The 2008 DAT frequency tables have as yet to be released. However, the ADA has recently released the basic information regarding the 2008 DAT. As some of you may recall, the number of first time takers decreased slightly in 2007. The total number of applicants taking the DAT has been increasing since 2004 reflecting an increase in the number of repeaters. Last year the number bounced slightly higher than that in 2006. The mean dat scores for AA, SNS, and PA appear to be holding as one might expect from a standardized test. It might be noteworthy that the number of females taking the DAT has increased steadily since 2004 while that of males has decreased. The numbers are now dead even. The information was obtained from the ADA website.

questions Doc;
how about people took exam for second and third time?
are these stats for total test takers or just first time takers?
(assume the avrage would be higher for total test takers)

The first line is for those who took the test for the first time. The second set of scores (2nd line) is for all of the applicants who took the test. The mean scores for the re takers is usually lower.

So I guess this confirms that the 2008 DAT scores are not significantly elevated compared to previous years, as was rumored by many.

Nonetheless, admissions is more competitive than before (compared to the 90s) because there are more applicants. So even though the average is the same, there are more high scorers for limited positions in Dental Schools.

wow... the AA average is actually only a 17.5? I've always thought the average AA was like a 19...

SDN tends to warp your perception. It's only a little bubble of extremely motivated and talented students and only represents a small fraction of the applicant pool.

So, it seems like a small rise but not as great as the one that happened in 2006.
