!

AMCAS was the same - I submitted before they were all in. Now that they're in, I'm under review.

Hi Mastamark,

They won't mail your app to schools until they receive your transcript and then verify your coursework is correct. Your actual primaries may not be mailed until a week or 2. You shouldn't worry, your app will get there all in one piece and will still be considered early. Best of luck!

hey everyone,

Should I submit my AACOMAS early b4 i even get my july mcat scores? I Indicated on my application that I will be re-taking the MCAT on july 24. So should i go ahead and mail out my aacomas b4 the score report? thanks!

Once you submit your initial schools to AACOMAS, can you submit more later on? My budget is only permitting so many until next month.

the designations is an area where you can update. I decided to add a school and now have four mailed, and one not mailed. You just pay 50 more per school when you want to add. It's very easy.

What is the typical timeline for the whole process.

Specifically,

1. Time from aacomas verification to sending out primaries

2. Time from sending out letters to recieving secondaries

3. Time frame schools give you to fill out secondaries (need to know for my reference letters)

1.) by letters, I assume you mean AACOMAS sending your app to schools? Well, processing of your app can take 4-6 weeks... after your GPA has been calculated and is 100% complete your app is sent to schools within a week or so.

2.) once the schools have your application, you could get electronic secondaries within a week. (even interviews if your stats are competitive enough)

3.) Schools set their own deadlines, most are not until spring. It is to your advantage to complete your file ASAP, though and you do not need to wait until you have a secondary to send your letters.

got my app mailed to schools on june 18th... anybody else?

👍 All RIGHT Dr VN, I can't wait to see those interview invites coming your way!! What's your final list? I'll be waiting for good news posts soon. Good luck! :luck:

*Final List* CCOM, DMU, UMDNJ, and TCOM. CCOM is my number one choice, I live about 13 min away 😛

Damn, I can't not believe they sent them out already 😱Even though I know I submitted early, I feel really late 😳

Thanks! Very helpful

Don't sweat it.

I didn't even submit my Primary for review until 07/17 last year and I did great last year.

You're no where near late.

BTW. GREAT school list... Loved CCOM, DMU, and UMDNJ 👍(no exp w/ TCOM)

I can't submit until I get one of my transcripts to see "when" I took the classes and what I got. I completely forget. 😳

I also have to make sure I have a program for the fall. I don't want to have to update that. Oh and I suppose that thing called a PS has to be finished too.

No KC? It's near enough to home for you, yes?

Well - good luck! Great list!

Good luck to everyone applying now, btw! :luck:

Thanks D! So whats the word on UT? Hopefully we will be class mates next year🙂

I want to add KCUMB, but I don't have a science LOR and I have been out of school for sometime now. I don't want to hunt down any LOR writer 😛

I might add MSU to the mix, great school, but so damn expensive...

No word on UT yet... but things are looking up. Been sending them letters and the office staff has been sounding optimistic.

KCUMB was pretty nice to me last year, you might e-mail them and explain your situation... see if you could sub something? Maybe get one from the SMP early-on and apply to KCUMB late?

I applied to MSU but didn't complete their secondary. They require this amazingly painful form that you need your LOR writers to complete... my LOR writers are all across the country and incredibly busy. Just didn't seem fair to them, esp since I couldn't ask in person.

How do you calculate the semester hours under the coursework section?

If I recall correctly, you just enter the class and all the information regarding the class icluding the number of credit hours the class was worth. Once you have done this by semester or quarter for each school year, you're good to go.

Verified my application very quickly (2-3 days), but my Biology GPA was incorrect (they factored a poor grade that has since been replaced), and a bunch of courses were mislabeled repeats. *sigh* I hope they re-verify it quickly.

Maybe you and Kuba had taken a bunch of the same classes, so they thought they were repeats. They were very fast at correcting an error for me, on the order of about twenty minutes. I'm sure you'll be fine.

WHAT? they verified you within a few days?? I submitted on the 17th and when I called today the guy told me I wouldn't be verified for another week at least and med schools won't see my app for another 4 weeks min. Has anyone had their app made available to schools?

They say GPA Calculations won't show up until your application has been verified. My GPA calculations were up [and wrong] about 3-4 days after my last transcript arrived. Mind you, I submitted on the 6th, but my last transcript did not arrive until 6/18.

Just heard from AACOMAS. Said the issue should be fixed now. I'm astounded at their speed!

...and there are STILL errors in it! Recontacted... *sigh*

Wow, that's so frustrating! +pissed+

I’ve sent one of my transcripts twice and they are still is saying that they haven’t received it! Argh!

Yup. You can add more schools after submitting.

Hi,

Anyone having problems adding schools in the coursework section in the AACOMAS app? I seem to only be limited to the schools I've added last application cycle (I'm not an official reapplicant, just had one started from last year but never submitted)... Am I missing something here like a button or link? I can't update my retaken courses!

I just figured it out... You have to do it in the "Colleges Attended" section in order to add new terms in your coursework. That solves it. Sorry for the earlier post.

This application can get so confusing!

I know this section is marked as "not required", so we can submit the application without it, but it does raise some questions...

