What transcript forms? I just had my school mail an official transcript. No problems here...

Hello, from my impression, June and even July is still early. Most interviews and committees reviews are not offered/started until September. If you submit late, be ready with LOR's and essays to send in ASAP.

I requested them to be sent to AACOMAS without a form and they got there just fine too. As long as you put the right address you should be good.

Hey mekol07, the form is on AACOMAS website under the "Colleges attended" section. You can actually print it out and give it to the registrars office at your undergrad institutions. I didn't know it was a form either and I looked all over the website but not in the correct location. Oh well they are sent in already.

Oh, that is the first time I saw that form. Perhaps why it took a few extra days to show up as received? But it's all good now, just waiting for it to be mailed. They do mail without MCAT score, correct?

correct, mine have been mailed, and I won't get my score for a few days.

How do you know if your application has been verified? They put up my GPA today but my primary app hasn't been sent anywhere (plus I have 12 more days to wait on my MCAT scores). Is there a message or e-mail they send?

wow this is really happening...
i got an email from UNECOM that they received my AACPMAS😀
and that my apps will be put on hold untill they get my MCAT score🙁
10 more days....i am getting :scared::scared: now.
I was fine till now but the closer it is to the scores release i am getting a little bit more scared...

I know I saw a post about this somewhere before but I couldn't find it so sorry for the double posting ahead of time. I just trimmed my personal statement down and pasted it into the AACOMAS application. AACOMAS says the personal statement is 4497 characters at the bottom of the page, however, when I try to submit, it tells me the statement must be between 100-4500 characters incl. space. I don't understand why I'm getting these errors because my PS word count is definitely under the limit. AACOMAS is telling me the word count is 4497, not Word which is generally higher, to specify.

Ugh I just want to submit this thing and be done with it - please help! Did this happen to anyone else?

Holy Hell, YES! It happened to me too!

Basically, I figured out how many characters it would accept (so I deleted like the last word of my PS and counted how many characters that was). For some reason, it would not accept mine even though it said my PS was 4498 characters!!!!

Finally, I got it down to 4491 and it went through! I feel you though, hang in there! 😀

Thanks for the response! 4488 was the magic number for me - whatever, at least it's done 🙂

I shadowed a D.O. now I am shadowing both the MD (cardiologist) and DO (at the ER).

WOULD IT be okay to mention that I am currently shadowing an MD as well? would they smell this as "I AM NOT SURE if DO schools are right for me. I am applying to both MDs and DOs."?

definitely. it's still a clinical experience. DOs aren't everywhere, so of course we're going to shadow some MDs from time to time. most of the docs i've shadowed have been.

Totally agree. I had shadowing experience with both and it was never an issue. You're going to have MD and DO professors, and will eventually be doing clinicals with both.

WHAT? AN MD?

you are out of your mind. quit now.

Doc is a doc. Anyway u get clinical experience so show both of them.

I'm going to go ahead and answer myself here in case others also have this question - once you have a GPA posted, you're verified.

I got an e-mail response this morning about that. And my application will be sent out later this week or next 😀

My transcripts were sent 2.5wks ago, how long should I wait before I should worry about resending them?

Thanks.

I would wait about another week. Make sure AACOMAS has your social security number. Last year my transcripts as well as MCAT scores were not processed until I gave to AACOMAS.

You should definitely mention both. Both are great shadowing experiances. It is also showing schools that you have seen different fields in the medical profession which will work to your advantage.

snail mail?
email?

The status page has a collumn for "date mailed", so snail mail I assume.

actually, all schools are required to hire a "remote viewer" to accept applications...

This is why tuition is so expensive. The "viewers' give up lucrative careers as television psychics to work for the schools. 😀

I'm pretty sure there's also an electronic way that schools receive primaries as when I was applying my school was telling me that they have like weekly downloads from AACOMAS.

In date mailed it says (processed) for all the schools. Am I right to assume that means they were sent?

No, it means you're verified. It will change to "Mailed" when they're out the door.

So what's the cause for discrepancy? Ie, what is causing this gap between the status being processed and it being mailed? Also, how long did it take you for your date to change? My mailing date has said processed since 6/18! Thanks for any information as per your condition; it would help!

Nothing wrong with applying to both! Keep in mind that many people do apply to both and get into both. At the DO schools I interviewed at it came up in each one that I was applying to both DO and MD and I was honest and told them why. I still got in, so they clearly didn't hold it against me, just like they certainly won't hold a shadowing experience against you.

