who came up with this recruiting batch term? Is this from anyone official?

Dam n, shouldn't acceptances in the recruiting batch come with big healthy scholarships?

:xf: Maybe that comes later

I don't think UCLA gives any merit aid.

has anyone who has been accepted fill out that CBC thing?

I haven't received anything about it from UCLA - I already did it a couple months ago for UCSD, so I'm assuming UCLA also has access to it.

Anyways, I filled it out.

How can UCLA not have preference for instate residents, esp when there are so many qualified instate applicants? I thought all state schools have to have a preference for instate because of taxpayer revenue source and etc.

Public schools have a quota they need to fill with instate students. Other than that they can do whatever

I think UCLA does have a preference for in state applicants. If you look at the MSAR, last year they only let in 21 out of staters, which makes it nearly impossible for an out of stater to get in.

So by that logic then, UCLA has to have preference for instate and discriminate against nonCA applicants? Yet on their site, they say that they dont discriminate on basis of state. Btw Lukkie, congrats on Harvard. What do you think helped you there?

do you guys know of any non minorities that have gotten into UCLA with a 32 MCAT score and around a 3.8 or better GPA?

I just want to know if it's possible to get in with moderately good ECs and those numbers.

thanks

Umm, you know he's joking right? Harvard hasn't released decisions yet. The sarcasm, if present, is not very clear.

A Filipino(Im not sure if they are ORMs or URMs) friend of mine got into UCLA Drew w/3.6 and 31. He had no research experience, but had extensive experience working with underserved. I think its very possible to get in w/your stats, you just have to be able to meet either one or both of their missions(research and underserved).

Thx for heads up. Sarcasm when done online is very hard to pick up on.

Congrats on your acceptances this year and thanks for the advice.

I also interviewed early December 🙂 I called and was told my app was still in committee. Not sure what that means, but it sounds like they haven't finished reviewing it.

I don't know if anyone interviewing in December or January has received an acceptance?

I interviewed on Jan 5th and was sent an acceptance on Jan 20th. I believe the committees meet in the middle of the month and send out acceptances and rejections, so if you haven't heard anything by the end of each month you are likely still under review.

Does anyone know if UCLA has sent out post-interview rejections? If committees do send out acceptances/rejections together, then someone should be rejected by now....right?

I know of post-secondary/pre-interview rejections, but haven't heard of any post-interview rejections.

ucla does have post-interview rejections, they have

acceptance
WL
hold
rejection

Just thought you should know that it *is* possible. It doesn't seem that there some kind of magical formula 🙂

fabulous choices dsma, which school are you leaning towards??
And many congratulations!!🙂🙂

UCLA is the only UC medical school that explicitly doesn't have a preference for state of residency. The reason fewer non-Californians comprise the class is because they tend to want to stay closer to home.

Also, if I remember correctly, the MSAR doesn't provide information about the make up of students accepted. MSAR data is about students that matriculated, because there is no way that out of thousands of applicants only 21 out of state students were admitted.

so I wonder when the next batch or next subcommittee batch will come out. In the past three years according to sdn, the first main batch came out:

2006 - 2/23
2007 - 2/23
2008 - 2/15

hi all... i just received an interview invite but i was so excited about scheduling the interview i sort of glazed over the rest of the letter, and realized that once i submitted my preferred dates, i can't get back to that letter about the transcripts and the picture. can we just bring official transcripts with us to the interview, or do these items have to be mailed to their admissions office? thanks!

I had mine mailed. Good luck on the interview!

Uhh, what is this about? I must have glazed over ALL of it. Can someone fill me in please?
No need to bother until you get accepted, but they request them when they offer you an interview. I called the office to get this confirmed.

Hey regarding the picture UCLA requests for the interview, are we just supposed to bring one in, or do they want us to mail it to them like the transcripts? Thanks in advance! =)

I believe you can do either. I brought mine in when I interviewed and gave it to the folks in the office.

I've already been accepted and sent them my transcripts, but I didn't receive anything that said to send in a picture. Do I even need to worry about it at this point?😕

seriously do not remember anything about a picture?

I actually don't think I ever sent a picture either 😕

I called them pre-interview to ask this question. The reply was that bringing it to the interview is fine, but they ideally they would like to get it before the interview so they know who you are when you come in (or something like that). I just ended up bringing it to the interview

what address do we mail our transcripts to after we're accepted? i cant find my letter anywhere and i figure SDN can tell me faster than google can. anyone?

I'm going to assume it's the same address I sent my picture to...don't trust me completely on this though as I haven't been accepted and am just guessing:

Office of Admissions
David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA
P.O.Box 957035
12-105 Center for the Health Sciences
Los Angeles, California 90095-7035
(310) 825-6081

So shemarty, of the schools you've been accepted to, which one are you leaning towards the most?

Thanks! Can anyone else confirm that it's just this same address?

So far I'm leaning towards UCSF/UCLA. I'm from the Bay Area so UCSF is closer to home, but that shouldn't be reason in and of itself to go there over UCLA. I'm going to go to both 2nd look weekends to compare.

I'm also waiting on financial aid info from Michigan and WashU. I'm not totally sure if a scholarship would change my mind and convince me to leave CA. Meanwhile, I'm still waiting on a few more decisions from non-rolling schools in March, so I'm definitely not 100% sure yet.

Yep, that's the address - I sent my transcripts there and they're now "received" on the status page.

Pick UCLA! 🙂

Do they want transcripts from every school we ever attended or just transcripts for fall grades?

Well, I called UCLA and they said that I didn't have to send the photo, since i'm already accepted. So, that should be the same for other accepted students.

since im not accepted should i send a photo? i already interviewed though.

Probably - most schools use the photo to jog the interviewer's memory when discussing the applicant.

There's a second look?

There's a second look?

i would guess ucla's second look weekend is just all the rejected ucla applicants waiting there to slap you in the face.

something like that.

ucla's second look is april 25 but I have no idea what is planned

This thread is getting no action compared to last years thread at the same time! Last year, during February, the anticipation was building for the month of the first main batch of acceptances. I think they were going through a page of posts per day 😉 Where is everyone? Anyway, hopefully we will hear something soon.

Last year the first acceptances went out in Feb! This year there were 2 little batches in Dec and Jan, so the excitement was diluted.

I hope more of you get good news soon!!

Seriously... in fact I was told by the british dude that the LATEST day on which I would hear a decision would be Feb 5 (today), but I am not getting my hopes up. I assume my decision won't be out for several weeks despite interviewing in early november. What are these committees doing? Sipping tea and discussing politics? How long does it take to get some answers here. ****, even a rejection would be better than no decision. I just want some closure here.

so we are supposed to hear by today? somehow i doubt it. i also interviewed the first week of November, and I can't believe I haven't heard back from them!

This is what I was told recently by the UCLA office: The AdComs meet at the beginning of every month to review applications and applicants that have been reviewed will be notified of their status by the middle of that month. Thus, I was told that I shouldn’t expect to hear anything till mid Feb or mid March.
