This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
hahaha... Congrats! And funny story.

When were you complete there? When they called, did the correct caller ID show up or was it blocked? I received two calls from an 'Unknown' number yesterday morning that I couldn't answer because I was in meetings, and of course I'm nervous it was an admissions office calling about an interview. But I'm sure it was really just some kinda solicitor. What time did they call you?

Thanks! I had called them on 8/9 and confirmed I was complete. When they called on Tuesday, the number appeared as 708-216-9000. I got the call at 8:40am CST. Pretty early if you ask me!

Wow! Congrats everyone on your secondaries and interview invites!😀

I've been in hiding working on/ waiting for secondaries- I got my last one today (UCSF= my dream school😍)!

Good luck to all of you with apps/ secondaries/ MCATs/ interviews!!!!

:luck::luck::luck:

Aargh.

Note to self: get unscreened secondaries done BEFORE screened rejections start coming.

Schools applied to: 34
Secondaries offered: 18
....including screened secondaries offered: 2
Bulk implied OOS/GPA rejections: 1
Screened rejections: 2

...and secondaries completed: 2. All those questions are really intimidating. Must be PTSD from AMCAS/TMDSAS/MCAT.

Note to self: get on the BALL.

Focus focus focus!

Just got an e-mail from PSU, saw "Student Admissions" in the sender column, got excited, and then saw that it was just a "Status Complete" message and that I'll be under review at some point.

Oh, they tease...

I have received pretty much every DO secondary I requested now but I'm going to wait to complete them until after my DMU and CCOM inerviews.

Still waiting until post-MCAT for the rest of the MD secondaries to come, specifically SIU.

I got a preinterview rejection letter faster than I could say "rejection". At least it was quick and painless.
What's that I see? A C-note flapping in the wind.

Goodbye C-note! Goodbye BU!

I'm waiting for interview invites/rejections and writing the first draft of a manuscript based on one of my research studies (the get it all on paper before even thinking about revising stage of writing) - I had forgotten how much a hate describing statistical analysis.

Additionally, Med Calc is not giving me T and P value for my weighted kappa statistics (not that huge of a deal, considering that the highest kappa for the data is 0.226 - which is what was expected (little to no correlation between clinicians' and patients' assessment of patient anxiety and depression)), but it is frustrating.

One manuscript down, two to go (although I'm bottlenecked by a lack of writing by some of my pre-meds on one of them).

And this just in...

I got an invite to UVM yesterday! They scheduled me for an interview rather quickly (9/25) so I am trying to figure out the best way to get there. I want to bring the wife up, but she is working the night before in New Jersey until 9pm, but she might be able to get done earlier. I will figure it all out soon enough, but I am really excited! I have never been to Vermont before so that is a nice bonus.

Woo woo! WTG for us non-trads!

Got a couple more secondaries yesterday that I'll fill out next week - Wisconsin and KCUMB.

MCAT is tomorrow - probably will review formulas today but that's about it. So not stressing about it! Thanks for the well-wished guys!

Congrats - I've got an Oct interview there. From the other applicants I've seen get interviews to UVM on SDN, it seems like they really appreciate older/non-trad applicants. 👍

Their distribution of interview dates really boggles my mind though. I got the invite on 8/13 for a mid-Oct interview. I'm jealous you'll be there for prime "foliage season," but getting a room and a decent rate might be rough. The hotel (I think UVM refers to it as a Wyndham, but it's a Hilton now or something) right near the med school gives a great UVM rate: around $80. I decided to make a mini-vacation of it though (with my dog - don't laugh), and am staying the first two nights at a B&B on a farm about a half an hour east of Burlington, and then renting a two bedroom condo in South Burlington (1.5 miles from UVM) from a guy off craigslist for the other two nights ($100/night). If for some reason you'd like his info, drop me a PM. Please post back (or drop me a PM) and let me know how your interview goes. Good luck! :luck:

Yeah, the distribution of interviews is really weird. Who knows why????

I will keep you certainly updated with how it goes along with any pointers I'll have from the mistakes I'm sure that I'll make 🙂 I can't believe that us "old" folk are getting invites!!!

Yeah, Dancin's got a pretty impressive gig going there (congrats!). And you should check out Jolie South! She mostly posts in pre-allo, but she's 26 yrs old so she's definitely a non-trad, and she's got NINE invites and climbing (and already withdrew from about 8 schools since she's so popular)! I keep trying to catch up, but then she bounds ahead! Anyway, I jumped from 6 to 8 invites today (+UIC & Drexel) - what a day! 😀 I like to think that I have 8 invites because I have an 8 on the PS section of my MCAT. Personally, I think that's how this system should work. We should each get at least as many interviews as our lowest MCAT section score.

Anyway, zipmedic, the originator of this very thread, has bashfully not posted here recently, but he's got us all beat with his UMich invite! Go zip! Who says non-trads can't hold their own with the young 'uns?

And for those of you lurking, wondering if you're too old....YOU'RE NOT!

HAHAHA thanks L shapely.... thanks phoenix!! congrats to you two as well, and zip medic!!... I think 7 helps but it only takes one good interview and one acceptance!!

yes but can my interview list match my verbal score instead...its the highest one🙂 okay my bf tell me to stop being greedy!

i just don't get this process...there are schools that I thought... how can they not love me? I grew up down the street from them i.e. downstate, and i have not received any love🙁 ...and then there are others like Wake Forest who I thought ... I don't have a chance in **** .... and boom an interview:laugh:...what a humbling and exciting experience this is!

oh well... let the games begin.... six interviews are from 9/13- 10/16...

