woahhhh. i got a message on my cell from UCLA asking if i could interview next week. I dont think I can, or even anytime in Sept (the whole month is booked with an experiment i HAVE to be there for, and other interviews 🙁). I care about UCLA more than any otehr school I have interviews for, but all the tickets are booked!

Are the acceptances chances about the same for interviews on, say, Sept 10 vs Oct 10?

Wow, they must really want you. 😀 The website says they don't start interviewing until October and they want to interview you next week??? Super jealous. UCLA is my #1 school.

where on their website does it say that?

i was browsing it and couldnt find that, but i found this:

For the 2007 entering freshman class, first offers of acceptance were mailed from the Admissions Office on January 15, 2007. The remainder of the class is filled after that period.

That makes it sound like Sept 10th vs Oct 10th is a really minimal difference.

congrats on the interview invites! hope there are many more in this thread!

oh! weird. Maybe they were ready earlier than expected, and they're just starting in sept?

Nah, I think they really want to snap you up first. Your app is insane so I can't blame them.

i can only pray that that's true, i would LOVE to go to ucla!!

Though I looked on their website, and it says that their first acceptances go out on Jan 15th =(

thats pretty late snapping!

You know we'll probably be seeing you with an acceptance in October. 😛

omg that'd be amazing, but I doubt they'd bend the rules for anyone. that'd save me so much money in plane tickets though, as ucla is pretty darn high on my list 😀

i'll keep my fingers crossed!

i called, and they said there was no difference between sept and oct interviews, and that the first acceptances would be given out around jan 15th. good luck getting interviews! =)

PRIME is out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀

Just got mine too. Only 2 weeks to complete. I'm on it!

If it is of any interest to you fellow PRIMErs, I just called the admissions personal to get statistics on the application process:

*these are numbers from last year
1000 Primaries Received
300 Secondaries Granted
250 Secondaries Received
78 Interviewed
18 Matriculated/Accepted (she didn't specify a difference but I assume that is matriculated)

Good Luck!

Hey, thanks for posting the admissions stats! So, assuming a 50% yield rate, I have about a 10% chance of being accepted, since I got my secondary. That's better odds than I've got anywhere else right now.

I got mine too!!! I am really surprised cuz I thought I was going to get screened out. Do we only select one program?

Hey! Does anyone know the answer to any of these three questions about the UCLA Secondary?

- what is considered a "non-academic activity" - would volunteering with a school's organization serving the homeless count? Or are they talking more about a hobby or sport? From the question, "Describe involvement in the ONE most important non-academic activity that has been important in your life?"

- The following questions is under the "Scholastic" section: "What is the ONE most important honor you have received? Why do you view this as important?" Since the question under the scholastic section, does the award need to be academic, or can it be a community service or leadership award?

- About the problem, do you think they are trying to get at something serious (or is that covered by hardship?) or can it be a simple problem, that was short-lived that you worked through? From the question, "Describe a problem in your life. Include how you dealt with it and how it influenced your growth."

Thank you!! 🙂

I will try!

Any volunteer activity should be fine, so I think you're topic would work.

- The following questions is under the "Scholastic" section: "What is the ONE most important honor you have received? Why do you view this as important?" Since the question under the scholastic section, does the award need to be academic, or can it be a community service or leadership award?
You have a lot of leeway with this question. Again, you should be fine talking about any award you have received.

- About the problem, do you think they are trying to get at something serious (or is that covered by hardship?) or can it be a simple problem, that was short-lived that you worked through? From the question, "Describe a problem in your life. Include how you dealt with it and how it influenced your growth."
This one I think is more specific to something serious, I think. I don't think it would be appropriate to treat this question as a "how did you overcome a problem" type thing.

I agree with jgberken's response.

Thank you so much to both of you, jgberken and UCLAstudent!

Hey, some more questions about the UCLA secondary, anyone know?

for the courses section, when we have to check off as "completing" the different requirements, do I have to click "no" if I am finishing the course requirement this semester?

Thanks! 🙂

I called and asked. If its not COMPLETED then check no - even if you are enrolled right now.

Not sure about Spanish, though.

So I'm not sure if this has been answered, but SR = C in UCLA's case?

Holy crap! UCLA interview invite! You have no idea how excited I am. Talk about some Alma Mata love! They called me too, so nice😀

Got my UCLA invite this afternoon! I'm so excited! AECOM came today too, but it was definitely overshadowed..

They are sending out interviews!??! ugh I have GOT to finish this secondary. What is wrong with me?!?! I got burned out from the earlier ones I guess 🙁 Ahhhh I just want to be done!

Thanks guys for making me feel like a big slacker

so im calling bull**** on UCLA not giving any preference to ISers.

I have no idea but I got an interview invite today as an OOSer.
o..well congrats
it just seems like the ratio of IS/OOS applicants is like 1 to 1...yet most of the ppl with interviews now are Cali.

Nina, you're not the only one!! I am busting my butt to get this shiz out on Monday!! Luckily they already have my LORS so hopefully I will have their fake "complete" status next week.

hey out of curiosity, are the invites by email or by snail mail?

Hey,

Just wanted to know if anybody else has this problem: I had letters/secondary requested by UCLA on 7/29 and I sent them both in like very early August. My status page since then has not changed. It still shows "Letters Requested 7/29" and nothing else. I don't know if I am on the right track but looking through the forum I am getting the idea that unless you get an interview then they don't really give you any word that your secondary/letters were received. Just wanted to make sure this was the case. Thanks in advance =).

My status page says "Received" under Status and the date it was received under Date of Action. Hope that helps..

Yeah, that is not normal. If it helps, I had asked my career center to send my packet on 8/29, and it came back with an "undeliverable" notice on 9/9. Apparently I had typed in the wrong address (?). I am a really anal person about this stuff and pride myself on checking the addressing 12918049810 times before submitting, so either it was really late at night OR they had the wrong address on their site (anyone say paranoia?, lol). So I had them re-send out the packet on 9/10 and it was received 9/20. So long story short, their admissions office is not that slow in entering stuff, so I would go with the safe route and have your letters sent again. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies, looks like I'll be asking my LOR service to resend my letters =/. That really sucks that the first packet got lost or something.

Anybody else get a secondary today? I submitted my primary in early/mid-June... so this one came as a [pleasant] surprise?

Did anyone get an interview invite this week? If so, when were you all complete?

How about... who got an interview within the last two weeks, and when were you complete?

Go under admissions process timeline on the side menu.

Interviews granted:
Earliest date: October 2008

I guess the website is wrong because we had students interviewing here last week.

On a side note, I'm MS1 at UCLA, so if you have questions about UCLA send me a PM and I'll respond. I don't browse these boards much, so PM would be the best for me.

Good luck to everyone.