My primary app has already been mailed out and I am finishing Immunology this friday. Grade will be in by Monday afternoon. How do I go about updating this information so schools will see it? Do I go through my AACOMAS account, or do I have to mail updated transcripts to every school I applied to (19) which could get nasty expensive.

I have that same question as well. I just released my MCAT score to AACOMAS. Should I release them to all the schools I applied to as well?

guys...email AACOMAS with any questions! Don't waste time on SDN getting "maybe" the answer you looking for.
i emailed them 3 times with questions already and they always responded same or next business day.

i just asked them about it and they said that all i need to do is forewadr my official scores to them and that they will foreward them to my designated schools in the next weekly mailing. So it shouldn't take longer then 2 weeks to update all your schools with scores. At least now...later may get a little businer.
But i would still email them to make sure they've got your scores.
it never hurts to tripple check😀

oh man, I've done interviews at my school before, and there's NO way that I'd recommend an acceptance to anyone who even associates with an MD let alone shadows one. We had one guy who didn't mention it in his original application, but it came out during the interview that his father was an MD, we chased him out of there with our torches and pitchforks! the guy's lucky he made it out of the state before all us DO students got really organized!

haha... I just finished Step I yesterday, so I'm really punchy still... In all seriousness, it's totally fine to list it, in fact I'd bet the admissions department will like to see that you've been out shadowing no matter what the situation (MD/DO/PA/RN/PT/OT/EMT/Medic/Etc)...

i say you include both... I shadowed 2 DOs and an MD... one of the school's asked me about the different experiences I had shadowing a DO vs shadowing an MD...
I think it shows that you looked into both degrees and liked the idea of being a DO which makes your case stronger.

Hey,

I have shadowed two MDs and included both on my AMCAS. However, do you all think I should include them on the DO app? Will adcoms think I am leaning more that way that the DO pathway?

I have yet to shadow a DO however. I am not submitting my DO app until i shadow one so I can include it in the extracurric/activites thing.

Thanks in advance

Hello,
Under what category of the AACOMAS will either paid or unpaid research experience go? How about doctor shadowing? THANKS

Hello Everyone,
If one took Human Anatomy/Physiology I/II as a post-bac, but took Mammalian Anatomy and Mammalian Physiology as an undergrad, how do you think AMCAS and AMCOAS would classify them? As 4 separate courses or the same course (there by averaging them for AMCAS and replacing the higher grades for AMCOAS)? Thanks!

Well, they are always considered separate classes and listed separately, for both AMCAS and for AACOMAS. The difference lies in whether they are classified as repeats and how the GPA is calculated.

AMCAS would simply average them all together as four individual classes. If all were undergraduate classes, they would also be averaged into your undergraduate GPA. It's a no-brainer here.

AACOMAS, however, could potentially see them differently. The way it works is this: If you took say, A&P I and II in one school, but retook it at another, then they all would be classified as repeats. The retakes must be equivalent to each other for them to be considered repeats of one another. The later A&P I and II would count into the GPA calculation, while the first would not be included. This is taken care of by AACOMAS; you just need to list everything as it appears on your transcript and classify everything correctly.

It doesn't sound like mamm anatomy and mamm phys are equivalent to Human A&P I and II. They sound like different classes. Were mamm anatomy and mamm phys separate classes, or were they like mamm anatomy and phys I and II, like Human A&P I and II?

Mammalian Anatomy was taken in the Fall Semester and Mammalian Physiology was taken in the Spring Semester. According to the course description they are mostly human based but also compares mammals.

A/P 1 was taken in the Fall semester, A/P II in the Spring semester at a different college. Thank you for posting. What do you think?

I forgot to mention that there is a "repeat" classification for AMCAS. So, you could potentially have to use that classification for this series of classes with no real consequence to your calculated GPA. You would need to contact AAMC to find out what to do in terms of classification. I don't know if these classes you are talking about are equivalent to each other and how it should be classified. It's not entirely clear to me.

Same goes for the AACOMAS. I'm not sure about the equivalency between the classes. You'd really do well to contact AACOM and ask them how you should proceed with the series of classes that mentioned.

Good luck.

It doesn't sound like there is equivalency here. I am leaning toward thinking of them as four separate and individual classes, not as repeats. That said, I'd suggest contacting the AAMC and also AACOM for a more definitive answer.