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!

and nope we are not too old at all... I will be 27 in fall 2008! 27,37, or 47...age brings experience...

Mel🙂

Congrats everyone!!!! I am EDP, so it's only the one interview for me. At least I know where to focus m energy. The waiting after the interview will be the death of me.

UVM is freaking beautiful. If you like the winter like I do you will probably never want to leave.

Just thought I would post an update on my status.
Post-bac is going well, nothing but straight A's.
Won't be hearing about linkage acceptance (conditional to Drexel to matric in fall '08) until like March or April.
Won't be taking my MCATs until early May. (Would need a 27O I believe to keep the conditional acceptance if I get it)

It is very odd not being in the same boat as you folks. On one hand I am jealous that so much is happening for you, I am sitting here just studying and being bored. On the other hand though I am really happy that I don't have to deal with all these secondaries and essays and other stuff at the moment.

If the linkage doesn't work it'll be back to the regular applicant pool for matric in fall of 2009 (hopefully not 😀).

Congrats on the conditional linkage. That is really the best way to go by far. Are you a Penn postbac? Drexel?

I went to check out Drexel a couple of months ago and it is really nice, I was really quite impressed. I like the Queens Lane location. You get the best of living in a city, but you avoid the worst because you are just far enough from the most urban areas. If you are straight A's now, I doubt you have anything to worry about. Good luck!

...full of happiness. Well, a secondary app invite, anyway. That's 3 screened secondaries, and I really thought I wouldn't get any. Yay!

Just got the LECOM interview invite! They actually send letters rather than e-mail - I saw a thick envelope from them in the mail and was pretty curious - I almost missed the invite itself, as the letter blended in with the envelope and there was a big plain white information packet.

Alright! At the rate that the non-trads on this boards are getting interviews this cycle, I predict that the average age of a med students for the class of 2012 will be bumped up a couple of years!

(I've said it before and i'll say it again....)

....Amen, my non-trad family, Amen.

Just got back from the Georgetown interview. It went very well. Veni vidi vici. 🙂

Of course, I came back to a rejection letter from PSU, but hey, it happens. 😉

Thanks! I had called them on 8/9 and confirmed I was complete. When they called on Tuesday, the number appeared as 708-216-9000. I got the call at 8:40am CST. Pretty early if you ask me!

I was calling you, I was just wondering who to take this week..

The Bears or the Chiefs with the Points..

Let me know 🙂

Oh and for whoever in the thread was looking out for the PSU app... shoot me an email..... I'm an Alum and was formerly admitted to the program when it was the accelerated through Jefferson, just changed my major to pursue my Kerouac Oats <g>... Nah I'd be interested in maybe considering taking a look at the good ole alma mater but frankly I don't think I want to go that far west.... I'd rather stay as close to the shore as possible.... They should have a school like on a cruise ship with lectures on the beach..

Oh yeah that's right Miami has a campus now in Boca SO THEY DO.> SWEEEEEEEEEET.

LOL .. 26 too OLD?

At 26, I still hadn't decided who I liked better Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader..

Wait I still haven't decided.. Strike that from the record your honor I swear I didn't say that..

WHO SAID that ? Do you hear that ? Good it's just me in here.

I think <g>

LOL have a great year and wish you all the best ...

Heh. I never said that 26 was too old. I'll be 33 in a few weeks, and I don't feel old at all. And I don't think that 44 would be too old either. I was just reaching out to those that are older than the average age for med school and wondering if they're too old, or if they've got what it takes. Isn't it 23 or 24 these days? I was originally reading this forum two years ago wondering if I was too old to start over and pursue medicine. This forum gave me a lot of hope and confidence that if they could do it, I could do it too.

And good luck with your transition. Hopefully you'll be posting here soon too....

:luck::luck::luck:Good luck tomorrow Phoenix!

Show em the ole Non-trad pride!

Thanks! I'll really need it for that first interview. Hopefully it will go smoothly!

On another note, I really can't believe I'm about to go for a med school interview! I swear, it feels like just yesterday that I was wondering if I could even do this at all: break the news to my family, sell my impractical condo & vehicle, quit my job, do well in post-bac classes, take the MCAT without having a heart attack, etc. Where did those two years go? Anyone else feel like they can't possible be this close already?

Feeling the exact same way, Phoenix. (Minus selling the house and the car... and I'm still working... but you know.. all the rest of it. 😀 )

My progress as of today:

1. Dropped the suits off at the seamstress to be tailored to fit perfectly. (Adorable old Italian lady who runs a shop from a room off the back of her house in the city. What a cutie.)
2. Found a PHENOMENALLY cute pair of heels to go with the navy suit. 😍 Bonus: They're comfortable, too! Double bonus: They only cost $36 including tax! :wow:

This is exactly how I feel. About a 1.5 years ago, I quit my job, I moved half way across the country and did a postbac. I am applying now. So far only 1 interview but I feel my 7 on VR is going to kill my chances.

Best of luck to you Phoenix. From the number of interviews you've gotten so far, I think will do great this cycle.

Congrats on the secondaries and interviews everyone!!!

Just got back from a week of vacation, and got my first interview at UMich- so excited🙂

Good luck everyone!

Just got first interview invite at Mt. Sinai. They scheduled it during the middle of my finals. Do you think it's okay to try and reschedule my interview? If there's any problem/negative implications in doing so, I'd rather suck it up and try to work something out with my professors.

I'm sure they'll let you reschedule, just call and ask. They realize school and exams come first.
