Wake forest came up fine for me but all it says is...

Your primary application from AMCAS has been received. It is being evaluated and you will be sent an e-mail notification of your status within 1-2 weeks.

Sorry if someone already posted this. U of WI just has the following essay:

Optional Essay

Keeping in mind the Admissions Committee's goal that the supplemental information is to gain additional insight into the applicant as an individual and as a whole person, what additional information, if any, do you wish to provide the Admissions Committee that may be important in the evaluation of your candidacy? You may include anything in this essay that you feel is relevant.

For example, many applicants have encountered various challenges in their backgrounds (e.g., coming from a low-income family, having to work a large number of hours per week while going to college, experiencing educational disadvantages in their pre-college years, following an unusually difficult course of study, changes in schools, time away from school, having a privileged background and providing extensive service, etc.). The Admissions Committee takes many factors into consideration when assessing performance. If your path to medicine has not been direct, please elaborate. If you feel that you have encountered significant disadvantages and would like the Admissions Committee to take them into consideration, you are invited (not required) to provide this additional information. (Limit response to 500 words.)

Re-applicant Essay

Individuals who are reapplying are required to submit a statement indicating what has changed since the previous application (e.g., additional academic work, new letters of evaluation, work or volunteer experience, etc.). (Limit response to 500 words.)

Letter of Recommendations:

To complete this section, you need at least 3 academic and 1 non-academic letter writers OR 1 academic letter writer, 1 pre-professional committee letter and 1 non-academic letter writer.

Letters may be submitted individually or in a single packet either electronically or via postal mail or a combination thereof.

Since not everyone seems to get stuff at once, I'm wondering if anyone reading this thread has gotten any info from the following schools:

Albany
Cornell
Dartmouth
Drexel
Duke
Einstein
Emory
Loyola
Mayo
Mt. Sinai
NYMC
NYU
Northwestern
Stanford
Temple
Tufts
Tulane
UCLA
UCSF
USC

Anything?

if someone did, there would have been a thread about them already...No need to worry yourself yet.

It's becoming difficult to follow this thread...

Everybody posts in a different format and sometimes omits information.

When you receive a secondary that is NOT ALREADY ON THE LIST, please PM (Private Message) me with the essay prompts, the LOR requirements, and the URL to the website. I will update it on this thread as well as make a school-specific thread.

If there is a school on the list but it's missing a URL, Prompt, or LOR requirements, please PM me the missing information so that I can update it.

With so many secondaries becoming available, its nearly impossible to extract all the relevant information from the dozens and dozens of posts on this thread, so the best way to get information to me is to PM me.

Also, I recommend taking the school-specific discussion to the school-specific threads, and leaving this thread for more general questions about secondaries. This will hopefully help to make this one easier to follow.

Good luck everyone!

This is turning out to be pretty intense... 10 done, 26 more to go 😱

Well maybe fewer .. some schools screen 🙂 So 23-24 more to worry about.. for now

Seriously. 15/44 complete and 15/16 complete of the available schools.

I am sure I will get screened out of a few schools, so, we'll see what happens.

Oh my ...

And I thought I was on the ball for having finished 6... 😳

How different do the descriptions for these need to be from the original AMCAS work/activities section? I realllyy don't want to have write whole new in-depth descriptions of this shizz

is there any point in submitting the secondaries asap if my mcat score and rec letters won't even be ready until at least mid-late august? (although i've gotten secondaries from quite a bit of schools a few weeks ago already...)

I copied and pasted the exact wording from my AMCAS for now. Re-wording my descriptions for the sake of it sounding new seems useless, and I hope the adcom understands that.

It says in the faq that they want it re-listed for analysis purposes...some bargraph. I have nothing new to add.

Let me know if you end up changing yours. I'm holding on pushing "send" unit I get 1 more LOR.

Okay, awesome. I'm adding a couple more sentences to some of the activities but leaving others as is. I really hate when make us sound unavoidably redundant in our apps!

So I'm wondering if the downloadable secondary for albert einstein is current or not because it says 2008 entering class...should I just start filling it out or wait until I get an email from them?? Anyone else looking into this?

Well geez, 15/16 is amaaaazing. I'm currently at 50% (7/14 with 20 outstanding). Granted three of those were of the just-give-us-the-money variety...

I'm not sure how you people can apply to so many schools (over 20). My advisor looked at me in horror when I told her I was applying to 17. My summer's worth of work is going down the drain paying for these secondaries and such, I just can't imagine paying any more than I am now. 6 down so far, and to be honest, this process (other than the cost) hasn't been bad at all. 🙂

I'm considering ditching duke, which used to be my top 3 school, the thought of writing 6 essays that have no limits is kinda ewww. I know this is how they weed some of us out, but still...

Eh, don't not apply to one of your favorite schools just because you have to write 6 essays. We're gonna have to do stuff that's a lot "worse" when we're in medical school, residency and beyond...

At the most, it takes a few... hours...or days... of your time. But it's just a one time hoop to jump through.

I'm currently at 6/7, 7 outstanding (14 total schools).
I'm dragging my feet on U Mich because of the auto-interview, so there's no time pressure. As for the rest, I figure I might as well just sit myself down and crank out the secondaries as quickly as possible because applying to med school's something that I'm only going to do once so I might as well give it my all.

