It really seems like there's substantially greater amounts of people with higher GPAs worried about their acceptances to dental school than any of the previous years. I mean, i've spent several days reading much of the forums, and the 3.5 that was considered excellent in the recent past is now considered "alright" by many a critics. The <3.0 club is essentially shot down. My buddy who got accepted in the 2006 cycle had told me that a 3.1 with decent DAT scores was pretty much smooth sailings as long as you applied early.. but the general commentary from last year to now has shown the upward trend in the "you probably need to work on..." department - anyone else think so?

i think its getting damn tough and the average GPA will only go up, the lifestyle/salary has alot to do with this,... as many gunners see a light at the end of the tunnel with dentistry

Relax a bit. Competition to all professional schools comes in cycles. During the past 4-5 years there has been an upward trend in competition, with competition peaking last year. This year may very well prove to be THE peak year (up even more from last year), but it may very well be a downward trend year. Anyone who says they KNOW this year will be even more competitive is LYING. Sure, many people on this board will have anecdotal evidence that they know several more people who are applying this year vs. last, or they know many people with improved stats. This proves nothing. Only time will tell how competitive the 2007 cycle is.

i think it's definitely getting tougher to get into d-schools, but the number of applicants is still not as high as it was in the late 70's. but gpa's and DAT scores have gone up and will probably not go down anytime soon. but keep in mind that the people on these forums right now are all of the over-achiever types and you'll see a lot more "normal" gpa's and DAT scores over the next few months as more and more people get into the application process.

naw, there are still people like you who have worked hard but for some reason are embarrassed to post their grades. Kudos to you.

Most of the people that come here want to SHINE and love posting about themselves. Be diligent and you will get in. If not this year then improve and reapply! Nose to the grindstone!
