Based on 2007 admissions data, they accepted 232 students overall, or 33% of the students interviewed. Pretty much regardless of in state or out of state, female, or minority, the stats kinda linger between 0.33 and 0.305 so yeah, maybe slightly less than 1 in 3 odds but still not awful.

It sounded like previous reports were that there was a big batch coming out at the end of February (though the date seems kinda fluid)...I wouldn't imagine this is the big batch though because 232 is a fairly large number and it being the "big batch"...I'd expect a fair number of people to find out...not just one or two.

Hm you bring up good points. I guess the only way to find out is for koalabear09 (or funkydrmonkey) to go down there and actually ask. If somebody wants to post the phone number (one that they will actually pick up) I will call.

My lab is exactly 2 minutes away (I timed it😀) but I already went last week...:scared:

Come on funkydr, I would think that persistency would be admired. As for this accetpance batch, I am a little suspicious about the acceptances posts since it appears that there aren’t many (yet..) and the posters have limited number of posts. Also, assuming that the AdComs met last weekend (lets say Friday or Saturday), shouldn’t it take longer for applicants to receive their status in the mail as post offices were closed last Sunday and Monday.

I am actually gonna go past the admissions office to get to the tissue culture room, since I have to do my transfection, but I am afraid...😳

One of the posters said that the letter was sent on 2/13 which was a Friday, so the adcom probably met before then...

Haha understandable but unreal man. Just because people don't post doesn't mean they don't follow. Ppl aren't out to get you on here. 🙂

Edit: [Erased who I was since apparently who I am offended someone]

The letter consists of two pages. The first one is the acceptance and the 2nd talks about the 5k scholarship. Need any more info to verify? lol

Call up Dr. Jimenez and ask him if he is the only responsible person on the committee since 5 months is (apparently) an insufficient time span for an idiotic government institution like UCLA to be able to arrange a meeting that works for both people discussing your file.

He is just trying to show that he is a real person. I don't think he means anything else by his posting his credentials. It is just that UCLA is soooo annoying in their lack of transparency, that we get snippy with each other out of generalized frustration.
Congratulations to the recent acceptees and here's to a whole lot more soon!!

I guess he can speak for himself. Sorry.
Also, don't know if he is a he or a she. Don't want to sound sexist.

i will try my best to stop by the admissions office by the end of today or tomorrow... and also try not to faint if they tell me what i don't want to hear.

So, people who have gotten in... CONGRATS! You don't need to ID yourself, i don't need social security numbers, just bask in the glory of your awesomeness.

People still waiting (like me) don't trip, I met an MS1 on my interview day at UCLA whose interviewer lost his interview notes and ended up calling the (now) MS1 a few months after the interview to re-interview him on the phone. He ended up getting accepted during the summer. I know waiting blows (4+ months wtf?) but crazier stuff has happened.

If it makes you feel any better about your status, my interviewer kept almost falling asleep the whole interview so you're prolly in a better position than I am

Hrm...my interviewer also almost fell asleep. I hope that's just common for UCLA interviewer's so that I can freak out less about that aspect. Either that, or they were legitimately just bored.

Hahaha sounds like my inteviewer too.. Dr. Homesher?

Nope mine was Dr. Clyman. He also didn't look at me the entire time cuz he was so into writing down every word I said. I actually know this other guy whose interviewer literally fell asleep during the interview. Like completely asleep and then my friend had to wake him up. He actually got in though lol so maybe the sleepy interviewers write great recommendation letters.

The posts are real. I checked for my friend who is out of town, and he also had "letter sent" as his status.

My status was updated saying letter sent 2/13/09....I interviewed December 10th and I'm an Out-of-State applicant.

I received my letter of acceptance today!!!! Omg so excited!

I also received a letter saying I was awarded a $5000 scholarship. Is this the same thing they did last year where they gave all MS1 students $5000? It said it was a "special scholarship" awarded on the basis of merit. Do any of the other accepted people know about this?

CONGRATS to everyone! Good news is on the way I'm sure!

This probably was the big batch of acceptances. The rest of us get the big batch of rejection/waitlsit (that doesnt move=also rejection) this week!

So I caved in and went to the admissions office...