*sigh* It's not so bad. It's a little draining after awhile. But going to clinic on Saturday was refreshing and reminded me about why I'm doing all of this in the first place.

Gotta stay positive. 🙂

Good luck to everybody!!

On a secondary application I am filling out it asks you to give examples of community service projects. I have a few, but I was wondering whether or not I could talk about my experience in Boy Scouts, helping younger scouts and earning my Eagle. I did this in high school, and I'm not sure whether or not it is applicable? Advice anyone?

If it were me, I would focus on community service projects during college instead of high school.

insane....how do you amazing people even manage to get 30 secondaries

ive got 6 secondaries. mere six. after submitting 50 apps. how embarrassing 😱

hehe but please, go on being amazing people 👍

i just got a u michigan interview offer, but i haven't filled out their secondary yet. In fact, I haven't filled out any secondaries yet. so does this mean I should fill out my umich one last?

Did anyone else receive this?
Have they marked the letters as received for you?

Tnx.

Dear Applicant,

We are contacting you because you have attended at least one school that uses VirtualEvals to provide letters of evaluation / recommendation to medical schools.

As AMCAS is currently working with VirtualEvals to test electronic letter receipt, if you have requested that letters be sent to AMCAS via VirtualEvals those letters will currently appear in AMCAS as "not received". Letters made available to AMCAS via VirtualEvals will appear as received in AMCAS once our testing phase is complete, on or about July 8, 2008. At that time, you will receive an email informing you that the letter has been marked as received. You can also check the status by logging into your AMCAS application.

Please note that, although these letters will not be available via AMCAS until our testing with VirtualEvals is complete, medical schools can log directly into VirtualEvals to download such letters at any time; as such, this will not result in delayed consideration of your application materials. Please note also that this will not affect the verification of your application.

Please let us know if you have further questions by contacting us at (202) 828 0600.

Sincerely,

AMCAS

I remember looking at it a while ago but seeing something about how you should fill it out after they give you an email invite.

Anyone else experiencing a lull in secondary apps? I got 6 on 7/1 & 7/2 and not a peep since. Still waiting to hear from 8 schools.

I remember looking at it a while ago but seeing something about how you should fill it out after they give you an email invite.

AE's application is not ready. For our entering class, it will read 2009 on the top right corner. If you carefully read the questions on the currently uploaded app, you will notice that it was for last year's class.
I am waiting too. 🙂
They are one of the later ones, along with Duke and Emory.

Cornell is out!

If you are not attending college during the 2008-9 academic year, what are your plans? Please limit your statement to less than 200 words.

Please write a brief statement giving your reasons for applying to Weill Cornell Medical College. Please limit your statement to less than 200 words.

NYMC is kind of up. They emailed me the username and password, but when I log in it says that the Secondary will not be online until July 21st. Did this happen to anyone else?

Just got a Carver email saying they will begin screening pre-secondary mid-July...

Got an email from Emory a while ago...their secondary won't be up until late July.
Heard that Loyola does everything by snail mail, so it could take awhile.

I got an email this morning saying that they will begin screening in mid-July.

edit: oops, you beat me seven87!

I got the same email, and the same thing happened to me. I guess we have to wait until 7/21/2008 🙁

I got the NYMC email also. Only good thing is that I'll have $100 in my bank account by then so I don't have to use my CC.

Yeah, I've only been acknowledged by BU. I was verified yesterday and sort of expected to get several from the schools that don't prescreen, but apparently most of the schools on my list aren't the ones that send a supplemental invite immediately when AMCAS distributes. I am getting so good at waiting, so very glad for all this practice. 😉

Do you have to enter the activities chronologically or does it automatically do it for you?

Hey, for everyone who thinks that BU just might be having tech issues similar to GW a couple weeks ago, please call or email BU about it, b/c when I called they blew me off just b/c they said it's the first they've heard of the problem....so if more people let them know then maybe they'll actually check and see

Activities

Provide a chronological history of your life activities from the time you completed high school to the present, i.e. volunteer work, service work, research, participation in music, sports, etc., parenting, et al.

Q: Why is there a life experiences and activities section on the secondary application? Didn't I already provide this information in my AMCAS application?

A: Information about life activities is requested on our secondary application. It does parallel that on the AMCAS application. However, this information on our secondary is designed to provide a chronological listing of your life activities and experiences when it is viewed by reviewers. It provides a bar graph listing activities over time. Therefore, be sure to give a full accounting of life experiences since completing high school. In addition, the secondary allows you the opportunity to expand or add dimension to the accounting in the AMCAS application. We are aware that there is likely to be repetition.

I assume they don't. Check the FAQs as well.

I called and it will automatically generate the bar graph for them chronologically so enter as you please.

Just got an email from UPitt inviting me to complete their secondary application.

Describe a personal experience which resulted in a substantial moral or ethical dilemma. What was the outcome? We are reluctant to accept assertions that you have never encountered such a situation. Please do not address cheating in an academic setting.

The recruitment of a diverse student body is a major goal of the University of Pittsburgh's Medical School Admissions Committee. Please tell us whether facets of your life, background or education to date would contribute to the achievement of this goal.

You mean AMCAS generates a chronological bar graph of all of our activities? How come we don't get to see it 😡.
