Hey all,

I got a letter from Greenville yesterday... interviewed in early October and got a snail mail letter saying they "won't be able to offer me a seat in the class entering in Fall 2007." Truth be told, it's not a surprise (I went to undergrad out of state and myriad other reasons) nor am absolutely devastated ( it's a *great* program but I knew I didn't fit their specific mission) but just thought I'd post to let you guys know those kind of responses are going out!

I'm still REALLY hoping to hear some positive results from UNC, so here's for hopeful thinking... c'mon heels!

Good luck to everybody-- hope 2007 is treating you guys well! :luck:

My secondary application was completed back in August. I called them yesterday and found out that they have made a decision last week. The person who answered the phone told me that they will inform me the decision soon in the next few days. I wonder if this mean that I am rejected? I searched for UNC invites and looked like they inform people by phone... Just wondering if anyone receive interview invites via different methods? btw, I am an OOS applicant so the chances are very slim..... but I would love to move to NC if given the chance... 😳

Could go either way for you - UNC has been slow-ish about things with me. As for the interview, first they sent me an email to let me know they would be contacting me soon about my interview. Then, they called to schedule it....

So what happens when/if all 40 show up?

i guess they would just have to accept them for that one time, and then decide to accept fewer the next year

I'm sure it never gets to that point, I'm sure they hand out the first 20 acceptances and don't give out anymore until one of those accepted withdraws. If its something madated by the state its not something schools want to mess around with.

I would think they hand out 20 acceptances, if less than 20 matriculate --- more NC residents get to come.

I discussed this with my interviewer because I am having residency troubles and it appears that they only have 20 OOS matriculant spots which they intend to fill with OOSers. I think if you look in the reference books you will see that the numbers are pretty stable year to year.
They handout 40 acceptance offers to OOSers so that 20 can matriculate.
They may do it slowly, i.e defer decisions or waitlist, but it appears its 40/20.

For the people who got accepted to Wake Forest, you know how the letter directs the accepted applicants to send a written acceptance of the offer. I was wondering whom did you guys e-mail to:

1. Wake Forest Admissions office
2. The associate dean of admissions

Thanks!

I am interviewing this Monday at UNC. Do any of you have any advise or anything?
Thanks 🙂

Good luck to those waiting for UNC to call today!

Good luck to everyone waiting on UNC! Does anyone know if applicants who interviewed the first week of december will come up today? I wrote a LOI last week so I am hoping that might move my file forward...

I think that most people that interviewed in November still haven't heard... so I'd give yourself a few more weeks for December. I interviewed on Nov 14.

Yeah, looking at the mdapplicants site i don't think i will hear anything until feb. what is going on at ECU? I've been complete for months- I am an NC resident so I can't believe that they won't offer me an interview.

My AMCAS was complete on 12/04/06. Any idea when I might expect a secondary (if at all) from UNC? Also, how long does it take for ECU to offer interviews after secondaries?

Thanks,
S.

Good luck to all the UNC waiters, myself included! Welcome bac 2DEG, where've you been?

Hey jwnduke..

Good to see you here. I was so much addicted to SDN. I intentionally didn't come to this site for a while - and I was heartbroken to be honest with you for not getting in last year. And since mid August, I have been super busy - with our second kid. This year, I have applied to UNC and ECU only. I am hoping to take MCAT in May and then apply for 2008 in 10+ schools.

What's your situation? Any luck this year? Have you been accepted anywhere..? I would love to see you getting an acceptance this year.

Best wishes.
S.

Congratulations on the second kid! That is exciting news. I understand your feelings about last year, it is tough to face applying again.

This has been a good year for me! I have been accepted to Univ. South Carolina, so I definately have a place to go in the fall! I am still hoping for UNC or Wake; I would like to stay in the area.

I am taking off in March to hike Appalachian Trail before school starts, but I hope to hear some good news from you before I leave!

Looks like another ringless day for me... Anyone notice that UNC's website isn't even working today? Sigh...

Don't count it as ringless yet, Sud. I think the committee does not meet until the evening, and I think calls go out after that, so say 8 PM or so. I did not notice that about the website, I wonder what's up with that?

Definitely ringless. 6-8 weeks... HA. Argh. These people are making me crazy!!!

OK, safe to call it ringless for both of us at this point... Did anyone hear from UNC last night?

No call here either.. just hoping there isn't a rejection letter in the mail. Next week makes it 8.

Going on week 11 for me, and I haven't gotten a letter yet, so you're safe for at least a couple of weeks. 🙂 I am TERRIFIED of my mailbox.

I just got a call this morning delivering good news from UNC. I was interviewed on Nov. 14, so the acceptance came in my 11th week or so. For those still waiting, I wouldn't give up hope just yet, as I repeatedly hear that UNC usually waits until the end of interviews to give the final evaluation to all of their applicants. Good luck guys, and thanks for all the information that helped throughout the process!