They said that so far these three batches have been acceptances only, and there should be a big batch of all decisions coming in the next few weeks. I was told to just wait, and that LOIs are welcome. And they prefer if you give a hard copy since it has your signature.

Congrats! The $5000 scholarship is the one that everyone gets.

Lolz yep. All decisions=rejections/waitlists.

And now tis the next few weeks eh? Sigh.

LOI = letter of intent?

well "all decisions" could really mean "all decisions." It depends if UCLA is sending out ALL of their acceptances separate from the waitlists/rejections.

Be realistic, why have 4 separate acceptance-only batches just to send out "all the rest" with the other decisions. Seriously doubt that one.

Funkydrmonkey, when you asked, did it sound like they were done with acceptances for all people who had interviewed up to that point? Or did it sound like there could be more acceptances in the "all decisions." I am assuming waitlist/rejection.

Man what a bummer.. does this mean that anybody without a status update is in for a rejection/waitlist letter after today? The ONLY med school I wanted to go to was UCLA, but it looks like it will never happen. I guess they want me to go somewhere else since I've already been here for four years.

One last time: **** you UCLA.

They are still going to give more acceptances... how many more though... I am not sure🙁

Count me among the slain. I didn't get a status update either. Well congrats to all those who were accepted today and enjoy your newfound opportunity.

hmmm....has anyone gotten a letter BEFORE their status page was updated? This time or previous batch dates?

got the letter today! really excited because i wasn't sure how my interview went. woooo!

so those who got in, what are you doing about this 2 week deadline thing? ucla's one of my top choices, but i am waiting to hear from some other schools and finaid is a huge decision maker for me. is the acceptance we give completely binding?

I guess it doesn't explicitly say on the letter, but I can't imagine that it would be binding. Congrats!

Is there some sort of pattern to these acceptances? It seems like two people said they interviewed in December and just got in. Have the batches so far been based on when a person interviewed? If so, maybe they are taking the cream of the crop right now, from each part of the interview season, and then they're waiting to send out all the rest of the decisions based on how things shake up....And I just realized how obvious that sounds now. Oh well, just something I've been thinking to keep my dreams alive.

Oh man! That was my interviewer too.. all he wanted to do is talk about research this research that. He asked me a few times why I wanted an MD instead of PhD.

Maybe the decision does depend on the interviewer cuz a friend of mine(with really impressive stats, ie, a Harvard acceptance) and I both had him as an interviewer(my friend in November and myself in December), and we both havent heard anything yet.

Im starting to think I got screwed in my UCLA interview. My original interviewer cancelled on me 5 minutes before my interview and I ended interviewing with Dr. Homsher as a substitute. I think that really hurt me because UCLA interviews are open file and Dr. Homsher volunteered at the last minute, so he knew nothing about my app. Thus, he kept grilling me on my lack of research and my Wall Street gig, which I dont think he approved of, but I really couldnt get a good read of him(he has a great poker face 🙂).

Btw, did anyone else that interviewed with him have experiences where he kept asking questions, but then would interrupt you as you started answering the original question with any other question? My interview ended up being so disorganized and long........

didn't know that harvard already gave out acceptances, i thought they were non-rolling?

Sorry, my mistake, meant interview. However, he already got a couple top 20 acceptances. I was just trying to make the point that he was very qualified.

crap =( if this is true, i'll be so sad =(

First-time poster here, so hi all!

More about acceptances, especially for late interviewers...

I interviewed at UCLA about, oh, 3 weeks ago. I called the admissions office inquiring about decisions up to this point and, understandably, some applicants are still being reviewed by the Committee.

I imagine this would apply more for late interviewers, but I say this to dispel rumors that all admissions decisions from here on out are only rejections or waitlistings. It could simply be that the adcom is still going through your file.

I hope so, but for some of us, it has been 2-4 months of nothing.

Which is why I feel like all of us who have been waiting for so long without a decision are doomed to the waitlist. Of course this doesn't apply to people who have interviewed in the new year.

I know that I said I wouldn't post again until April, but I just checked my status, and it says final decision sent today. Looks like I may be the first waitlist of the season.

Everyone else please check to see if your status changed too....

I just called the admissions office, and they said they just started sending out all final decisions today including post interview waitlists.
