So have there been any subsequent batches yet?? Has there only been ONE batch of UCLA secondaries? .... as in, everyone who has gotten their secondary, has gotten it on the same day?

I haven't yet gotten a secondary, but my app was received after that first batch day, on Aug 2.

i just got my 2ndary today [i was verified aug. 13th]

I have not yet taken a full year of math, but am taking my final semester of it this semester (starting Monday). So should I click "no" because I haven't completed it yet, or "yes" because I'm in the process of completing it?

Call and ask just to make sure. When you interview, they ask you to fill out a form updating them on classes (maybe grades too) so they will eventually find out.

Anyone else receive a secondary today or any other day? So there have been 2 batches? one today and one on July 30?

They received all of my LOR's, now I guess it's just another waiting game grrrr....and hey is there a typo in the MSAR or is the tuition free for Cali residents and only $12,245 for non-residents...seems like a typo lol, although the non-residents fees are $20,576. Not sure what to make of that...

There is no in state tuition, but *everyone* pays ~$20,000 in "fees." OOSers pay their 13k tuition on top of that.

anyone got a secondary recently?

I am also wondering if they are sending out secondaries in batches or if it's more sporadic. I've been waiting on UCLA since that first batch. I wish my alma mater would show me some love already.

 nice username.

Ahaha, yeah - I'm still waiting on that UCLA secondary - my applicant status page is blank and they never gave me word that they received my AMCAS, although it was verified on July 21st and UCLA PRIME gave me such an e-mail on July 22nd.

What's a little disconcerting is that friends of mine who got verified after me already have received a UCLA secondary.....what's up with that?

They've got some good food. Tostada Mondays are what it's all about. 😀

I hear you...very disappointed that others who were verified after me have gotten secondaries. What the hell, UCLA?? UCLA is about to get on my **** list and I literally have an actual **** list that I got from Urban Outfitters. 😛 God, I'm a dork, maybe this is why I'm still waiting on a secondary.

Same here. I think it's weird I never got that acknowledgment email...I go here too 🙁 Sad. I am applying MD/MPH...do you think that plays a factor? Or is it just my crappy app...

I feel the same! I was verified a couple of weeks ago and no secondary yet. Do you think that the people who got the secondaries after the first batch were automatic people with either really high GPA or really high MCAT? I haven't yet heard of a date after the first one where a bunch of secondaries went out together. Anyone know?

Let us know if you have received a secondary recently!!! thanks : )

Probably your crappy app, might as well give up.

Thanks you're a sweetheart 🙄

honestly, I just poked fun at you because I am sick of the lack of confidence I see around these forums. I guess you happened to be the straw that broke my back. My apologies if you were actually offended.

hi guys, do you reckon that the hardship essay is for people who had extreme situations growing up... like they were homeless or something? it's okay if it's left blank, right?? 😀

i actually wrote stuff and checked the box. I hope the adcom don't laugh at me..

I wrote about having to change major from engineering to biology so that I could graduate in 3 yrs, due to a personal situation that I won't elaborate on SDN. and then I went on to say that the situation was resolved and I'm on back on 4 yrs, but I was glad I took the precaution etc.

I did not use it to blame my 3.0 soph GPA, so hopefully adcoms will be understanding

Not to sound overly confident, but I actually have a lot of confidence in my AMCAS primary and other schools' secondary applications, considering how much effort and thought I put into my essays, stats, and reasons for being a physician.

So I'm pretty hopeful about receiving a UCLA secondary (as I've received one from all the other UCs and non-CA schools that screen before giving a secondary). Ahaha, I'm just wondering why it's taking so freaking long, heh.

Who knows - maybe I got screened out. That's fine, considering how unpredictable this application process is.

Cheers!

Same here...I'm getting more depressed as each day goes by and I don't see that email for the secondary in my inbox. It doesn't seem like they've sent another large batch of secondaries so I guess that's some consolation. Just give me a freakin' secondary already.

Really? I wrote about how my parents were addicted to cocaine, and too high out of their minds to raise a family or make any money. Also how my sister died of cancer. I guess people think different things about that hardship box.

That's the right attitude to have! Whether it's UCLA or not, I'm sure you'll get in somewhere awesome. ^_^

Thanks spidermann! I wish you the best of luck, too! Everyone else too, for that matter.

I have a theory, not sure about it though. So I noticed that many people with lower scores than me that turned in their primary after me have already received the UCLA secondary, except none of them (at least that I have seen, maybe I am wrong) went to UCLA for undergrad. I wonder if there is a different sub-committee for UCLA students (or a "UCLA + similar schools" ) and since there are so many UCLA applicants that the sub-committee is really backed up? My friend, who also has good scores but has not yet received a secondary called today and he was told they haven't even got to screening his application yet, even though he was verified in late July, he is from UCLA. This theory only holds for people who don't have really high scores who get the automatic secondary though.

I am not sure how it works, I thought this was a possibility for an explanation of why it is taking so long for some of us. Anyone else have any idea?

I got to USC and they are not super friendly to USC undergrads. I think some schools just get overwhelmed by applicants from their undergrad institution sometimes but have limited spots for them.

Also, not a whole lot seems to make sense in this process. I got a secondary from UCLA, UCSD and UC Davis but NOT UC Irvine (still hoping though). I know that the UCs talk to each other a bit for undergrad selections (this one can get accepted to Berkeley but will get rejected from LA) so maybe its the same for med school?

I was verified early July and I got their secondary on July 29 and I'm from UCLA.. I suppose it usually takes about a month no matter when you turn in your primary =/

Just got the secondary right now - my AMCAS was verified on July 21st, I'm not from UCLA, I'm a CA resident - maybe the next batch of secondaries is starting to come out for UCLA.

Cheers and good luck!

I also just got the secondary, UCLA student, verified early (I thought I was rejected already!!). There are quite a few UCLA undergrad students in the Geffen Class every year so I doubt that they discriminate against them...although I'm not sure if they favor them. Who knows...but from what I've gathered, UCLA undergrad is well represented in the SOM Class

Also, I got the email and nothing showed up on my status page so I called the admissions office and she goes "oh, you're applying combined degree?" And then she was able to fix it. So....she didn't say it outright, but it sounds like there might be some issues with the online page for dual degree.

Just FYI. It's hot in LA today

yep, 25% UCLA undergrad at times

Also got it today, I think today was the second batch. My app was verified after the first batch was sent out, probably this was the case for most people who got it today?

I also just received the secondary today (so many questions!) and my AMCAS was received on Aug 27 so they had a pretty quick turnaround. Are they as selective as the other UC's in the number of secondaries they give out?

I just sent in 6 LORs - the Adcomm person I talked to said they really don't mind if you send one or two extras.

I probably should have gotten her name and wrote down when I talked to her and everything, but eh - I sent all of them off anyways.

I did the same thing with UCSF, but at least with UCSF I was able to include the e-mail saying I could do so in the secondary packet I mailed them.

Maybe you can call them. I also have heard of people saying schools will allow you to send more than 5 if they come all together in one packet.

For those of us sending only 5, how many of what type of letter is everyone sending to UCLA?

This is not true. There is not a special sub-committee for UCLA students. The people who do the screening consider applications holistically, which might explain why some people with lower stats are getting secondaries already.
