So I went to the admissions office and they said that they have approximately 200 people on the waitlist and UPTO 50% get off the waitlist, but it is different every year. There is a second review done after May 15th, and then the additional offers are called up...

wow you mean they already have 200 people on the waitlist this early?
No they end up with 200 on the waitlist... If I am not mistaken, didn't someone say we have 100 or 125 so far previously in the thread?
Oh and it is not "early"... they have been interviewing for 6 months already...
Thanks for that info monkeyman. So you and I both got the confirmation that waitlist acceptances will happen in May. That much we know for sure. I was told about 25 people off the list, and you were told up to 100 people! That's a huge difference. It doesn't really matter I guess. Regardless, our odds are worse now than just after we interviewed. I wouldn't count on that 50% of 200. Seems really unlikey considering the matriculation rate is always so high. Lets just assume the worse, 25 off of 200 (12.5%), and hope for the best! Maybe people will withdraw from the list too🙂

despite the recent flury of decisions......the UCLA admissions process for the rest of us post-interview is not "finished." It sort of seems like that was the implied opinion recently in this thread...

For those of us on the HOLD list (and I love how they had to capitalize it in the letter so that it was the only glaring thing you could see), a regular waitlist would be great.
Anyone else feeling rather insulted by the whole thing?
My day was coupled with an acceptance call from Vanderbilt and a call from the Dean of Diversity, no doubt trying to convince me to come to Vandy. I couldn't bear to call him back... Too heartbroken.
You are joking right? Up to 50%? How about a real number UCLA, like 3-10% on average except in 1918 when everyone in the incoming class died of the flu pandemic, then it was 50%.
They just love bull****ting us.

i got an interview invite from UCLA today. very nice gesture...but it is FEB 20 and i COMPLETED my last interview more than two months ago!!!
just thought i would post this in case anyone is still awaiting an interview. i was complete at UCLA on 8/19. i would have attended the interview if they had invited me earlier...but i was already accepted at UCSF, my first choice, so i will decline this interview.

Julia, you are so right. UCLA does seem to do a really bad job with matching people up for interviews.
And so much for there being acceptances in this batch. I still haven't received my letter yet as I'm on the east coast. But boy is UCLA full of lies.

I dunno....I thought I had a great interview at UCLA...we had a lot in common to talk about...at least I thought so. Granted, I haven't been accepted and we didn't really go into anything medically related...but we had a great hour and a half conversation about sports and photography and things like that.
I also had a "crusty old" neurologist - I wonder if it was the same person. I felt like he was more focused on scribbling down notes than listening to what I had to say.
Oh well.
Julia, you got Stanford. I was totally heartbroken over Stanford, but it's been a couple weeks and I have since recovered a bit. *sigh*
Does anyone know when we get the transition scholarship - is it all at the beginning of first year?

This is brutal. Does anybody know how big a role the interview plays at UCLA in terms of final decisions? I am interviewing at UCLA in February.
I can't say for sure, but I think the interview plays a huge role on whether you get accepted or not. My interview at UCLA was the best I had, and I got accepted like a week later. But its really hard to say because I don't know how other peoples interviews went. Good luck.
I talked to an M3 student who is in the admission committee at UCLA and she said that the interview is just a formality. It is intended to make sure that you are who you say on the paper and not someone who "sugar coat" their application or without adequate communication skill.
Her explanation seems a bit disheartening since I had a great interview, yet still got waitlisted. Maybe it's because of my low grade and average MCAT.

I had my worst interview at UCLA and subsequently got waitlisted, so I am not sure how much you can put into this argument...
ucla was a bad interview for me too. i was waitlisted. however, i could just be really bad judge of interview.

I thought I had pretty good faculty and student interviews at ucla. Both seemed to act like I'd be attending there this fall. And I've definitely had worse interviews at schools I was accepted to. But subsequently, I was put on hold. I don't really understand it. I suppose it will remain a great mystery for all of us.

I highly doubt that anyone from the hold list will be accepted. The people who accept and pursue the waitlist positions are competing with each other for precious few spots, it is unlikely that all the WL people that want spots will get one and subsequently defer to the hold list. Id give it up if I were you but its ultimately your choice to keep the hopeless hope alive or not.
Well... 40% full could mean that people who have been accepted have already filled up almost 1/2 of the spots they have available for their incoming class and the rest are waiting for May 15th deadline... i doubt they have only handed out 40% of their acceptances..

You see, the most unfair thing about UCLA's interview process is that fact that different interviewers carry different weight on the sub-committees. If you happen to be graced with the chair of the sub-committee you're placed in, congratulations on your acceptance to UCLA. If on the other hand, you are placed with someone who has no clout, your paper app better be outstanding and pushing a lizzy score of 77.
The hold list is a euphemism for "you have no chance at getting in, but we don't want to burn any bridges yet, so in the unlikely event that everyone gets in off the waitlist, we'll call you."