PS Sud, were you the other Dukie interviewing there on the 14th?

Hi
Just wondering if people know if Duke put people on hold pre-interview? my secondary applicatoin was completed since September and it is still "under review" on my status page.... thanks. 🙂

I just got a call from my UNC interviewer with good news!

congrats guys! out of curiosity and b/c im still waiting, were you guys in-state or OOS? thanks

Congrats to both of you! That is so exciting!!!! i was pretty happy to see that you interviewed 11/28.. maybe the early december apps are up next week?

God, I hope so. I'm starting to get worried cause I'm going on my 9th week, but from what you all are saying it seems like they just got behind from holidays. Well, good luck to all of next week's other waiters.

Congrats to both of you! Awesome for you, scary for me... but no letters in the mailbox, so that is good! 🙂 At least now I KNOW I'm not going to hear anything for a long time, so I can stop freaking out every Monday!

Congrats to those who were recently accepted to UNC!!!!

Quick question on the interviews - did you research the people who were interviewing you ahead of time? I did a search, but was unable to find out as much information as I would like.

Thanks for the help!!!

I was not able to find too much information about my interviewers. For one of them I found a page linked from his department's page that had some biographical information and a list of recent publications. I don't think it helped much, though. Good luck!

To answer an earlier question, I am an in-stater.

There's a computer in the interview waiting room when you get there that has a kind of slide show about the school. If you follow that to the end it cycles through all the interviewers giving a breif biological sketch about them. To be honest though, the vast majority of schools give you interviews without telling you anythying about your interviewer, and unless you find something rediculous in common, knowing a lot about them is probably not going to help you. If you want to know more about them, you could always ask in the interview . . . you have to have some questions anyway, and its probably more interesting than asking stuff about the school that you already know!

I did research my interviewers pretty extensively before my UNC interview. I was surprised by how much we had in common and thought I could use the background to start some interesting conversation. I can't say that I really used it that much- i wish i had focused on researching programs at the school and polishing my talking points instead. its good to know who they are and where they are coming from, but don't give it too much time. definitley go through the slide show in the room first! there are some good quotes on there that you can use to talk about what you like about the school.

Congrats everyone!!!!
I also researched my interviewers. I was only able to find info on my faculty interviewer. I did have some of the same interests and had a chance toward the end of the interview to ask about some of her research. The interview was already in that direction so we had a really good conversation - I was actually kind of bummed that we couldn't continue to talk. She had to catch a flight and commented that she could sit and talk with me for hours about the subject. I was already thinking UNC was going to my top choice, but that interview really clinched it for me.

Rottiesrock (love the username, by the way)-

I had the same experience! Except for the catching a flight part. I walked out of my basic science faculty interview totally psyched to (hopefully) get to come back in 2007 and talk with him again (he teaches in the first year curriculum).

Alas, I interviewed in the 2nd week of November as well and haven't heard anything yet. Starting to lose hope... it's painful!

Tell me about it! I was there at the end of October and was counting the weeks. Finally, I just decided to take it as no new is good news - at least I haven't received the thin envelope. We have to think positive!!!!

Thanks for the username compliment. The pic is of my two babies a few years ago. They are silly wannabe lap dogs!!

i just got an email from UNC saying that i am still under "active consideration" and no decision has been made regarding my application. what does that mean?!!! i am really upset... the email says i might not hear until the spring. does anyone have any input?

welcome to the club

UNC told me a few months back that I'd def. have an interview and to give them time to figure out the date. Today they rejected me. Hmm.

Hum. I am OOS and completed my secondary since Sept. I never got the "active consideration" email. I called them last week and they told me that a final decision is made but I still have not received anything. this is so confusing..

I am very sorry what happened. 🙁 Could I ask how they informed you? I am probably going to get the same thing.... *sigh*

I got the active consideration email but I was surprised they said anything. My app should not be reviewed until after my residency hearing next week. So I guess that there could be reasons that y'alls apps haven't been seen to yet.

TPRorgo- did they reject you via email or snail mail? Sorry about that but I will most likely be right there with you in a week or two.

I got the same email as Blue24:

The Admissions Committee is reviewing your application, but no final decision has been made. You will remain under active consideration and will be notified as soon as a decision has been reached. Unfortunately, because of rolling admissions, this process may not be completed until the spring, do not despair.

The way I see it, they examined a pool of applicants earlier this week. A few were invited (congrats to them!) and others received this email. I guess some got rejections, too? I don't know what to think, except that it seems that if those of us who received this email were reviewed and not accepted, our chances of getting that acceptance will decline with every meeting of the committee. 🙁

wait, i'm confused, are both pre- and post-interview people getting this "you're in limbo" email?

I'm post-interview if that helps and got the active consideration email.