Doesn't the personal statement only really count in our secondary applications? I'm not sure just how much schools put emphasis on this part of the application, when they already send you a prompt for the personal statement in your secondaries. Has anyone still received an interview invitation without a personal statement in their primary? I'm just not sure how much emphasis is placed on the primary application personal statement...

I'm no adcom, but I think the PS has a significant emphasis on a person's application. THere is nowhere else on the app where you can make yourself stand out from every other applicant. Don't just gloss over this section of the application. I don't know of anybody who didn't fill out the PS and I think it would be stupid to not have a PS. None of the secondaries I had from last year were a PS, so I'm not sure where you got that from. They will ask various question, most often being why you want to be a DO, etc. Somewhere on here there is a thread with the secondaries prompts from last year's cycle. Look at those for more info. But as for the PS, you have to do it. It just looks plain lazy and that you don't give a crap. Just my $0.02. Good luck.

It may not be officially required, but it is generally expected and essential. I'm not an adcom member either, but I think submitting an application without a personal statement is a very bad idea.

As I mentioned before, your personal statement is essential. It is your opportunity to show the side of yourself that isn't necessarily evident in other parts of your primary application. The personal statement is sort of like your personal calling card for medicine. The statement represents a slice of you; it is your best foot forward. You want them to call you back for an interview. The reader should leave thinking, "wow, that caught my attention; this guy intrigues me, and I want to invite this guy up for an interview." Be honest; show, not tell, the distinctive qualities and attributes that you wish to emphasize. Keep in mind what you are selling. Using evidence, demonstrate your suitability to become a physician and your motivation for medicine. This should be very personal, however; it should have the mark of your unique personality. Avoid trying to cater to your imagination of what adcom members like to see. They can smell that a mile away.

Your entire application is reviewed, including your personal statement. However, don't discount the secondary essays, either. They are also important. They are mostly an elaboration on your application. Many schools will ask some variant of "Why osteopathic medicine?" and "Why [particular school]?" and potentially other questions. They are looking for other ways to learn about you and trying to assess your movitation for, and knowledge of, osteopathic medicine, as well as your fit for their school. Medical school interviewers sometimes draw on your personal statement and secondary essays, in addition to other parts of your application, such as extracurricular activities and academic elements, to ask you questions during an interview. Thus, be honest, but compelling.

Take all of your essays seriously; get second opinions and make sure they are edited before submitting.

definitely include a PS on the primary.. I think mine really helped me get secondaries and interviews because I was able to elaborate why I wanted to become a doctor and more specifically why an osteopathic doctor.

I did have a couple secondaries that asked for a PS but they had a prompt for what to answer in the PS. So I did use some of the ideas from my PS but phrased it differently and added more of what they wanted specifically in the secondary.

good luck with the app process!

Yes, but it will cost you more than if you do it all at once.

w00t! Last transcript finally processed at AACOMAS!

I noticed all of you seem to have had your applications processed rather quickly. I submitted on 6/17 and called AACOMAS two days ago, they told me my gpa calculations wouldn't show up for another week still and med schools won't get my app for another 4 weeks. Has AACOMAS told anyone else this? And does anyone know why some people are getting processed so quickly while I probably won't?

First, calm down. AACOMAS is not singling you out. A week is not that long. It took Sundarban1's application about a week to be verified (read his post above).

They probably mean that schools wont start reviewing apps for another 4 weeks, which is what I have heard by calling individual schools. They don't start sifting through applications until they are done with the current cycle (there are still ppl on waitlists and other loose ends to tie up from 2007 cycle).

Your application will be verified soon, have faith! 😀

Good Luck :luck:

when does the AACOMAS application season officially begin each year? What is considered being "early".

when does the AACOMAS application season officially begin each year? What is considered being "early".

AACOMAS opens around the beginning of June each year. They will say on their website specifically when applicants for a specific year can begin to enter their information. Early is relative, I assume they mean early June, July..

Me too! Only they listed it as Indiana State instead of Indiana University so I'm trying to get that fixed. BTW, I'm originally from Carbondale.

I hope you're applying to IL schools then!

I'm applying to CCOM but that's it. My husband is from Champaign area and we're both only applying DO. I'm holding out hope that CCOM would consider us as in-state, but probably not.

I'm not going to sweat AACOMAS too much like I am AMCAS since the deadlines are somewhat later. Ideally I'd like everything to be in NOW of course!

Maybe we should have a thread like the pre-allo forum where we list everyone who's been verified, submitted and waiting, or still waiting to submit. It might help others see the kind of timeline we're looking at....

ahhhh. You guys living in IL?

I'm applying to CCOM too. Neat school!

Ok...I am a non-trad who went to college in the early 90's and recently went back 04 - present.

When filling out my app...I'm not certain whether or not I should break up my dates for the same school...please see the example

option 1

XYZ college -- dates of attendance 1/1990 - 6/2007

OR

option 2

XYZ college -- dates of attendance 1/1990 - 6/1993

XYZ college -- dates of attendance 1/2004 - 6/2007

Just kinda thought option 2 is easier to understand/read.

any opinions???

This is what I did. I haven't been verified for AACOMAS yet, but I did it this way for AMCAS and my application was verified (they also suggested that I split it up this way).

Good Luck :luck:
